Francis "Ben" Lee, of Grant, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at his home. Francis was born October 9, 1928, in Madrid, Nebraska, to Rue and Della (Costin) Lee. He attended school in Madrid prior to Curtis Agricultural College. On January 21, 1950, Francis married Roberta Rohrbacker, and their union was blessed with 8 children. The couple made their home and farmed and ranched in the Madrid, Nebraska area, where they raised with family. In 1996, the couple moved to Grant, Nebraska. Francis was both sharp and sociable. He never forgot a name and often held onto the impressionable details about the people he interacted with. Farming was a vocation to him, and he also had a deep love for animals, especially his cats. Long after, he started transitioning away from the day-to-day aspects of farming, Francis would pay daily visits to the farm to work in his garden, check on his animals, and would read many books and the Bible. He had a great love for his grandchildren and always appreciated seeing them when they came to visit. Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; son, Thomas; granddaughter, Darcy Lee; brother, Robert Lee; sisters, Katherine Coleman, Mary Nutt, and Dorothy Otten. Richard 'Rick' Ryan,&nbsp;Jr., of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at home on April 27, 2021, at the age of 71.

Rick was born July 7, 1949, in North Platte where he grew up. He was raised by his grandparents, Harold and Ellen Ryan and his father, Richard, and mother, Margaret Ryan. He attended St. Patrick's High School, and later earned his GED. In 1967 Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an infantryman with the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division. During his service in Vietnam, Rick received a Purple Heart.

Following his discharge in '69, Rick returned home and went to work for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office then Union Pacific Railroad. In 1974 Rick began his career with law enforcement when he joined the North Platte Police Department. He worked until retiring in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant and he enjoyed being a policeman.

Rick married Mary Medrano in 1971. They had four children and later divorced. In May 1999 Rick wed Cynthia Wonch and they made their home together in North Platte.

Rick was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree in Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and even rode to New York in 1998. He also enjoyed riding his horse (when they lived out south of town), and having coffee with his buddies. Rick loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and his service dog, Yuma. Kids always had a special place in his heart and to help those in need, he started the Santa Cop program in 1985 and this legacy continues today.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dick, and grandparents, Harold and Ellen Ryan; brothers, Tim and Bill Ryan; daughter-in-law, Michelle Ryan; and grandsons, Myles Ray Hill and Alexander Weir.

Richard 'Rick' Ryan, Jr. (1949-2021)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Dale William Feddersen, age 80, of Sumner, NE passed away April 26, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. He passed in his home, surrounded by all five of his children and grandchildren. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dale was born March 2, 1941 at Lexington, NE to William and Anna (Knoop) Feddersen. His family lived east of Lexington on 13th Street until he was 4 then they moved to a farm close to Cozad, NE. In 1948 they moved to the farm at Lomax between Oconto and Eddyville in Nebraska. He attended grade school at the Lomax District 65 country school through 8th grade. He attended high school at Oconto graduating in 1958. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1955 Dale was baptized &amp; became a member of the Oconto Methodist Church. He played baseball as a youngster and played football and basketball during high school. He joined his father in farming after graduation and took over the farm at age of 19 when his Dad retired. In 1963 at the age of 22 he was drafted into the army and was sent to Germany for 18 months. He came back to the farm after he was discharged in 1965. On June 16, 1968 he married Jean Kleeb. Dale’s parents then moved to Oconto &amp; their married life began on the farm. Five kids were born to this union: Lanny, Lisa, Lori, Lana, &amp; Lanette. He was always involved in the kids lives, attending all their activities including coaching softball for 20 years. In 1988 he had a farm sale and then started working for neighbors until 1995 when they moved to Miller, NE for a short time. Then he worked for Wal-Mart. After a short time of living in the Merna, Nebraska area they moved to Sumner where they continued to live for 22 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He retired in 2003 &amp; did yard work for people in town. He had several health problems shortly after retirement but continued to be active in the community. Highlights of his day were having coffee at Tub’s Pub and playing cards with his friends. He loved sporting activities, animals, hunting, &amp; fishing. After the grandchildren started playing sports, he was their number 1 fan. He followed their teams from Pleasanton, Tarkio, Missouri, as well as Sumner. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Jean of 52 years; children Lanny Feddersen of Sumner, NE, Lisa (Mike) Fisher of Pleasanton, NE, Lori (Ed) Nichols of Sumner, NE, Lana (Tim) Schroeder of Sumner, NE, and Lanette (Clint) Hogue of Tarkio, MO; ten grandchildren Dalton &amp; Bradi Nichols (Jacob Stieb), Meghan &amp; Chelsea Fisher, Hunter, MiKayla, &amp; Colt Schroeder, and Stormy &amp; Rainy Nordhausen, &amp; Linley Hogue; step grandchildren Danny Vapenik &amp; Dustin Nordhausen. Dale William Feddersen  (1941-2021)

Juanita Monzon Jones, age 96, of McCook, NE passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.

Juanita was born September 9, 1924 in McCook to parents Jesus and Francisca Melendez Monzon.&nbsp; She was one of nine children.&nbsp; Juanita grew up in McCook where she attended school and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Juanita married Victor Jones in Denver, CO. Juanita worked in the restaurant industry all of her adult life.&nbsp; Together with Victor, the couple owned a restaurant in Cheyenne, WY where they made their home.&nbsp; In her free time, Juanita enjoyed crocheting.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Teresa Monzon, Louisa Taylor, Mary Ostendorf, Angel, Pete and Joseph Monzon and an infant brother; as well as two nieces, two nephews and a great nephew.

Those left to celebrate her life include one brother, Victor (Mary Ellen) Monzon of McCook, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Malcolm Allen Koehler  (2020-2021)

Frederick M. Hummer passed away peacefully in Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 18, 2021. He was born in Hastings, Nebraska on January 31, 1938, to Merle S. Hummer and Evelyn O. (Nunamaker) Hummer. He spent his early childhood in Hastings. At age 10, Fred and his mother moved to McCook, Nebraska. He attended McCook Public Schools graduating from McCook High School in 1956. Fred earned an associate degree in science from McCook Jr. College and furthered his education at Colorado State University, earning a BS in Animal Sciences in 1961.

Fred worked in the beef packing industry for 20 years. He was employed with Iowa Beef Processors (IBP) in West Point, NE, Amarillo, TX, and Sioux City, IA. After leaving IBP, he co-owned a cattle feedlot in Mead, NE. After retiring, Fred and Judy moved to Lincoln, NE. &nbsp;

Fred married Marilyn Meyers and was blessed with three children, Scott (Margo), Julie (Carl) Bellmyer, and David. He later married Judy (Bishop) Baumfalk. To this union, two children were born – Amy (Steve) Renne and Eric (Bev) Hummer and one stepson, Kent (Sherrill) Baumfalk.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy; his children; grandchildren Marnie Bellmyer, Zachary and Andrew Hummer, Kaitlyn and Derek Baumfalk, Brian (Kaila), Jeremiah, and Jason Renne, Madysen, and Grant Hummer. He is also survived by stepsister, Jackie Coxson; cousin, Alvern Ziegler and family; and life-long friend, Gary (Linda) Romine; brothers-in-law John and Jack Bishop; and sister-in-law Janet Lytle; and nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Fred was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Cotner No. 297, A.F. &amp; A.M. and a Noble of Sesostris Shrine in Lincoln, NE. He was a Freemason for over 30 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Colorado State University Alumni Association.

He played football for McCook Jr. College. Fred loved WWII history, loved reading, and listening to classical music. He was a die-hard Nebraska sports fan and loved the Boston Red Sox. &nbsp;He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities.

Fred was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by all. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; Arrangements have been made by Herrmann-Jones Funeral Home in McCook.

Richard D. Wolfe  (1934-2021)

Hazel Madora McDonald, age 99, of Ogallala, NE, formerly of Arthur, NE, went to be with her Lord and Savior and loved ones on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala with her loving family by her side.

Hazel was born on March 21, 1922, at Bonesteel, South Dakota to Charles Parker and Mary Mirilla (Ingram) Jackson.&nbsp; Mary passed away when Hazel was five and the family moved to Nebraska living in and around the Lewellen, Oshkosh and Lemoyne areas until Hazel moved to Ogallala when she was 16 years old.

Hazel graduated from the Ogallala High School in 1940.&nbsp; She married Emery Cooney and one son Edward Lee Cooney was born to this union.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; She married Clyde McDonald of Arthur in Las Vegas, NV on March 2, 1948, and daughter Cathleen Ann McDonald and son Tommy Eugene McDonald was born to this union.&nbsp; Clyde and Hazel resided in Arthur where they raised their family.&nbsp; In 1960 they welcomed Hazel’s nephew Gene "Bill" Smith into their hearts and home to become part of the family.&nbsp; Hazel was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She was always cheerful but could be known to have a “Jackson Fit” if necessary. During her residency at Indian Hills Manor, she continued to bless others with her smile, sense of humor and humming as she lived out her days.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hazel handled her life with courage and faith in God overcoming whatever hardships she faced and she celebrated the good times in the same spirit.&nbsp; She would be the first to say she had a blessed life and when life gets difficult just “keep on dancing”.&nbsp; Hazel had a variety of jobs during her life, including working in the Arthur Café, cooking at the Ogallala Country Club and being a waitress at the Hill Top Inn.&nbsp; She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service working in the Arthur Post Office until her retirement in December of 1989.&nbsp;

Hazel was a lifelong member of the Arthur Baptist Church where she taught Nursery Sunday School for many years and served as a Deaconess.&nbsp; She was also a member and active in the American Legion Auxiliary Post 207, served on the Arthur Village Board of Trustees and the Arthur County School Board of Education. Hazel loved music and enjoyed dancing as long as she could.&nbsp; She enjoyed refinishing furniture and was affectionately known as the “stripper”, she also enjoyed attending auctions and buying antiques and spending time with friends and family.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter, Cathleen Sibal; son Tom (Heidi) McDonald; nephew Gene "Bill" Smith; daughter-in-law Karol Cooney; five grandchildren; Chad (Laura) Cooney; Melissa (Trent) McDonald-Wertz; Robbie (Kayla) McDonald; Nathan (Shawna) McDonald; Brennan (Falon) McDonald; Jeremy (Kelly) Smith and family;&nbsp;&nbsp;eight great-grandchildren; Savanah Cooney; Troy, Lily, Violet Wertz, Olivia Madora Ryschon, Trevor Ryschon, Gaige McDonald;&nbsp;three step-grandchildren; Alex, Maegyn and Ashlyn Rawlings; two great step-grandchildren; Briar and Delilah Rawlings; and several nieces and nephews and other close family members and close friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Clyde; son Ed Cooney; son-in-law Pat Sibal; grandson Shawn Cooney; and sisters Helyne Frehner, and Donna VanNewkirk.

Bonita Lynn Richards passed away April 23, 2021 at her home in Ravenna, Nebraska at the age of 58. Bonita was born November 16, 1962 at Ogallala, Nebraska to Kenneth and Inez (Jones) Richards. She was raised in Elm Creek, Nebraska and attended high school there. 

Bonita worked at Monroe Auto in Cozad, Nebraska for over 20 years before her retirement. She loved fishing, camping, bowling and attending the Sandhill Open Road Challenge. 

Bonita was preceded in death by her father; nephew, Christopher Liner; and special friend, Martin Shirley. 

Survivors include her sons, Steve Richards of Cozad, NE and Allen (Jessica) Shirley of Eustis, NE; mother, Inez Richards; grandchildren, Kaden, Mariah, Marissa, Hadlee, Miles, Lux and Vaydah; 3 sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

March 13, 1963 Jake and Helen Evans were united in marriage, to this union two children were born, Teresa Jean and Ronald Jacob. March of 1964 Jake started working for Custer Public Power District, he worked there until he retired in 2000. Jake also worked mowing substations over 25 years and built little sheds to put in the substations, so every time you go by a substation you can say “Jake built that one”.

Jake is survived by his wife Helen of Broken Bow, NE; daughter Teresa Ferguson of Lebanon, NE; sons Ron Ferguson of Watertown, MN, and Lonnie of Arizona; two grandchildren Ashley and Adam Jones; five great grandchildren Hope, Grace, Precious, Jasmine and Lawrence; three step- grandchildren; three brothers Lyle, Don, and Lawrence; two sisters Evelyn Reich and Betty Waltman; and ex son-in-law Casey (Jan) Doggett.

Stephanie S. Block, age 71, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 22, 2021 in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On April 22, 2021, the world unexpectedly lost an extraordinary wife, mother (McMamma), sister, aunt, Amma, teacher, and friend. 

Stephanie Sue (Frick) Block lived her life dedicated to love. Steph or Stevi (as she was known to those closest to her) was relied upon deeply by her family and friends-because she wanted to be, and also, she found great joy in doing it. She gave her life to service in everything she did because she knew no other way.&nbsp;

Growing up on a dairy farm in Graettinger, Iowa was a mark of pride for her, and where she first “earned her stripes.” She graduated from Graettinger High School and went on to get degrees from Iowa Lakes Community College and Mankato State College. After graduation, her first and true loves were waiting for her in Gothenburg, Nebraska. She earned her first job as a 4th grade teacher at Gothenburg Public Schools in 1971.

In the early days of her career, Steph met Doug Block, the singular love of her life. They married in 1973 and became dedicated partners in life and in love. Doug and Steph cherished their time together working on the farm, where there was little need for explanation or encouragement when Doug requested assistance with irrigating, working cattle, fixing a pivot, or virtually anything on the farm. They encouraged, supported, and cheered each other on through each of their individual and collaborative successes; and held each other tight through the hard times. Doug and Steph were the textbook definition of life partners that were a team.&nbsp;

Anyone who had “Ms. Frick” or “Mrs. Block” as their teacher will fondly remember how teaching wasn’t just a profession for her-it was a true calling. She didn’t just “teach.” She nurtured and guided her students in a way that didn’t just explain. Mrs. Block spent 38 enthusiastic years being the teacher that “showed” her students what it meant to be curious about the world, and how to be gracious and loving in it-and in her unique way, helped them find their own place and calling in it. So much so, that one of her students nominated her for the Chadwick’s of Boston “Teacher of the Year” award-and, naturally, she won. Mrs. Block herself applied for, and again won, a grant to develop a “Living History” area on a plot of land near the school. There, she built a straw bale house, helped construct a blessed native tipi, erected a working windmill, and would there teach students about Native American and early Nebraska settler history. She brought the world to her students. By the “passports” she issued them, they “traveled” throughout the school year, and she taught them words from the languages and customs of places to which students may not have the opportunity to explore.&nbsp;

But Steph also adored the time that she herself was able to travel. Her cherished daughter, Allison, with whom she shared a devoted friendship, lived abroad frequently. That permitted Steph and Doug to explore places like Turkey, Czech Republic, and Canada.&nbsp;

Steph also dedicated her love, passion, and compassion to her church: American Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Gothenburg. She joyfully employed her skills to serve as Sunday School Superintendent, and as an instructor for bible school and JAM. She adored and appreciated her church family. She particularly had the opportunity to show off her skill set as the head chef for summer bible school, because one of the ways Steph demonstrated her love was through her delicious and generous cooking.&nbsp;

Mrs. Block had a tough time accepting “retirement,” so she frequently substitute taught at Gothenburg Public Schools. When she wasn’t “retirement teaching,” she devoted her time to the things and people she valued and loved the most: her family and crafting. She cared for many littles in her circle, and her home was filled with entertainment and education to accommodate all of the small ones she loved, which were so many. But for Steph, personally, her home also had every craft gadget one could imagine-because she loved through creating and giving. Most recently, she made beautiful, unique, seasonal wreaths; and more importantly, she graciously sewed and distributed hundreds of personalized and seasonal masks, in light of the COVID pandemic.&nbsp;

Steph’s signature was care, whether it was for people or her countless animals. She inspired, motivated, assisted, counseled, encouraged, supported, and loved so many. Preceding Steph in leaving her earthly life were her parents, Marilyn (Ditsworth) Frick and Paul Frick, of Graettinger, Iowa, and her parents-in-law, Margaret (Malm) Block and Edwin Block, of Gothenburg. Her legacy will be carried on through the community and public school system she loved and served, but mostly by Doug, her husband of 47 years and their only child, Allison. She will be profoundly missed by her sister, Paulette Webb and husband Mike Webb, and their children Brooke Webb, Taylor Webb, and Jacob and Lauren Webb, and their daughter, Parker; and her sister Suzanne Williamson, and her sons Connor Williamson (Tasha Perez), Casey Williamson (Aubree Denenkamp) and his daughters Olivia, Sutton, and Addison; as well as the extended family she called her own.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, April 26, 2021, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Celebration of Life services will be held at American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, NE, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 4:00 pm with Pastors Steve Berke and Jon Mapa officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Merlin Gene 'Mert' Zoucha, Sr., age 77, of Oshkosh, Nebraska passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Time on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Scotty Ray officiating.&nbsp; Masonic Rites will be rendered by Oshkosh Lodge #286.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Oshkosh City Cemetery.

Memorials in Mert’s name can be made to the Oshkosh Masonic Lodge #286 or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Merlin Gene was born on April 13, 1943 in Lewellen, Nebraska to John and Muriel (Stickney) Zoucha.&nbsp; He attended his grade school years at School District #68 north of Oshkosh near the ranch where he was raised.&nbsp; His 4 years of high school were in Curtis, Nebraska which was then the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture (UNSA), graduating in 1961.&nbsp; He made many lifelong friends while there many of whom he is celebrating with again today.

On November 8, 1961 he and Janet Robb married in Hot Springs, South Dakota.&nbsp; They have 2 sons, Merlin Jr. of North Platte, NE and Curtis of Houston, TX.

When he and Babe closed the auto body repair shop, he went to work for the postal service part time as a clerk and later as a sub-carrier for Bill Hines.&nbsp; He was employed at Marshalltown part time as well.&nbsp; Things were tough, but he was determined to get that rural route job full time when Bill retired.&nbsp; He succeeded and 32 years later he retired from this job and still had patrons thanking him for his kindness and consideration.&nbsp; He was appreciated.&nbsp; He was proud of the fact that he never had an accident in those of years on the route.

Mert loved having sheep and raised them until age caught up to him.&nbsp; He and his brothers, John, George, and their wives went into the sheep business for a few years.&nbsp; Oh, what a great family project that was!&nbsp; He loved it.

Oh, and don’t forget if you had an old antique car laying in your ravine or pasture long forgotten he knew it was there and eventually would check it out.&nbsp; Many of those old&nbsp;HEAPS&nbsp;he got to run.&nbsp; Unbelievable!!

Merlin was a member of Oshkosh Masonic Lodge #286, Oshkosh OES #264, Shriners, and the Scottish Rites.&nbsp; He was responsible for keeping the local AA group going for many years and was a 23-year medallion holder himself.&nbsp; He helped many people through some very trying times and come to some form of peace and serenity in their lives and their families’ lives.&nbsp; He will be missed by so many.

Mert is survived by his wife of 59 years; sons, Merlin Jr. and Curtis; grandchildren, Taylor, Michael, Rhiannon, Freddi, and Hope; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lois Lipsey and Rebecca Miller; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley (Hershall) Allen, bothers, George (Donna) and John (Sherrill), and grandson, Jesse Baladez.

Bruce Alan Jensen  (1956-2021)

Lori Anne Bueno  (1960-2021)

Charity Jean Miles DeLawyer was born February 1, 1989 during a snow storm at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska to her delighted parents Craig and Joy (McCrory) Miles. She was raised on the Miles family ranch near Brownlee, Nebraska. Here she learned to love the outdoors, ranch life and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; From an early age Charity had a strong faith and a strong will. That strong will would help her stand firm in her faith all her life even when it wasn’t popular. Horseback riding, playing with animals of every kind and swirling in skirts were some of many things she so enjoyed.&nbsp; She was homeschooled from 3rd&nbsp;grade to 7th&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; While in the 3rd&nbsp;grade her Bible class teacher encouraged her class to read and note the entire New Testament, which she did.&nbsp; From then on she had an unshakeable faith and concept of God. Charity attended Thedford schools from grades 8-12.&nbsp; Playing volleyball, acting in plays, giving speeches, going on mission trips to Mexico and running cross country and track kept her very busy.&nbsp; While in 8th&nbsp;grade her classmate suggested she run the 1600 (one mile) race, mainly because nobody else wanted to.&nbsp; She ran it and loved it!&nbsp; After running several races in 8th&nbsp;grade, a track official told her God had given her the gift of running and that she should use it.&nbsp; From then on she tried to use this gift to glorify her Lord.&nbsp; She loved running cross country with the Valentine Badgers her junior and senior years, making wonderful friends.&nbsp; Her favorite races in track were the 1600 and 3200, winning state championships in both her junior and senior years.&nbsp;

She graduated valedictorian of her class and decided to go into nursing because, as she said, “I was genetically sucked into it.”&nbsp; Her aunts, mother and grandmother were all nurses.&nbsp; She was blessed to go to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where she ran cross country and both indoor and outdoor track.&nbsp; She set several GPAC conference records in track, but as Charity would say, all the awards were but rubble compared to Jesus in her life.&nbsp; She loved her wonderful teammates and classmates, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2011. Charity was blessed to be inducted into the Northwestern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

&nbsp;As a registered nurse, she came back to the same hospital she was born at to give love and tender care for her patients.&nbsp; It was there in Valentine that she dated and married the love of her life, Steven DeLawyer.&nbsp; They were married April 18, 2015 staying in Valentine until the fall of 2016 when they moved to Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp; She loved working at the Black Hills Surgical Hospital while in Rapid City and found great Christian community at Parkview Church.&nbsp; Their two sons were born in Rapid City, Samuel Ross in May 2018 and Jesse Craig in November 2019.

In March of 2020 Charity, Steven and their boys moved back to help her family expand their ranch to include a lease on the Pearson Ranch south of Valentine, Nebraska.&nbsp; Their boys absolutely love living in the country and Charity even had milking goats.&nbsp; Charity was so gifted artistically as well as in hospitality, having company for Bible studies or just a meal of her delectable food.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her family and friends, writing special notes, cooking intricate meals or giving her famous foot massages. She also loved her patients in the Oncology department at Cherry County Hospital. Charity always wanted to help others to know and grow in Jesus, sharing the gospel tenaciously especially with those easily dismissed. Valentine Berean became their new church home.&nbsp; As her friends said, “In her life she constantly pushed me closer to God, whether in teaching me something; in displaying it in her own life; or in challenging me to dive deeper in my faith”. &nbsp;“She had that extra specialness about her that would make one feel so welcome and loved, she was full of grace.”

Charity went to the arms of her loving Lord and Savior in the beautiful Sandhills that she loved on April 18th, 2021.

Charity was preceded in death by her grandparents: John McCrory, DVM, Jean Ravenscroft McCrory McGaughey and Royal McGaughey.

Left to grieve her passing are her husband, Steven, of exactly 6 years; their two sons whom she adored and treasured Samuel and Jesse; parents Craig and Joy Miles; best friend and brother Caleb; grandparents Sam and Charlotte Miles; &nbsp;parents–in-law Mark and Marilyn DeLawyer (Joice, IA); &nbsp;brother and sister in law Jacob and Kelly DeLawyer (Joice,IA); uncles and aunts Scott/Gwenna Miles (Haslet,TX); Julie/Terry Pitkin (Scottsbluff); John/Rhonda McCrory (Tonapah, AZ); Carol/Steve Moreland (Merriman); many wonderful cousins, family and friends.

Leona M. 'Onie' Greenlee  (1930-2021)

Santiago De Anda-Orozco, age 73, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 2-7 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington, NE with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.

Norm Nelson  (1941-2021)

Dorothy Kay Hawk, age 76, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021, at her son’s home in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by family.

Dorothy was born on February 13, 1945, near Isabel, South Dakota, one of twelve children to Harvey and Rose (Burkley) Hill. She was raised on a farm and attended school in South Dakota. While living in South Dakota, Dorothy met Margo Martinez and was united in marriage. Five children were blessed to this union: Tammie, Joe, Greg, John and Ed. Their marriage would later end in divorce.

Dorothy then met John “Jack” Hawk and spent several years riding with him over the road as a Truck Driver. She was united in marriage in March of 1976 to John “Jack” Hawk. They made their home in Ord, Nebraska, Wyoming, Iowa, and then settled in Texas. Dorothy also managed motels and working in Home/Health. Jack died in 1996 in Columbus, Texas, and Dorothy moved to Overton, Nebraska to be closer to family.

Dorothy and Jack played lots of Bingo in their younger years and they enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. They enjoyed camping and taking the kids out boating on the weekends. Dorothy also liked to crochet and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her children, Tammie Zediker of Overton, NE,&nbsp; Joe Martinez of Omaha, NE, Greg Martinez of Overton, NE, John (Candy) Martinez of Overton, NE, and Ed Martinez of Omaha, NE; six step-children, John Hawk of Denison, Iowa, Rick (Paula) Hawk of Arizona, Randy (Teresa) Hawk of Omaha, NE, Dee Dee (Melvin) Totten of Denison, Iowa, Teresa Miller of Burwell, NE and Steve Hawk of Burwell, NE; one brother, Ted (Zelma) Hill of Nisland, South Dakota; two sisters, Loretta Hill of Troy, New York and Rachel Rosenau of Gillette, Wyoming; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; step-daughter, Sandy Swanson; five brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law, Jeff Zediker.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, NE.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Orchard Hill Cemetery near Orchard, Nebraska with Lonna Grabenstein, Chaplain, ruralMed Home Health and Hospice, officiating.

Dorothy Kay Hawk  (1945-2021)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Delores L. Dailey, age 98, of North Platte, Nebraska passed peacefully into paradise, with her family surrounding her, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.&nbsp; Delores was born on April 3, 1923 in West Frankfort, Illinois to James and Annabelle (Westell) Simpson.&nbsp; She lived with, and was raised most of her young life, by her grandparents, John &amp; Mary Westell.&nbsp; Delores graduated from West Frankfort High School in 1939.&nbsp; Later that year, she moved to North Platte, Nebraska with her mother. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Shortly after arriving in North Platte, she met the love of her life, and future husband, Dean W. Dailey.&nbsp; To this union they had three children - their daughter, Deanna, and two sons, Dennis and Danny (Boonie).&nbsp; Shortly after Dean and Delores were married, WWII broke out and Dean, Delores and baby Deanna went from one Army Post to another across the U.S. until Dean was deployed overseas in early 1944.&nbsp; Delores returned to North Platte where she volunteered numerous times at the famous North Platte Canteen. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Dean returned from the War in the fall of 1945 and they remained in North Platte for the rest of their lives.&nbsp; Deanna, who had been an 'only child' since 1941, was joined by baby brothers Dennis in 1955 and Boonie in 1957.&nbsp; So Delores was a busy lady raising kids, but she still started a career at the J.C. Penney co. where she was empolyed for over 30 years! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Delores was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Auxiliary Branch of the 40 &amp; 8 (the 8 &amp; 40).&nbsp; She served as Legion Auxiliary President in 1966 an was recently honored as a 75 year member of that organization.&nbsp; She was also a 70+ year member of the VFW Auxiliary and a longtime member of the Women of the Moose and the Eagles Auxiliary.&nbsp; Her favorite pastime was ALWAYS - BINGO! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, in 1978; grandson, Jimmy Williams; granddaughter, Leslie Dailey; son-in-law, Ronnie Williams; niece, Vagene Bomberger; her parents; and her grandparents. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deanna Williams, Dennis (Connie) Dailey, and Danny 'Boonie' (Liz) Dailey - all of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren Denise (Jim) Hohnholt, Tom (Julie) Williams, Megan Dailey, Julie (Ben) Dailey, and Brad Dailey; great-grandchildren Chase Hohnholt, Brogen Hohnholt, Whitney williams, Ezra Williams, Alexia Morales, Victor 'Butchie' Morales and Noah Morales; brother James Simpson and his mother, Brenda; and nephew Nathen Simpson of High Ridge, Missouri. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Services for Delores will be held at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, Nebraska at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021.&nbsp; Her final resting place will be with her husband, Dean, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.&nbsp; A luncheon will follow at the North Platte Moose Lodge. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The service will be live streamed via the Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend.
