Edward "Eddie" Dean Morrison, age 43 of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 in Hot Springs. Eddie was born July 12, 1978, at Rapid City,&nbsp; South Dakota to Cindy and Edward Dean Morrison, Sr. He graduated from Ogallala High School. Following high school, Eddie split time between Ogallala, Nebraska and South Dakota, working in handyman services and on irrigation pivots and fencing. Eddie had a great appreciation for the outdoors and animals, he loved going horse back riding in nature and appreciating all of God's beauty. He was tender hearted and gentle souled. He was a great uncle to all of his nieces and nephews, he loved each and every one of them. He had a special place in his heart for family and animals, and enjoyed helping his mother on the ranch and was a hard worker. He had a wide range in tastes of music and enjoyed reading and learning about the Bible. Eddie was preceded in death by his grandparents; Dorothy Welsh, Jim Welsh, &amp; Rhoda Morrison. Edward Dean "Eddie" Morrison  (1978-2021)

Eugene Campbell, age 92, of Curtis, Nebraska, died April 18, 2021 at his home south of Curtis.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born October 9, 1928 in St. Ann, Nebraska, son of Neal and Bernice (Kolbet) Campbell.

Eugene served his country from February 15, 1951 - February 3, 1953 stationed in Alabama and Alaska. On July 3, 1952 Eugene married Muriel Koetter at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Eugene spent his life farming and ranching on his farm south of Curtis.

He loved to spend time on his Harley, and could often be found in his shop welding and tinkering around. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Curtis and served on the Federal Land Bank board.&nbsp;

Survivors include children; Catherine Campbell of Curtis, Nebraka, Doug Campbell of Curtis, Nebraska, Diane Campbell (Tom) of Ladonia, Texas, Ted (Angie) Campbell of Curtis, Nebraska,and Tom (Melisa) Campbell of Curtis, Nebraska; grandchildren,&nbsp; Mandy, Kacey, Delton, Dustin, Bret, Spencer, Tempest, Cassidee, Kyle, Dirk, Allison, and Nadia, great-grandchildren, Colton, Ireland, Lilly, Bentley, Cohen, Cora, and Reid, brother, Melvin Campbell of Stratton, Nebraska, sisters, Barb Kennedy of Sutherland, Nebraska, Sharon Campbell of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Nora Mulberry of Idaho Falls, Idaho, daughter-in-law Linda Campbell of McCook, Nebraska; along with many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Eugene Campbell  (1928-2021)

Pete Brown, age 64, of Ogallala, Nebraska passed away, Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala.&nbsp;

Pete was born October 12, 1956 to Napoleon and Lorena (Eaton) Brown in Sterling, Colorado.&nbsp;

Pete received his early education in Haxton, Colorado before moving to Ogallala where he graduated from High School.&nbsp;

He was married to Susan Sauer and they resided in Ogallala where they welcomed 3 children; Nicholas, Erica and Amber.

On March 5, 2005 he was united in marriage to Jayne Beckius in Ogallala, Nebraska. In 2008 they purchased their dog, Sadie.

Pete worked maintenance of way for the Union Pacific Rail Road for 38 years, before retiring in 2016.&nbsp;

In high school his passion was wrestling. His son and grandsons would follow in his footsteps.&nbsp;

Pete's hobbies included; photography, shooting guns with his children, playing with Sadie and loved watching T.V. with her. He also enjoyed putting model cars together and washing and waxing his mustang. Pete would do anything for anybody, he would travel many miles for his son's wrestling meets. He loved his family and loved playing pool at family gatherings.&nbsp;

Pete is survived by his wife, Jayne Brown; son, Nicholas (Tonya) Brown, all of Ogallala, NE; two daughters; Erica Brown, of Crete, NE; Amber Brown, of Ogallala, NE; a sister, Phyllis Wood, of Cody, WY; a brother, Roger Brown, of Fort Collins, CO; and 6 grandchildren; Annabella Brown, Louden Brown, Blake Plugge, Sophia Plugge, Colton Pouk and Nicollette Reyna.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Lloyd Brown; and 2 sisters, Barbara Tinnon and Beverly Balderson.

Pete Brown  (1956-2021)

Douglas R. “Doug” Shaffer, II, age 36, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Doug was born on November 16, 1984, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Douglas and Venus (Wendt) Shaffer. He was born with a serious heart defect which required surgery at a very young age. He received his primary education from Overton Public Schools and graduated from Overton High School, with the class of 2003. He then went on to further his education in Chicago, Illinois, at the Universal Technical Institute in Auto Mechanics. He spent two years and graduated from UTI earning his Associates Degree, specializing in the Toyota Factory course which placed him in Michigan.

Following graduation, Doug moved to Grand Blanc, Michigan, working for Toyota. While living in Michigan, Doug had a son, Casey, who he loved and adored. After four years in Grand Blanc, Doug was ready to move back to Overton and be closer to his parents.

Doug started working at Pizza Hut in Lexington, which he enjoyed for the free food. He then spent a few years working at Plum Creek Motors before finding his calling, at Tyson, training to be a Scale Technician. He loved his work and co-workers. Even after two major heart surgeries, Doug couldn’t wait to get back to work.

Doug had a love and hate relationship working on vehicles. He always looked forward to shooting pool in the Holdrege Pool League. He enjoyed hunting prairie dogs, shooting guns, riding his motorcycles and spending time with his family and especially his son, Casey.

Those who knew Doug can attest to his sense of humor; he was kind-hearted and had a selfless soul. Even though Doug’s heart gave much too soon, Doug has left a tremendous legacy of love.

Survivors include his parents, Doug (Kay) Shaffer of Overton, Nebraska; his son, Casey Shaffer of Newport Richey, Florida; his siblings, Mandy Martin of Holdrege, Nebraska, Caroline (Jason) LaVene of Mount Morris, Michigan, Sarah (Ruben) Martin of Overton, Nebraska, Tony (Jazzmyn) Martin of Elm Creek, Nebraska, and Paul Martin of Overton, Nebraska; grandparents, Donna (Bobby) Prentice of Oconto, Nebraska and Miles Shaffer of Millington, Michigan; thirteen nieces and nephews, numerous aunts and uncles; as well as extended family and a host of friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Venus Langlois; grandmother, Shirley Shaffer; grandfather, Paul Esslinger; grandma and grandpa Wendt from Michigan; as well as aunts and uncles.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraka with Pastor Rex Adams, officiating. There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Doug’s wish for cremation. Burial will be held at a later date.

Douglas R. 'Doug' Shaffer, II  (1984-2021)

This is not an exciting story.&nbsp; I was asked about some 'hows' and 'whys' so I will write some of the things that has happened to me.&nbsp; If the story gets too boring, you are allowed to skip ...... The first things I remember is the concrete two story house where I was born.&nbsp; My dad’s name was Lara pronounced Larry Simon Daugherty, my mother’s name was Florence Alzata [Crew].&nbsp; According to my baby book, my life started at 1:05 Oct. 8, 1928.&nbsp; Birth weight was 9 lbs and 8 oz. &nbsp;I measured in at 22 3/4 in.&nbsp; I had a sister, Eulala Grace, born in 1922, brothers, Wayne Leroy 1924, and Homer Eugene 1926.&nbsp; We all looked forward to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and birthdays!&nbsp; Our baths was taken in a washtub by the wood heating stove in the winter, in a back room in the summer.&nbsp; There was always horses, Dad could break horses "kid broke" better than anyone I ever knew.&nbsp; When I filially got old enough to wear my first bib overalls, we all went to school on a rodeo roper horse we called 'CAP'.&nbsp; Those was good times.&nbsp; He stood at least 15 hands high, pretty as a picture.&nbsp; Two rode in the saddle, two rode behind.&nbsp; When my second year started, we rode two horses, two on each.&nbsp; We always went regardless of the weather!&nbsp; By the time I started the third grade, Dad had hired a blacksmith by the name of Harmon Ady to build a buggy for us to go to school in.&nbsp; We still used CAP to pull it.&nbsp; My earliest memories is in the corn field Mom would take one row, Dad would take two, I would ride in the front and act like I was driving!

Times was tough and so Dad had to sell the saddle horse we called "Prince".&nbsp; We said goodbye to our friend and pal and let him be led away, Dad said he just couldn't turn down that much money! &nbsp;When I ask him, how much? he said $100.00!!&nbsp; "I said let me see it!" He said he left it at the bank!!!!!&nbsp; What a disappointment!!!!!&nbsp; In the spring of 1937, we moved to a ranch north of Trenton and south of Beverly.&nbsp; We then had a 'broom tail' Wyoming horse to break for Rodger Plfum.&nbsp; He gentled down to be the best horse we ever had. &nbsp;When we got moved we then went to a little country school Dist. 26. &nbsp;I was just finishing the third grade. &nbsp;Our teacher was Ellen Brown. &nbsp;The Tauls: Margret, Doris, and Don, also the Thomases: Tom, Norma, Pauleen , and Donald Lee. &nbsp;

One of the events that sticks in my mind is the day my sister almost got bit with a rattler.&nbsp; We was walking to school across a prairie dog town.&nbsp; I looked back to see why she wasn’t coming she stood as if she was frozen to the spot!! &nbsp;We all run back to see a big rattler coiled to strike!!!&nbsp; &nbsp;My brother gave her a big shove away from the snake then we threw clods to kill the snake!!

By the time I got to the eighth grade, the school was down to only four kids. &nbsp;From then on, I got to go to Beverly to finish nineth and tenth grades. &nbsp;Those was happy years. &nbsp;I rode a paint we called "Dolly" to school. &nbsp;I did ride a bicycle some, but a horse was a lot faster!! &nbsp;Jim Abbuhl also rode to school, we also rode together to fix fence and tend cattle for a number of neighbors, when not in school. &nbsp;When we rode for "Beverly Ranch" we would ride 'till 'bout noon, then stop and make a grass fire in a safe place and heat up a can of pork and beans for our dinner.&nbsp; Jim and I remained friends through the many years! &nbsp;I always liked horses and anything that could be done with them. &nbsp;Homer was the main tractor operator.&nbsp; Wayne was the repair man, and I was the one to fix fence and take care of cattle we had taken in for pasture. &nbsp;This I fully enjoyed.&nbsp; My brother Wayne was master of the bullwhip, which we called a 'black snake'.&nbsp; I would roll up a paper into a cigar shape and hold it at arm’s length and Wayne would crack the bull whip and cut 'bout an inch at a time 'till it was close to my fingers! &nbsp;Never once did he hit my hand or finger while doing his whip trick.

After I finished my tenth grade, I was allowed to go to Trenton to finish high school. &nbsp;One time we took Clarence Bunnell's 'ole 1928 Chevrolet into Kansas and got caught in a blizzard, we had to pile in the back seat to keep warm. &nbsp;We had to stay there all night and I somehow froze my heals, why my toes didn't freeze I'll never know!! &nbsp;After school I was always looking for some work to earn some money. &nbsp;I raked lawns, cleaned furnaces, hauled hay even unloaded coal from a boxcar for 25 cents a ton.&nbsp; I did graduate in 1946 and got to spend the summer on the ranch. &nbsp;That summer I got my first horse, my Dad bought him at the sale barn for $35 (I think) for my summer’s work! &nbsp;In January of 1947 Dad bought a farm in Iowa. &nbsp;We had to have a sale and I had to sell "Champ". &nbsp;After we got moved, I spent the winter cutting hedge posts from hedge rows. &nbsp;When I wasn't doing that, I would help rebuild the barn. &nbsp;There was no job I could find that would pay anything! &nbsp;In the spring I got to come back to be a hired hand for Dorman Cobb. &nbsp;I didn't have a car so all I could do is work. &nbsp;I was to get $ 100 per month but when harvest was over, he gave me a bonus for working through harvest. &nbsp;When I got back to Iowa Wayne and I bought a 1939 Ford car together! &nbsp;I tried to find a job, but didn't find one, so when spring came, I again headed back to Nebraska. &nbsp;This time I worked for my board and room for Dorman Cobb. &nbsp;Then "Hap" Lilinthall hired me at his feed lot. &nbsp;He paid $75 per month. &nbsp;It was hard cold work and when he cheated me out of half of my first months wages, I headed for town to look for another job. &nbsp;This time I found a job with the railroad, working on the section. &nbsp;This was a job of joy! &nbsp;It was the first job I had ever had where I had a regular paycheck. &nbsp;That summer I met the most wonderful girl, and it didn't hurt also that she was most attractive. &nbsp;The summer went zipping by and before fall I was sure I had found the one in a million for me! &nbsp;On the 16th of October we was married at the Hitchcock courthouse by Judge Mote with Ray and Bess Bunnell as witnesses. &nbsp;The winter of 49 -50 was record breakers for snow and wind. &nbsp;Two days after we got married, I started work at the Ford Garage, Don Thompson owned it. &nbsp;I earned the great grand total of $33 per week.&nbsp; That wasn't bad 'cause I only had to put in about 60 to 70 hours a week. &nbsp;Wayne was wanting his car, so he bought my half of it and we had to find another one. &nbsp;

We must be a leap year couple, we was married on leap year, Russell was born the next leap year, Ron on the next, and by the way my mother was born February 29 1888!!!!

Oh yes back to my story .......... I worked for the Ford dealer through the winter, then went to work for Fred Wacker on the Beverly Ranch for about a year then came back to Trenton and back to the Ford again.&nbsp; Worked as a mechanic till the fall of 58. Then went to work for the Chevrolet dealer. &nbsp;I worked for him 'till I started my own shop in1963. &nbsp;We rented the rear of Quicks welding shop and started from scratch. &nbsp;We next got a chance to buy the old Ford Garage building so with the help of Frosty Quick's tools we went into business. &nbsp;In 1980 we sold the building but didn’t get the rural carrier job as promised so I went to radiator school at Omaha then started a radiator shop. &nbsp;I also bought another building on main street, but when I got the chance to carry mail at Wauneta, I sold it too. &nbsp;We are now retired; we live close to our church that we have been going to since 1955. &nbsp;We have family and dear friends that love us, and we love them so we are very well blessed.

Donald Karl Daugherty passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was 92 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Russell Wayne in 1996; sister, Eulala Joiner and husband, Howard; brothers, Homer Daugherty and wife, Laura, and Wayne Daugherty; and granddaughter, Angie Stamm.

Don is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris of Trenton, NebraskaE; son, Ron Daugherty of Trenton, Nebraska; grandson, Larry (Larissa) Daugherty of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and two granddaughters, Jody Stamm of Atlanta, Georgia and Audra Wilson of Roanoke, Virginia; great-grandchildren: Robyn, Katlyn, Ian, Aaron, and Caleb Daugherty.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska. The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday afternoon, April 24, 2021, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska with Pastor Johnny Walker officiating.  </figure>This is not an exciting story.&nbsp; I was asked about some 'hows' and 'whys' so I will write some of the things that has happened to me.&nbsp; If the story gets too boring, you are allowed to skip ...... The first things I remember is the concrete two story house where I was born.&nbsp; My dad’s name was Lara pronounced Larry Simon Daugherty, my mother’s name was Florence Alzata [Crew].&nbsp; According to my baby book, my life started at 1:05 Oct. 8, 1928.&nbsp; Birth weight was 9 lbs and 8 oz. &nbsp;I measured in at 22 3/4 in.&nbsp; I had a sister, Eulala Grace, born in 1922, brothers, Wayne Leroy 1924, and Homer Eugene 1926.&nbsp; We all looked forward to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and birthdays!&nbsp; Our baths was taken in a washtub by the wood heating stove in the winter, in a back room in the summer.&nbsp; There was always horses, Dad could break horses "kid broke" better than anyone I ever knew.&nbsp; When I filially got old enough to wear my first bib overalls, we all went to school on a rodeo roper horse we called 'CAP'.&nbsp; Those was good times.&nbsp; He stood at least 15 hands high, pretty as a picture.&nbsp; Two rode in the saddle, two rode behind.&nbsp; When my second year started, we rode two horses, two on each.&nbsp; We always went regardless of the weather!&nbsp; By the time I started the third grade, Dad had hired a blacksmith by the name of Harmon Ady to build a buggy for us to go to school in.&nbsp; We still used CAP to pull it.&nbsp; My earliest memories is in the corn field Mom would take one row, Dad would take two, I would ride in the front and act like I was driving!Times was tough and so Dad had to sell the saddle horse we called "Prince".&nbsp; We said goodbye to our friend and pal and let him be led away, Dad said he just couldn't turn down that much money! &nbsp;When I ask him, how much? he said $100.00!!&nbsp; "I said let me see it!" He said he left it at the bank!!!!!&nbsp; What a disappointment!!!!!&nbsp; In the spring of 1937, we moved to a ranch north of Trenton and south of Beverly.&nbsp; We then had a 'broom tail' Wyoming horse to break for Rodger Plfum.&nbsp; He gentled down to be the best horse we ever had. &nbsp;When we got moved we then went to a little country school Dist. 26. &nbsp;I was just finishing the third grade. &nbsp;Our teacher was Ellen Brown. &nbsp;The Tauls: Margret, Doris, and Don, also the Thomases: Tom, Norma, Pauleen , and Donald Lee. &nbsp;One of the events that sticks in my mind is the day my sister almost got bit with a rattler.&nbsp; We was walking to school across a prairie dog town.&nbsp; I looked back to see why she wasn’t coming she stood as if she was frozen to the spot!! &nbsp;We all run back to see a big rattler coiled to strike!!!&nbsp; &nbsp;My brother gave her a big shove away from the snake then we threw clods to kill the snake!!By the time I got to the eighth grade, the school was down to only four kids. &nbsp;From then on, I got to go to Beverly to finish nineth and tenth grades. &nbsp;Those was happy years. &nbsp;I rode a paint we called "Dolly" to school. &nbsp;I did ride a bicycle some, but a horse was a lot faster!! &nbsp;Jim Abbuhl also rode to school, we also rode together to fix fence and tend cattle for a number of neighbors, when not in school. &nbsp;When we rode for "Beverly Ranch" we would ride 'till 'bout noon, then stop and make a grass fire in a safe place and heat up a can of pork and beans for our dinner.&nbsp; Jim and I remained friends through the many years! &nbsp;I always liked horses and anything that could be done with them. &nbsp;Homer was the main tractor operator.&nbsp; Wayne was the repair man, and I was the one to fix fence and take care of cattle we had taken in for pasture. &nbsp;This I fully enjoyed.&nbsp; My brother Wayne was master of the bullwhip, which we called a 'black snake'.&nbsp; I would roll up a paper into a cigar shape and hold it at arm’s length and Wayne would crack the bull whip and cut 'bout an inch at a time 'till it was close to my fingers! Billy Dean Hansen, age 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his fiancé by his side after receiving a blessing from the Chaplin on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Billy was born September 5, 1961 in McCook to parents Robert A. and Evelyn B. (Quick) Hansen.&nbsp; He was one of seven children who grew up south of Maywood, NE where he also attended school.&nbsp; Billy graduated from Maywood High School with the Class of 1979.

On March 17, 1978, Billy married Deborah K. (Cupp) Hansen in Oberlin, KS.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with four children.

Billy was an outdoorsman who loved his farm cats, working cattle, farming the land and hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and was a wonderful cook.&nbsp; You could always count on Billy to have something on the smoker.&nbsp; He was a member of the Garden Prairie Church.&nbsp;

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deb Hansen; and daughter, Jennifer Hansen.

Jack Dale Parsons, age 85, of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.

Jack was born December 6, 1935 in McCook in parents Harry S. and Mollie (Wickman) Parsons.&nbsp; He was one of two sons born to this union.&nbsp; Jack grew up in McCook where he also attended school.

On May 6, 1954 Jack enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country for the next twenty years.&nbsp; Jack fought during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star.&nbsp; He honorably retired in 1974.

While stationed overseas, Jack met the love of his life, Ursula Marie (Hau) Parsons.&nbsp; The couple married on June 26, 1957 in Duetsheim, Germany.&nbsp; They became the proud parents of three children: Evelin, David, and Lynn.&nbsp; Following Jack’s military retirement, the family returned to McCook, NE.&nbsp; At that time, Jack began working at Parker Hannifin. He retired in 1994.

Jack was a member of McCook Christian Church where he and Ursula faithfully attended.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, remodeling his home, watching television and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Parsons; cousin, Buck (Colletta) Parsons, and stepbrothers and sisters.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Ursula Parsons of McCook, NE; three children, Evelin (Don) Weiss of McCook, NE, David (Connie) Parsons of Phoenix, AZ, and Lynn (Rob) Brooks of Tahachapi, CA; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Marilyn A. Holdorf, age 80, of Big Springs, NE, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.

Marilyn was born in Creighton, NE, on June 9, 1940, the only child of Vernon and Bertha (Thompson) Nelson.

Marilyn attended school in Big Springs, NE and graduated from Big Springs High School in 1957. She moved to various places through her life before settling in Big Springs in 2002 when she retired from the Federal Service.&nbsp;

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 28 years, Richard "Dick" Holdorf, of Big Springs, NE; her children; April (Eddie) Bruegenhempke, of Hurdland, MO; Gerald "Buddy" (Kelly), of Peoria, AZ; Kreig Kenfield; Todd (Tammy) Leckenby, all of Cantonment, FL; Danielle (Rodney) Cornett, of St. Charles, MO; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, other family and many, many more that called her mom, grandma and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marilyn Ann Holdorf  (1940-2021)

LaVeta May (Bernard) Howard was born December 5, 1926, in rural Dundy County, Nebraska, to Henry (Hank) Adam and Helen Lucille (Louch) Bernard. LaVeta grew up near Benkelman, Nebraska and attended 1st through half of 8th grade at Hiawatha school. Her parents moved to their home place in rural Dundy County and she finished 8th grade at Hoover Country School. On February 24, 1946, LaVeta married Johnnie Edward Howard at the Pleasant Valley Church in Dundy County, Nebraska.&nbsp; LaVeta and Johnnie lived and worked on a farm and feedlot in Dundy County, moving into Benkelman in 1949 where Johnnie was employed as a truck driver. In 1950 during the Korean Conflict LaVeta joined Johnnie at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was stationed. In 1951 the family moved to Sidney Nebraska, living there until purchasing the home place north of Palisade, Nebraska, in 1954. In 2016 LaVeta moved her home to Hayes Center, Nebraska. In December 2018 she became a resident at Brookdale Senior Living in McCook, Nebraska, which later changed to Kinship Pointe. LaVeta was a devoted wife and mother. She worked beside Johnnie on the farm and ranch. While in Sidney, she worked in the Ordnance Plant defusing bombs. LaVeta was baptized in and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Legion Aux. #318 and a life member of VFW Aux. #7028 all in Palisade, Nebraska. She belonged to numerous card clubs in Palisade and Wauneta. LaVeta enjoyed fishing and traveling in their motor home. She spent hours crocheting blankets for family members. Most of all she loved being with family. LaVeta passed away, Monday, April 19th, 2021, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; LeVeta was 94 years of age. LaVeta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Johnnie; one sister Maxine Reynolds; her brother Marlin Henry Bernard; and grandsons Ira Lee Howard and Joshua Keenan Howard. Betty Jean Neal, age 94 of Broken Bow, NE passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow, NE.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, NE with her grandson Pastor Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford, NE. Betty was born on May 29, 1926 &nbsp;in the little sod house on the Dismal River near Thedford, NE to Ralph and Edith (Ricks) Jameson. She grew up there and since there was no school nearby, she was held back until her brother was old enough for school then the Albright school was moved in a quarter mile from their home, then high school she attended the Nebraska State High School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE her freshman and sophomore year, then finished up and graduated from Thedford with a Normal Training Certificate. One of the things that stood out to her was the day in high school when all the kids were called together to listen to Pres. Franklin Delano Roosevelt declare war on Japan, she said it was a very sober day.&nbsp; After high school she taught school in Broadwater and Bayard, NE. She then moved back home to the Dismal River to help on the home place and ended up teaching school there as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty married Kenneth Neal on May 19, 1947 in Stapleton, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; To this union was born 3 boys and 2 girls.&nbsp; She experienced so much in 94 years of life….inside plumbing, horse and buggy to automobiles, modern kitchen appliances, television…plus the hardships of drought and blizzards, especially the Blizzard of ’49. &nbsp;She lived most of her adult life in Thedford working as a homemaker, always baking up fresh bread, canning and freezing all her garden produce, she worked as a waitress, worked with her husband at the Neal Lumber store, &nbsp;and had many little jobs to help the family out.&nbsp; In December of&nbsp; 2016, a few months after her 90th&nbsp;birthday &nbsp;she went to live with her daughter and husband in Broken Bow and remained with them until going into Brookstone View a week before her homegoing.

Betty was a member of the Thedford Vicinity Women’s Club, was a 4-H club leader, &nbsp;school board member, Sunday School teacher, Women’s Ministry director, was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, and she loved to play her organ, she was an excellent artist which most of her children or grandchildren have at least 1 oil painting of hers, sewed many quilts for her family, and crocheted her daughters and&nbsp; most of her granddaughters a table cloth. Gardening and growing flowers was her love and she often commented how she missed her garden.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;She loved her family and her Lord and they loved her dearly as well.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford, NE.

David Roy Nickerson, age 91, of Indianola, NE passed away on April 18, 2021 at Brookstone Gardens in Kearney, NE.

David was born April 8, 1930 in Indianola to parents Roy Leslie and Nell Emily (Plourd) Nickerson.&nbsp; He was one of two brothers who grew up in Indianola where he attended school and graduated from Indianola High School with the Class of 1948.&nbsp; Following high school, David served in the National Guard.&nbsp; He was a member of the McCook Unit for eight years.&nbsp;

On June 19, 1956, David married Evelynn Marie (Friehe) Nickerson in Culbertson, NE. The couple was blessed with five children.&nbsp; For over thirty years, David owned Midwest Sales where he spent time traveling as a Sales Representative to area service stations and tire repair shops before retiring in 1994.&nbsp; David was a history buff who enjoyed exploring libraries and museums, reading and watching Gunsmoke on television.&nbsp; He and Evelynn enjoyed traveling for both business and recreation and had visited every US State as well as Canada, Mexico, China, Greece, Brazil, New Zealand and Europe. David was a member of First Congregational Church in McCook, NE.

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelynn Nickerson; brother, Rodney Nickerson; grandson Derrick Deets and granddaughter Ziera Nickerson.

David Roy Nickerson  (1930-2021)

Beverly A. Norman, age 84, of Grant, NE, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE. Beverly was born February 1, 1937, at Hastings, Nebraska, to Lawrence and Matilda (Schutte) Erthum. Bev graduated from Ogallala High School in Ogallala, Nebraska with the class of 1955. On August 3, 1957, Bev married Maynard Norman at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. Maynard was serving in the Navy at the time, and the couple made their home in Olathe, KS briefly, before moving to San Diego, CA. Following Maynard's discharge from the Navy, the family moved to Grant, where Bev worked for nearly thirty years at the Grant Tribune Sentinel in Ad Sales. Bev was a mainstay at the newspaper, with her tenure spanning the employ of a multitude of editors over the years. She traveled throughout Perkins County and the surrounding area over the years and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the people. Bev retired from the paper in 1999, and her focus shifted to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bev was a devoted grandmother and was an ardent supporter of her grandchildren's endeavors. She was always at their sporting events, soaking up the experience and enjoying the people she got to visit with along the way. Bev was in her element when she was around people. Bev loved to visit and be in community with others, from selling advertising to attending social events and ball games. Bev gained a special appreciation for even the little things when her life began to slow down, like a trip to her favorite store, Hatch's. After Maynard passed away, Bev traveled as many places as she could. She always said Dad never wanted to stay home, but we are convinced it was her that was behind it all of those years. She traveled with her sister and sidekick, Barbara, through Europe, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Rome, and throughout the United States. They were in London the day of Princess Diana's funeral. Aside from the many family weekends at the lake growing up, our all-time favorite is when she took all of her children and spouses for five days in California to watch the Huskers play in the Rose Bowl. When asked which of her many trips was the best, Bev always replied in a way that strikes new meaning today... "the last one is always the favorite". May the perpetual light shine upon her on her last favorite journey. Bev was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; grandson, Gregory Jay Sis; great-grandson, Caden Alexander Maxon; sister, Barbara Hahn; and an infant brother. She traveled with her sister and sidekick, Barbara, through Europe, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Rome, and throughout the United States. They were in London the day of Princess Diana's funeral. Aside from the many family weekends at the lake growing up, our all-time favorite is when she took all of her children and spouses for five days in California to watch the Huskers play in the Rose Bowl. When asked which of her many trips was the best, Bev always replied in a way that strikes new meaning today... "the last one is always the favorite". May the perpetual light shine upon her on her last favorite journey. Richard Donald Davis was born on March 22, 1928, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Harry and Julia Theresa (Buhrman) Davis. Richard grew up and attended school in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island High School in 1945. Richard was employed as a mechanic for many years at Valley Farm, Inc., the local John Deere dealership. Richard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Benkelman, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the Benkelman Fire Department for 25 years including Fire Chief. He served on the Benkelman City Council, was Mayor of Benkelman and he was also a Boy Scout leader. Richard loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Richard passed away Monday April 19th, 2021, at the Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman, Nebraska. He was 93 years of age. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Arlene. Doran Trent Mitchell, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away at Great Plains&nbsp;Health in North Platte on April 17, 2021, the day after turning 59. Doran was born April 16, 1962, to Keith and Betty Mitchell at North Platte where he grew up.&nbsp; Following high school, Doran went on the road installing cell towers for several years then worked construction in various places before returning to North Platte.&nbsp; In 1999 he went to work for Municipal Light and Water and worked for the city for 20 years. On July 6, 2007, Doran married Cherise Henry in North Platte, where they&nbsp;made their home.&nbsp; He loved fishing, gardening, growing hot peppers and&nbsp;made the best salsa with his own ingredients.&nbsp; Doran was also a beloved&nbsp;Chicago Cubs fan.&nbsp; He was quick-witted and had the best sense of humor.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doran will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather and&nbsp;friend who was always there when someone was in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Betty; and father-in-law, Robert Henry. Sally was born to Ivan and Eunice (Horn) Shepherd on June 13, 1951, at Arnold, Nebraska where she grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from Arnold High School,&nbsp;Sally attended business school in Grand Island, Nebraska then moved to North&nbsp;Platte where she worked at the Bus Depot and had a son, Robin, in 1974. Sally later met William Perry and they married in July 1985.&nbsp; A couple years later her daughter, Samantha, was born.&nbsp; Sally went on to work for Nebraska Machinery and attended Mid-Plains Community College, earning&nbsp;her Associates Degree, then moved to Kearney, Nebraska in the mid '90's and&nbsp;received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Sally worked for Cabela's call center in Kearney and when she moved back&nbsp;to North Platte in 2000 she continued working for Cabela's until retiring in 2015. Sally was a member of the Arnold Legion Auxiliary and was a cancer survivor.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, reading and loved spending time with her family.&nbsp; Sally especially enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren and would open her home to any of her family in need. She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Shepherd. Sally is survived by her mother, Eunice Shepherd; and children, Rob Shepherd and Samantha (Perry) Hopkinson, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Tessa, Takia, Jayden and Brody Shepherd; great-granddaughter, Mila Alvorado; her brother, Gregory Shepherd, of Minden, Nebraska; and other family. Marjorie “Ilene” Shelbourn was born April 23, 1939 to Elmer and Margaret (Mayfield) Fernen in rural Todd County, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm north of Valentine, Nebraska and attended school in Todd County, graduating from high school in 1956.

She met George Shelbourn at the Old Settlers Reunion and they were married December 20, 1956. They spent 51 very happy years together until George’s passing in 2008. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Vicky, Cindy, Jerry and Diane, and grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

At the age of 27, she realized her need for a Savior and committed her life to Jesus. Throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in the Lord, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Ilene was known for her passion to see others come to know the Lord and her strong prayers for others in their times of happiness and needs. She was an encouragement to her family and friends in their walk with the Lord.

Ilene was a custodian and bus driver for Littleburg School for 29 years. Her school was a tribute to her dedication and hard work. The school grounds with several beautiful flower beds were enjoyed by many.

Ilene went to be with Jesus in Heaven on April 16, 2021 in Valentine, NE.

Leaving behind to celebrate her life: Jerry (Lori) Shelbourn of Valentine, NE; Vicky Wanless (Don) of Chadron, NE; Diane Clark (Darold) of Lennox, SD; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren: along with many extended family members and friends.

Margorie "Ilene" Shelbourn  (1939-2021)

Lisa Lynn (Ecklund) Wilson, age 59, of rural Gothenburg, Nebraska passed away April 16th, 2021 at Gothenburg Health after a long battle with kidney disease.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa was born January 26, 1962 in Minden, Nebraska to Norris and Carole Ecklund. She grew up in Cozad and graduated with the class of 1980. She earned her nursing degree at Bryan School of Nursing and graduated in June of 1984. On June 18th, 1983, she married Mathew Wilson in Cozad, Nebraska. The couple moved to rural Gothenburg after finishing college.

She started her nursing career at Southview Manor in Cozad, then to Gothenburg Hospital for 2 years, and onto work at Gothenburg Family Practice for 15 years. She has been employed at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in the Cardiac Rehab department for 16 years. She celebrated 30 years of nursing in 2014 until she&nbsp; could no longer work due to health issues. In 2016, Lisa did go back to Gothenburg Health one day a week as her health allowed.

Lisa was very involved in activities. She directed VBS for many years at Banner Church, served on various committees within the church, and played the piano for many years. She was coordinator of MOPS and served on the board for 11 years. She was briefly involved in the Red Cross as a volunteer, and Jobs Daughters as director of music. She loved going to her children’s activities and was the one early to save seats for everyone. She was involved in AWANA for 20 years teaching kindergarten. Her passion was helping and serving others to know Christ.

Lisa loved to play the piano, read, go shopping with friends, but most of all doing things as a family. Her husband and children were the center of her life. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandma, “Mimi” to Brecken, Grady, Darren, and Gavin. She was very proud of all 4 children and grandchildren.

Lisa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Osa Ecklund, and Fred and Clara Timm; her parents Norris and Carole Ecklund; cousin Julie Smiley; and Uncle Dayne and Aunt Berneice Smith.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 38 years, Matt; daughter Ashley (Brent) Knust of Tilden, NE; sons Ben Wilson of Gothenburg, NE, Nolan (Elizabeth) Wilson of rural Cozad, NE and Dane Wilson of Joplin, MO; grandsons Brecken and Gavin Knust, and Grady and Darren Wilson; brothers Steve (Linda) Ecklund of Grand Island, NE and Scott (Robyn) Ecklund of Bartelsville, OK; mother and father-in-law, Bob and Glenda Wilson of rural Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-law, Crys (Doug) Max of rural Gothenburg, NE; step-mother, Roine Ecklund of Gothenburg, NE; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins; also, her dear friends, whom were very special to her.

 </figure>Lisa Lynn (Ecklund) Wilson, age 59, of rural Gothenburg, Nebraska passed away April 16th, 2021 at Gothenburg Health after a long battle with kidney disease.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lisa was born January 26, 1962 in Minden, Nebraska to Norris and Carole Ecklund. She grew up in Cozad and graduated with the class of 1980. She earned her nursing degree at Bryan School of Nursing and graduated in June of 1984. On June 18th, 1983, she married Mathew Wilson in Cozad, Nebraska. The couple moved to rural Gothenburg after finishing college.She started her nursing career at Southview Manor in Cozad, then to Gothenburg Hospital for 2 years, and onto work at Gothenburg Family Practice for 15 years. She has been employed at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in the Cardiac Rehab department for 16 years. She celebrated 30 years of nursing in 2014 until she&nbsp; could no longer work due to health issues. In 2016, Lisa did go back to Gothenburg Health one day a week as her health allowed.Lisa was very involved in activities. She directed VBS for many years at Banner Church, served on various committees within the church, and played the piano for many years. She was coordinator of MOPS and served on the board for 11 years. She was briefly involved in the Red Cross as a volunteer, and Jobs Daughters as director of music. She loved going to her children’s activities and was the one early to save seats for everyone. She was involved in AWANA for 20 years teaching kindergarten. Her passion was helping and serving others to know Christ.Lisa loved to play the piano, read, go shopping with friends, but most of all doing things as a family. Her husband and children were the center of her life. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandma, “Mimi” to Brecken, Grady, Darren, and Gavin. Lisa Lynn Wilson  (1962-2021)

Barbara Linn Booth, age 74, of Maxwell, Nebraska passed away April 10, 2020, at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born on November 9, 1946 to Frederick M. and Mildred (Bailey) Booth, in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

After graduating from high school and college Barbara worked at Retail Credit in Virginia. She returned to Nebraska where she finished her teaching degree and taught at Culbertson and Nemaha Valley. Barbara decided to go into car sales and worked for Misle-Chevrolet in Lincoln, Nebraska for several years and was a top saleswoman. She moved back to Maxwell and worked for her father. She opened the Corner Booth Restaurant on the interstate at Maxwell and served on the Planning Commission in Maxwell for many years. Barbara taught school at Hershey, Thedford (10 years), then at Medicine Valley in Curtis as a music teacher. She taught beginning orchestra for North Platte Public Schools, then as an Adjunct at Mid Plains Community College. After her retirement from teaching, she began her career as a realtor, retiring again December 2020.

Barbara was fiercely loyal to her family, having an extremely strong bond with her sisters. She loved her dogs, at one time having seven.

Barbara was a member of Episcopal Church of Our Savior, where she sang in the choir. She was a teacher to her core and taught kids how to be successful in life, not just music. To her first-time home buyers, she enjoyed mentoring them on how to purchase their first home, and mentoring to other realtors. Over the years she developed strong relationships and people were drawn to her.

Barbara Linn Booth (1946-2021)

Milburn “Mel” Qualls, 78, of North Platte, NE passed away at his home on April 16, 2021. He was born on September 26, 1942 in Torrington, WY. Mel entered the United States Air Force on November 3, 1959 and was Honorably Discharged on April 4, 1963.

He was united in marriage to Janet (Clark) Qualls and the couple made Cheyenne, WY and North Platte, NE their homes through the years. Mel started working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1968. He worked as a switchman, brakeman, conductor, and was an engineer for 10 years before he retired in 2003.

After retirement, he spent winters biking and participating in park activities with Jan and friends in Arizona. Mel was a member of the Eagles Club and the American Legion. He spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, boating and camping at Lake Maloney and in areas of Wyoming. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Mel was known for his humor, quick wit and comebacks which always kept people laughing. His smile always lit up a room. A recent highlight for Mel was a 60th wedding celebration with family in Galveston, TX.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Qualls; sister, Barb (Don) Frels; sons, Jeff (Sheryl) Qualls and Rod (Tasha) Qualls; grandchildren, Calli Qualls, Kara Qualls, Kodi Aydam, Sasha Landrigan, and Jesse Landrigan; great grandchildren, Melina and Mason Arvizu, Ali and Robby Landrigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Becky and Clive Miller; and a brother, Jerry Qualls.

There will be a private family graveside service at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Melvin Dean Kurth, of North Platte, Nebraska, died unexpectedly at home on April&nbsp;14, 2021, at the age of 78. Dean was born August 27, 1942, to Melvin and Betty Kurth at Callaway, Nebraska and&nbsp;grew up in Gurley, Nebraska.&nbsp; Following his high school graduation, Dean enlisted&nbsp;in the U.S. Air Force then, after his honorable discharge, returned to&nbsp;Nebraska to attend college.&nbsp; He spent a year at UNL then went on to&nbsp;graduate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with his B.S. in 1972&nbsp;and later earned his Master's Degree in accounting, all while working&nbsp;for Enron. Dean continued his employment with Enron until moving to&nbsp;North Platte in 1987 to work for the University of Nebraska Business&nbsp;Development Center, from which he retired. While going to school in Lincoln, Dean met Cheryl Costello. They married on January 31, 1965, in Marysville, Kansas.&nbsp; They raised two children and were the proud grandparents of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Dean was a great husband, father and grandpa who was always there for his family. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Gift of Hope. Dean was preceded in death by his parents. Deanna Kay Skufca  (1960-2021)

Dorvan E. Johnson, age 92, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away, Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Dorvan was born September 17, 1928 in Kit Carson County, Colorado to Tom and Grace (Hall) Johnson. In 1935 the family moved to Pawnee County where he attended school.&nbsp; &nbsp; Mr. Johnson worked on the family farm until purchasing his own place in Pawnee County in 1952. He sold the farm in 1967 and moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where he worked for George Booth Roofing of North Platte, Nebraska. He was employed at TRW and in 1969 went to work for Ogallala Public Schools. He worked as a janitor at the Junior High building, retiring in 1995.

On June 16, 1973 he was united in marriage to Sandy Bennett at the Ogallala Kingdom Hall.

Dorvan enjoyed working livestock and raising quarter horses. He especially enjoyed training colts at the Pawnee County Family Farm.

He served as Elder in the Ogallala Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. &nbsp; Dorvan is survived by two daughters; Cheryl (John) Basel of Olpe, Kansas and Terri Watkins of Hiawatha, Kansas; two grandsons; Justin (Jenelle) Watkins of Denison, Kansas and Jerod (Danielle) Watkins of Horton, Kansas; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents; eight sisters; Leona Linn, Zella Percevial, Twila Rettele, Evelyn Brown, Hazel Christie, Mary McKenny, Loretta Holton, Velma Meyer; and one brother, Clifford Johnson.&nbsp; &nbsp; The family chose cremation.

Johnson, age 92, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away, Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Dorvan was born September 17, 1928 in Kit Carson County, Colorado to Tom and Grace (Hall) Johnson. In 1935 the family moved to Pawnee County where he attended school.&nbsp; &nbsp; Mr. Johnson worked on the family farm until purchasing his own place in Pawnee County in 1952. He sold the farm in 1967 and moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where he worked for George Booth Roofing of North Platte, Nebraska. He was employed at TRW and in 1969 went to work for Ogallala Public Schools. He worked as a janitor at the Junior High building, retiring in 1995.On June 16, 1973 he was united in marriage to Sandy Bennett at the Ogallala Kingdom Hall.Dorvan enjoyed working livestock and raising quarter horses. He especially enjoyed training colts at the Pawnee County Family Farm.He served as Elder in the Ogallala Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. &nbsp; Dorvan is survived by two daughters; Cheryl (John) Basel of Olpe, Kansas and Terri Watkins of Hiawatha, Kansas; two grandsons; Justin (Jenelle) Watkins of Denison, Kansas and Jerod (Danielle) Watkins of Horton, Kansas; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents; eight sisters; Leona Linn, Zella Percevial, Twila Rettele, Evelyn Brown, Hazel Christie, Mary McKenny, Loretta Holton, Velma Meyer; and one brother, Clifford Johnson.&nbsp; &nbsp; The family chose cremation.No services are scheduled at this time.&nbsp;Online condolences may be given at www.drauckerfh.com by clicking the share a memory button.&nbsp; &nbsp;A memorial has been established in his name.&nbsp;Draucker Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

He attended school in Oshkosh, graduating from Garden County High School in 1957.&nbsp; He attended Midland College briefly before going into training for USDA--ASCS.&nbsp; He traveled to every office in the state training staff on the use of one of their new machines until being named County Executive Director of the Cedar County Office in Hartington, Nebraska.&nbsp; He became very active in NASCOE, an organization of ASCS personnel, not only in Nebraska, but also at the national level.&nbsp; He received several state and national awards in 1992, ironically, just at the time he was forced to retire.&nbsp; Later he accepted a place on the board of retired NASCOE members (RASCOE) where he served a number of years. Norm enjoyed any contact he could make with his former co-workers locally and around the state. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Norm suffered a brain bleed stroke just shortly after his 53rd birthday and spent the summer rehabilitating at Madonna Rehab Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; Doctors advised he go home to a skilled nursing home, but Norm and family had other ideas.&nbsp; His children gathered needed equipment from the local home health group, and Norm came home.&nbsp; His physical therapist and friend made house calls at first, and gradually progress was made in life skills such as eating, walking, and eventually driving and playing golf.&nbsp; All those who knew him well knew we had witnessed a miracle, and we were delighted to enjoy his full presence for another 29 bonus years.&nbsp; He often acknowledged the power of prayer that made this miracle possible.&nbsp; Fellowship with his church family at Our Saviour’s Lutheran became important to him. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Norm married Lorna Schneede in 1962.&nbsp; To this union was born Melanie Ann. In 1970 he was united in marriage to Janelle (Jan) Schulz in Hartington, Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union were born Brent Jason and Sherri Nicole.&nbsp; In 1976, Norm accepted a position in Bridgeport, Nebraska to be closer to family.&nbsp; In 1984, another position was taken in Alexandria, South Dakota to be closer to Jan’s family. In 1985 he took a position in Broken Bow, Nebraska, which was centrally located to all family. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Norm’s interests were many.&nbsp; A huge part of his life was devoted to sports--most prominently, golf.&nbsp; Wherever he lived, he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow golfers.&nbsp; He also volunteered to help add underground irrigation to the Hartington golf course, helped install irrigation and seed the fairways at the Bridgeport golf course, and served on the board at the Broken Bow course.&nbsp; He had the idea to establish the Junior Golf Camp in Broken Bow, which is ongoing through the efforts of many great volunteers.&nbsp; He enjoyed the successes of&nbsp; many of the campers as they played for various high school teams in the area, and several who went on to college careers.&nbsp; As Covid caused him to guard his health, he did find happiness driving his golf cart to watch family play.&nbsp; He happily followed the Broken Bow girls to cheer them on to victory at the state tournament last fall, especially as his grand-daughter was one of the team members!&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Norm also loved basketball, coaching girls in the sport of basketball when Melanie was a 4th grader in Hartington. He also coached Sherri’s grade school traveling team.&nbsp; With his knowledge and input, he helped Jan coach the high school girls golf team in Broken Bow. He enjoyed bowling for years, and spent many hours in the goose pit.&nbsp; Always a fan of many sports, Norm didn’t miss very many football or basketball games, especially if his kids or grandkids were playing, and the past few years could be found in the front row at the Indian gym, cheering on the players, and kibitzing with the referees. Through the internet this past year, many nights he would be watching or keeping tabs on two or three games at once.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A rousing game of pitch, or pinochle with friends was always a welcome diversion.&nbsp; Gin rummy rules were often debated in the family, and Norm was the family rules official. However, rules for a good game of bridge were mostly meant to be ignored by Norm.&nbsp; Family gatherings were never complete unless the cards hit the table--and it was said that whatever you bid in a pitch game, Norm was sure to go one higher. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Norm is survived by wife Jan, daughters Melanie (Shannon) Jordan and Sherri (Eric) Booth, son Brent (Katie) Custer.&nbsp; Grandchildren are Sean (Kylee) Sterkel, Destry (Mandy) Sterkel, Emery, Molly and Brynn Custer, Dalton and Savannah Jordan, Shjon and Lukas Booth.&nbsp; Great-grandchildren are Dax Sterkel and Jru Sterkel.&nbsp; Also surviving are brothers Stan and Gary (Sue) and his sister Molly (Bill) Vogler. Mark Axthelm, age 68, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 15, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born June 29, 1952, in North Platte, Nebraska, son of Cecil and Doris (Anderson) Axthelm.

Mark grew up in North Platte attended school at McKinley Grade School and graduated from North Platte High School.&nbsp; He lived in North Platte until 1971 and moved to Gothenburg until his passing.&nbsp;

He married Stephanie Weber on April 2, 1971 in North Platte, Nebraska and to this union they had two children: Jamie and Jenny.&nbsp; &nbsp;Mark and Steph farmed and ranched south of Gothenburg.&nbsp; He was a member of Banner United Methodist Church and had received his 50 year membership pin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mark loved his grandchildren dearly and loved to hunt and also loved his cattle.

Survivors include wife, Steph Axthelm of Gothenburg, NE; one daughter, Jenny (Steve) Skupa of Campbell, NE, one son, Jamie (JoEllen) Axthelm of SewardNE; five grandchildren Mackenzie Skupa, Alexa Axthelm, Sydney Skupa, Abbie Skupa and Ander Axthelm; one sister Kylie (David) Young of Rogersville, MO; two brothers, Tim (Mary) Axthelm of North Platte, NE and Mike Axthelm of Hillsboro, OR; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
