Ronald Delmar Morehead  (1946-2020)

Lavena Marie (Stock) Marks, age 88, of Trenton, Nebraska, passed away on October 16th, 2020 at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, Kansas, after battling dementia and the covid-19 virus.

Lavena Marie was born January 15, 1932, the youngest child of William "Bill" Winton Stock and Erma Fern (Matson) Stock.&nbsp; She was born and raised on the family farm south of Culbertson, Nebraska on the Driftwood Creek attending Sunday school and Church at the Stone Church north of where they lived.&nbsp; From there she attended the Church of God in Trenton.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She started school, attending District #3 when she turned four, attending through the 8th grade.&nbsp; Lavena then attended Culbertson High School, graduating in 1949.&nbsp; From there she began her 37 year teaching career following in her sister’s footsteps.

She taught under the direction of Ida May Marshall for one year in each District #4, Dike, Hayes Center, Nebraska and two years at Cornell before marrying Russell Marks on September 19, 1954.&nbsp; They lived in Oceanside, California for about six weeks until Russell was discharged from the service.&nbsp; They moved back to Hitchcock County, Nebraska where Lavena taught in Districts #19, #12, #41, #16, 6th grade in Trenton, Beverly (in it’s last year), then Trenton Public School keeping an eye on her own three while also teaching kindergarten, music, 4th grade, and library before retiring in 1997.

Lavena and Russell had three children of their own besides a multitude of ‘her kids’ that Lavena taught.&nbsp; She loved to work in her yard and took pride in her many varieties of flowers and canning and freezing the fruit and vegetables raised in the yard.&nbsp; She loved to cook and bake for her family carrying on many family traditions from her Mother like the decorated birthday cakes and decorated sugar cookies for the holidays.&nbsp; She loved playing games and cards with different groups.&nbsp; She loved to travel, belonging to the Pioneers Campers Club as well as taking several family trips in their little Shasta camper.&nbsp; In later years she wore the finish off the kitchen table playing dominoes with Russ and anyone else that came along.&nbsp; She was actively involved in many Church of God activities with Bible school, teaching Sunday school, leading music, upkeep of the Church grounds, and providing meals for pastors and their families.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Arthur Stock; sister-in-law, Dixie Stock; brothers-in-law, Don Fahrenbruch, Alton Marks, and Arthur Marks; and nephew, Russell Daugherty.

Lavena is survived by her husband of 66 years, Russell; daughter, Zita Rundel and husband, John; sons, Billy and Dennis Marks; grandsons, James Rundel of Boulder, Colorado and Schyler Marks and wife, Autumn, of Trenton; two great-grandchildren, Jaxxon and Thea Jae Marks; also, sister, Alta Fahrenbruch of Norton, Kansas; sisters-in-Law, Doris Daugherty and husband, Don, of Trenton and Alice Marks of Culbertson; brother-in-law, Willard Marks and wife, Janette, of McCook, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M (CT), on Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 2020 at the Grove Cemetery in Rural Culbertson, Nebraska.&nbsp; Viewing will be Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Lavena Marie Marks  (1932-2020)

Floyd Layton Holt, age 78, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 13, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. &nbsp; He was born January 2, 1942 in Chickasha, OK, son of Reford and Rosa Holt. Floyd grew up in Alex, OK where he attended and graduated from Alex High School. He married Brenda Gay on June 3, 1961 at Alex Baptist Church in Oklahoma and they had two children - Rusty and Shellie.&nbsp; They moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1974 and Floyd worked at Farmland&nbsp;Industries,&nbsp;then later on at Mid States Irrigation. He then became a business owner and operator of Holt Pivot Service&nbsp;and Repair. He was a member of the Nebraska Appaloosa Horse Club and received the Hall of Fame Award in 2019.&nbsp; Floyd enjoyed the NFR, playing poker, and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by son, Rusty (Kay) Holt of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Shellie Rossell of Gothenburg, NE; &nbsp;mother-in-law, Ila Faye Gay of Alex,OK; two brothers, Dan (Leta) Holt of Chickasha, OK and&nbsp; Mac (LaFonda) Holt of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Linda Ray of Childress, TX; two brothers-in-law, Randy Gay of Alex, OK&nbsp;and Marlon (Janice) Gay of Duncan, OK; two grandsons, Tyson Holt and Jordan Rossell;&nbsp; three granddaughters, Taress (Steven) Meier, Alyssa Holt, Taylor (Chad) Schmeitt; five great grandchildren (Cameron, Collin, Grayli, Brooklyn, Landon); special friend, Jo Johnson; along with many extended family and friends. Since the birth of Dale Burdette Wilson on July 4th, 1925, he has been a “firecracker,” so to speak, with a very independent spirit. Dale Burdette was born to Orrin and Ethel Belle (Smith) Wilson on the family farm north of Benkelman, Nebraska. He was 1 of 13 children raised in a two-bedroom house. Burdette attended school until the 8th grade, then completed his GED in 1975 and graduated from Wauneta High School. During his teen years, Burdette farmed. He was hired by Bill Damrow who later became his father-in-law when he married the farmer’s daughter. Burdette and Jackie Damrow were married August 4, 1946, and their love for each other lasted 73 years. To this union 5 children were born: Laddie, Alyce, Kathy, Bill and Rich. Burdette loved dancing to Big Band music, going to card parties, playing cribbage and attending all sports activities of his children, grandchildren and the area sports teams until he wasn’t physically able. Burdette will always be remembered for his joke telling. He loved to make people laugh and laughing always accompanied some knee slapping. Jackie would say “Burdette that joke is so old”, yet soon she would join in the laughing. Burdette had a strong commitment to his Christian faith and wanted others to have that relationship. It was a must that their family regularly attended church. Burdette will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Burdette passed away Friday morning, October 16, 2020, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska. He was 95 years of age. Burdette was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jackie; son-in-law Charlie Watt; granddaughters Katie Watt Bradbury and Kristina Lea Wilson. Dale "Burdette" Wilson  (1925-2020)

Walter Vernon Orman, age 83, of Hayes Center, Nebraska was taken to his heavenly home on October 14, 2020 at Gothenburg Health Hospital in Gothenburg, Nebraska. He was born August 7, 1937 in rural Maywood, Nebraska to Walter and Helen (Lenox) Orman.

Vernon graduated from University Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska and worked various jobs, eventually working in the livestock department at the University of Nebraska Experiment Station in North Platte, Nebraska. While working there he met the love of his life, Virginia Marlin. The couple was married September 20, 1959 in North Platte. They made their home in rural Hayes County, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Jackie and Sheri. They moved to Hayes Center, Nebraska in 1987 and continued to farm and ranch until 2004. Vernon was employed with the Nebraska Department of Roads for 26 years before retiring in 2013. He was also a field reporter for the Farm Service Agency until he retired in 2003.

Vernon was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church and was a trustee and elder in the church. He belonged to the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association, the Nebraska Cattleman Association, served on the Hayes Center Village board, and was on the Hayes County Co-Op board.

Vernon never knew a stranger and had a strong love for his family. He had a big, tender heart. He had a passion for his cattle and horses. He particularly enjoyed A.I.’ing cows. They also enjoyed traveling and getting together with neighbors to play card games.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Hayes Center, Nebraska; two daughters, Jackie (Dan) Loomis of Maywood, Nebraska, Sheri (Mike “Harley”) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Nebraska; grandchildren, April (James) Carroll of Hayes Center, Anthony (Kitty) Loomis of Maywood, Amanda (Jason) Cox of Hayes Center, Jack II (Sara) Loomis of Hayes Center, Logan (Nikki) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Wacey (Christy) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Monica Hamilton of Hayes Center, Dakota Hamilton of Hayes Center; fourteen great grandchildren; numerous other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evonne Klein.

While working there he met the love of his life, Virginia Marlin. The couple was married September 20, 1959 in North Platte. They made their home in rural Hayes County, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Jackie and Sheri. They moved to Hayes Center, Nebraska in 1987 and continued to farm and ranch until 2004. Vernon was employed with the Nebraska Department of Roads for 26 years before retiring in 2013. He was also a field reporter for the Farm Service Agency until he retired in 2003.Vernon was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church and was a trustee and elder in the church. He belonged to the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association, the Nebraska Cattleman Association, served on the Hayes Center Village board, and was on the Hayes County Co-Op board.Vernon never knew a stranger and had a strong love for his family. He had a big, tender heart. He had a passion for his cattle and horses. He particularly enjoyed A.I.’ing cows. They also enjoyed traveling and getting together with neighbors to play card games.Survivors include his wife Virginia of Hayes Center, Nebraska; two daughters, Jackie (Dan) Loomis of Maywood, Nebraska, Sheri (Mike “Harley”) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Nebraska; grandchildren, April (James) Carroll of Hayes Center, Anthony (Kitty) Loomis of Maywood, Amanda (Jason) Cox of Hayes Center, Jack II (Sara) Loomis of Hayes Center, Logan (Nikki) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Wacey (Christy) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Monica Hamilton of Hayes Center, Dakota Hamilton of Hayes Center; fourteen great grandchildren; numerous other family members and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evonne Klein.A memorial has been established his memory. Walter Vernon Orman  (1937-2020)

Betty Ann Duryea, age 69, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born November 15, 1950 in Macomb, Illinois to Kenneth R. and Emily “Peggy” (Payne) Knight. Her family moved to Nebraska when she was young and she attended Grand Island Northwest High School and graduated with the class of 1969. She then went on to further her education and received her CNA and MA.

She was united in marriage to Gary Babe in 1971 and one daughter was blessed to this union: Sarah. They made their home in Alda, Nebraska where Betty worked from home babysitting while her daughter was young. She then went to work as a CNA at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska. Their marriage would later end in divorce. She lived in Alda until 1992. During this time a second daughter was born in 1984, Emily. She was united in marriage to Matt Duryea in 1989 and they made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 2003, they bought a farm south of Bertrand, Nebraska and at this time Betty began working at the Bertrand Nursing Home. In 2010, they moved north of Lexington, Nebraska and they have resided there ever since.

Betty enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She was a talented artist and enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Matt Duryea of Lexington, Nebraska; her daughters, Sarah (Paul) Dockum of Hastings, Nebraska and Emily Knight of Holdrege, Nebraska; two step-daughters, Erica (Vex) Okuthe of Texas and Evah Martinez of Texas; thirteen grandchildren, Cheyanne, Cody, Caleb, Riley, Payton, Bryce, Angel, Kal-El, Makeda, Gio, Kenny, Leona and Ida; also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and step-daughter, Stacy Babe Wulf.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Betty’s wish for cremation.

A Graveside Service will be held in the Alda Cemetery at a later date.

Joanne Marie Ervin, age 94, of Brule, Nebraska passed away, Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Joanne was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on November 30, 1925 to Robert S. Hillyer and Gertrude (Nelson) Hillyer.

Joanne graduated from Ogallala High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to August Duane "Swede" Ervin August 23, 1944, making their home north of Brule. To this union 3 children were born, Christie, Susan and John.&nbsp;

Joanne worked as the Keith County Extension Office secretary for 17 years, and then worked for Quick Electric. In addition to her employment, Joanne's "favorite job" was her volunteer work at the Congregational Church Jumble Shop.&nbsp;She was a 75 year member of the Congregational Church and the PEO.&nbsp;

Joanne is survived by her husband August Duane "Swede" Ervin, of Brule, Nebraska; her children: Christie Hanson (Lyle), of Cheyenne Wyoming; Susan Ervin, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; John (Joan) Ervin, of&nbsp; Brule, Nebraska; grandchildren; Brenda (Brett) Nunemann, of Arvada, Colorado; Chad (Tara) Newport, of North Platte, Nebraska; Jason Ervin, of Austin, Texas; Rick (Julie) Metcalf, of McCook, Nebraska; Christopher (Susan) Espinoza, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Colleen Ervin (Robert Cheeseman); Brian (Rachel) Ervin, of Ogallala, Nebraska; Matt Ervin, of Brule, Nebraska; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dana Pascoe  (1945-2020)

Dorthea L. Cook was born to Vincente &amp; Mamie Lopez on August 15, 1932 in Valentine, Nebraska.&nbsp; Dorthea was called home on October 16, 2020 at Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska.&nbsp; Dort was the youngest of nine children in the Lopez family.&nbsp; She attended Valentine Elementary School and Valentine High School, graduating in 1950.

On November 21, 1966, she married James (Jim) Cook in Pierre, South Dakota.&nbsp; they had one daughter, Jodi.

Prior to her marriage, she worked many years in the County Extension Office with Harry Stokely.&nbsp; After she and Jim were married, they moved to the ranch in Brewster, Nebraska.&nbsp; Being a country girl was a huge change for Dort, with lots to learn about country living.&nbsp; In 1977, they moved back to Valentine, and Dort began working at the Cherry County Courthouse in the Treasurer's Office.&nbsp; Dort was the Deputy Treasurer until she ran for the Treasurer position in 1994.&nbsp; She served at the Cherry County Treasurer for 8 1/2 years until her retirement in 2002.

Dort was involved with the extension club in Brewster and 4-H activities.&nbsp; She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was a member of the women's church circle group.&nbsp; Dort had a love for bowling.&nbsp; She looked forward to league night and tournaments.&nbsp; She attended State Bowling for 35 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, collecting vases and Husker Football.&nbsp; But most of all, she loved spending time with her grandson, Tyler.&nbsp; She would bake cookies and other treats for him while they watched Husker Football.&nbsp; She had a special love for all her nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Jim; parents Vincente &amp; Mamie; siblings Anita, Albert, Christina, Vincente Jr, Margaret, Leon and Rita.

Survivors left to mourn her loss are her daughter, Jodi and husband Dave Sedivy; grandson Tyler; sister Josephine; sister-in-law Helen; brothers-in-law Darrell Cook and Kevin Cook; along with many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held on October 20, 2020 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine, Nebraska.&nbsp; Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Douglas Wilkinson, age 92, of Kearney, Nebraska died at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney on Saturday, October 17, 2020. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doug was born on August 23, 1928 in Rawlins County, Kansas to Jesse and Esther Wilkinson.&nbsp; He grew up in Colorado and Nebraska where he graduated from Stratton High School in 1945.&nbsp; Doug joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served on the U.S.S. Holder DD819. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Following his discharge fromthe Navy in 1947, Doug returned to Stratton, Nebraska.&nbsp; He married Dolores Damrow on Jun 5, 1949 in Benkelman, Nebraska where they lived until moving to Norht Platte, Nebraska in 1953.&nbsp; Doug managed grain elevators throughout Nebraska, then bought a place in Elba, Nebraska in 1974 where he ran a cow-calf operation and did painting and sand blasting.&nbsp; He and Dolores eventually returned to North Platte in 2004. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doug was preceded in death by his wife and parents; brothers Ellis and Leon Wilkinson; sister-in-law Marsaleen Wilkinson; brother-in-law, Fonce Brynoff; and sister-in-law Jackie and her husband Burdette Wilson. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include his children Thomas (Pattie) Wilkinson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Gary (Cindy) Wilkinson and Sherri (Ron) Morris all of Kearney, Nebraska; his sister, Twila Brynoff of North Platte, Nebraska; sister-in-law Nedra Wilkinson of Ravenna, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and other family members. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska at a later date.&nbsp; The memorial book may be signed online at odenchapel.com.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.&nbsp; Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Holder DD819. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Following his discharge fromthe Navy in 1947, Doug returned to Stratton, Nebraska.&nbsp; He married Dolores Damrow on Jun 5, 1949 in Benkelman, Nebraska where they lived until moving to Norht Platte, Nebraska in 1953.&nbsp; Doug managed grain elevators throughout Nebraska, then bought a place in Elba, Nebraska in 1974 where he ran a cow-calf operation and did painting and sand blasting.&nbsp; He and Dolores eventually returned to North Platte in 2004. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doug was preceded in death by his wife and parents; brothers Ellis and Leon Wilkinson; sister-in-law Marsaleen Wilkinson; brother-in-law, Fonce Brynoff; and sister-in-law Jackie and her husband Burdette Wilson. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include his children Thomas (Pattie) Wilkinson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Gary (Cindy) Wilkinson and Sherri (Ron) Morris all of Kearney, Nebraska; his sister, Twila Brynoff of North Platte, Nebraska; sister-in-law Nedra Wilkinson of Ravenna, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and other family members. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska at a later date.&nbsp; The memorial book may be signed online at odenchapel.com.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.&nbsp; Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Richard L. Jorgenson, age 75, of Callaway, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Callaway Good Life Center.

He was born January 31, 1945 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Marvin and Bernice (Peterson) Jorgenson. Rich lived on the family farm north of Gothenburg.

Rich graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1963. On July 12, 1964, he married Molle Headley in Cozad, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this marriage: Ward A. and Todd L.

Rich, also known as Digger by many, owned and operated Jorgenson Well Drilling for many years. He also worked at the Co-op in Callaway and Orthman Manufacturing located in Lexington. Rich farmed and enjoyed working with his cattle.

Rich was an active participant of the Callaway Community Church.

Survivors include two sons; Ward (Diane) Jorgenson of Kearney, Nebraska and Todd (Lori) Jorgenson of Bridgeton, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Lea and Hannah Jorgenson and Carly and Jenna Jorgenson; three brothers, Gary (Janice) of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Charles (Cindy), and Neil (Suzy), all of Callaway, Nebraska; as well as nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Molle.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Callaway Community Church in Callaway, Nebraska with Pastor Dean Haidle, officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. at the Callaway Community Church.

Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.

Memorials are suggested to the Callaway Community Church.

Richard L. Jorgenson  (1945-2020)

Eulalia Ochs was born December 14, 1931 to Ray and Clementina 
(Depperschmidt) Goetz. She passed away October 13, 2020 at the Gove 
County Long Term Care Facility, Quinter, KS at the age of 88.
 She married Leo Ochs on April 11, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Church in Park. 
 Rooted in her Catholic faith, “Lalia” raised her family of eight 
children - alongside her loving husband - on the family farm near Park, 
Kansas. Her love of God, family, and friends was sewn into each of her 
children as she guided them into their individual lives. She was not 
only a teacher of love and kindness but was also a great role model of 
this for her family. She will always be cherished as a patient teacher 
and sage confidante. 
 Eulalia will be remembered by all for her bright, loving eyes and 
welcoming smile. She loved welcoming visitors into her home, and would 
most often be found either whipping up a delicious meal or snuggled with
 one of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren in the rocking chair. 
She had many talents and hobbies including being a talented seamstress 
and quilter, a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to travel and 
thoroughly enjoyed the trips that she and Leo were able to take. 
 She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her quiet way of giving and supporting unselfishly will live on in our memories.

Marlon Jay Prottsman was born September 20, 1954, at Grant, Nebraska, to Wayne and Eunice (Behrens) Prottsman.&nbsp; He grew up and attended school in the Venango area, graduating from Venango High School in 1972.&nbsp; He continued his education at Mid- Plains Community College in their welding program.&nbsp; Marlon was inducted the US Navy in August of 1973, serving in the Seabees.&nbsp; After his discharge in May of 1976, he returned to the family farm south of Venango assisting his family in the farming operation.&nbsp; Marlon joined the Peace Corp which took him to Swaziland, Africa, where he served for three years.&nbsp; He then returned to Venango and bought the local bar naming it the “Swazi Bar” after his service in Africa, which he owned for ten years.&nbsp; Marlon gained employment with the U.S. Postal Service as mail carrier serving Grant and Venango for over ten years.&nbsp; He really loved his position, driving around the three counties he covered. On February 20, 2003, Marlon married Barbara Kay Jensen, in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Venango until moving to Imperial, Nebraska, in 2014. Marlon was a man who loved to meet people and to hear their stories.&nbsp; He had the most infectious laugh and smile.&nbsp; He wanted to hear stranger’s stories everywhere he went and made friends usually with a Heineken in his hand.&nbsp; Marlon was the kind of guy that would tell you exactly what he felt, and if you listened to him, he would tell you about his love for the freedom we have in America and how thankful he was for that.&nbsp; He would always listen to you and have a chuckle at the end.&nbsp; He was the type to find joy in life and enjoyed little kids (if they smiled and laughed at him, it would make his day).&nbsp; He found commonality with the tribe he served in Swaziland, during his Peace Corp years.&nbsp; He loved connecting with people and ideas. Marlon Jay Prottsman (1954-2020)

Rich Broome, age 61, of Sutherland, died unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

Rich was born April 15, 1959 and since his dad was in the military, Rich lived in many places including Alaska, Japan and Maryland, and when he was done with school he too joined the military.&nbsp; Rich served in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in action following the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon.

Following his discharge, Rich moved to Maryland, got married, had kids and sold cars. He later moved to West Virginia and North Carolina where he did landscaping then to New Mexico and eventually Nebraska where he sold cars. Rich settled in Sutherland and just recently started working at Malines Super Foods.

Rich liked fishing, shooting guns, and fireworks. On the 4th of July he liked putting on a show with the brightest and loudest fireworks he could find. Rich was proud of his service to our country and proud to be a Marine! He was also an avid Notre Dame fan who especially enjoyed chiding Nebraska fans about the rivalry.

In the last few years Rich enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend, Susan Seifer. He loved spoiling her and taking care of her, Rich would do anything for her. He also loved his grandkids, they were so special to him.

Rich is survived by his daughters, Ashley Broome (Shaun Ramey), of Sutherland and Caitlin Broome, of West Virginia; his significant other, Susan Seifer, of Sutherland, and her children, Hannah (Ryan) Bruna and Halie Fleecs, of Kearney, and Nathan Fleecs, of Ft. Brag, NC; grandchildren, Liam and Kiera Ramey; a sister and three brothers; as well as other family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;James Rudolph Brown, age 83, died peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020 in Crete, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was born on April 20, 1937 in Monroe, Nebraska to CK &amp; Bertha (Gerber) Brown.&nbsp; Jim graduated from Paxton High School in 1955.&nbsp; He married Emajo Kathryn Brown on February 24, 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jim was a member of the U.S. Army and shortly after their wedding was stationed in Germany for two years. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jim and Jo lived in Springdale, Arizona; Paxton, Nebraska; Ogallala, Nebraska; and Hershey, Nebraska; eventually retiring in Mesa, Arizona in 1996.&nbsp; Jim served on the Hershey Fire Department for 21 years and was a Lions Club member for 21 years.&nbsp; He worked at Hershey Propane, Natural Gas Distributing and KN Energy Companies for 31 years.&nbsp; Jim was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army and proudly wore his Army Veterans hat wherever he went. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He had a love for "unique" cars, Cornhusker Football, and the Denver Broncos, but most importantly, his family.&nbsp; Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.&nbsp; Together with his wife, Jo, they made sure all of their children and grandchildren had the opportunity to attend college. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jim had an artistic gift, and loved making one-of-a-kind items.&nbsp; Many family members and friends are the recipients of his rock tables, crosses and clocks, as well as his diamond willow walking sticks and lamps.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jim was a very humble and kind soul.&nbsp; He was loved deeply by his family.&nbsp; We will miss him every day, and are so thankful and blessed for the years of memories we have to cherish. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jim is survived by his children: son and daughter-in-law Jim &amp; Tami Brown of Salina, Kansas, son and daughter-in-law Jerry &amp; Terri Brown of Crete, Nebraska, daughter and son-in-law Joni and Ron Hohl of Loveland, Colorado; seven grandchildren:&nbsp; Josh (Abby) Brown, Zach (Bridget) Brown (Jim &amp; Tami); Loni (Aaron) Burd, Olivia (Neil) Hasenauer, Mitchell Brown and Max Brown (Jerry &amp; Terri); and Alex Hohl (Joni &amp; Ron); eight great-grandchildren: Cade &amp; Evie (Josh &amp; Abby); Piper, Daley, and Baylor (Zach &amp; Bridget); Dominic (Loni &amp; Aaron); Lillian &amp; Damian (Olivia &amp; Neil).&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his wife Emajo, to whom he was married for 55 years; his parents, CK &amp; Bertha; a brother, Clarence; a sister, Roberta; and one granddaughter, Amanda Kathryn Hohl. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in care of the family to be distributed to Tabitha in Crete-The Gardens and the American Heart Association. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Arrangements have been entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walker Road Church of Christ in North Platte, Nebraska.

Shirley Jean Junker, age 87, of Indianola, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 12, 2020 at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte, Nebraska. She was blessed to be able to be with her granddaughter and talk with her family in her final hours.&nbsp;

Shirley was born in Torrington, Wyoming on August 8, 1933 to Walter W.&nbsp; and Rosella Fern Day.&nbsp; Shirley grew up in McCook, Nebraska where her father worked for the railroad.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1950, Shirley married Willian (Bill) Potts of Indianola and together they raised seven children.&nbsp; They started their family in Cambridge, Nebraska and then moved to Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, and eventually back to Indianola.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1996, Shirley married Thomas Junker of Indianola.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shirley enjoyed music and frequently spoke of tap dancing and singing in her youth. She loved to talk about Jesus, her family, and her pets. Shirley regularly attended McCook Christian Church and enjoyed bringing treats to the children.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Fern Day; brother, Harold Day; sister, Elaine Potts;&nbsp;husbands, William (Bill) Potts and Thomas Junker; daughters, Linda Mustion and Diane Nash; and son-in-law, Wesley Nash.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shirley is survived by daughters, Kay (Larry) Brew of Austin, TX, Judy (Randy) Ekx of Kersey, CO, Cindy Schluckebier, of Bartley, NE; sons, Bill Potts of Kersey, CO, Walter (Judy) Potts of Stillwater, MN; and son-in-law, Richard Mustion of Hershey, NE.&nbsp; Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Candi (Bill) Burrows, Tim (Renee) Miller, Tonya (David) Nielson, Tiffany (Tyson) Dilka, Chantz (Lindsay) Nash, Jessica (David) McKay, Amanda Snide, Amanda (Michael) Daniels, Sammi Potts, Ashley (Seth) Saf, Sophie Schluckebier and 18 great-grandchildren.

Doris Shuhart of North Platte, 71, of North Platte, passed away at Centennial Park on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Doris was born in Sutherland, NE to the proud parents of Lester E and Ruth I Kissinger.&nbsp; She grew up in Rantoul, Illinois with stops in Morocco, Africa, Chelseywood, England, before settling down and graduating from Hershey High School with the class of 1967.&nbsp; Upon graduation she lived in Denver, Colorado where she went to business school.&nbsp; Life then took her to Tyler, Texas where she met Frank Shuhart, they married on October 21, 1976.&nbsp; She then went to work for the city of Tyler until she retired.&nbsp; In 2014 she moved back to North Platte to be closer to her family.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents, a sister Kathy and brother, Rick. Survivors include her daughter Sharilyn Kay-Sweet, Rapid City S.D., brother; Lester E (Shirley) Kissinger of North Platte, along with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

He spent the majority of his life as a salesman having worked with his father at the Froman Insurance Agency and various other endeavors.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 21 years, Pam, his children; Kari (Tim) Schneider, Brent (Staci) Froman, Brian (Betsy) Froman and his 5 grandchildren; Tanner, Aubrey, Brylee, Garrison and Abigail.&nbsp;&nbsp; Also included are his 2 sisters; Charlotte and Barbara and their families.

William 'Bill' E. Froman (1944-2020)

Dean Sprague, age 80, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at Centennial Park&nbsp;Retirement Village in North Platte on October 11, 2020. Dean was born to Perry and Annie Sprague in Holdrege, Nebraska on June 27, 1940.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Holdrege High School, and later from BusinessManagement Schooling. Dean met the love of his life, Carrie Combs, in Holdrege and they were united in marriage on December 1, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; While living in Kansas City, they had the first two of&nbsp; three children, Scott in Jan. 1961, and Shayne in Dec. 1963. It wasn't until 1971 when Shannon was born. Dean had a varied career, first working for his dad at his gas station and later, his dad's T.V., radio, and electrical repair shop. He would go on to work for companies such as Ronson Lighter Company, Gambles, and&nbsp;several others.&nbsp; Dean moved around during his career to such places as&nbsp;Kansas City, MO, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Aurora, CO, and finally, North Platte, NE in 1971, where he made his home for the rest of his life. While in North Platte, Dean worked as a salesman at Sears, and would later install all the chain link fence that Sears sold, which was miles of fencing.&nbsp; He also worked for the North Platte Telegraph as a rural route carrier, was a projectionist at the Fox Movie Theater, and owned and operated Platte Repair, which was in the rear of the Platte Barber Shop on Dewey Street, and later relocated to the 100 block of West 5th Street. He could repair everything that is mostly just thrown away these days, including T.V.'s, radios, blenders, shavers, can openers, lamps, and nearly anything else electrical.&nbsp; Dean later worked as an electrician in the Union Pacific Diesel Shop for 17 years, up until the mid 90's.&nbsp; He also started and operated Professional Heating &amp; A/C with his son, Shayne, from 1995-2000, after which he retired and enjoyed his time&nbsp;with his wife and family. Dean could fix just about anything and built his own house in the early 80's and remodeled several homes aside from that.&nbsp; He was a very kind hearted man that would do anything for anybody, and was always doing something for somebody.&nbsp; He was known for his great sense of humor, tremendous physical strength, and his constant teasing and harassing of just about everyone he came across.&nbsp; While at the railroad, he was infamous for his "bear hugs". He'd get his arm around your neck, pull you in, and plant a kiss on your cheek, and there wasn't much you could do about it because of his strength. In his final years, Dean was infamous for constantly passing out Lifesavers to everyone, he always ensured that his pockets were full of the candy to hand out. Dean was also a man of great faith, and he lived his life accordingly. Always a fair, honest, and just man that stood up for what he believed in and for what was right.&nbsp; He and Carrie took their daughter, Shannon, into their home during her last 6 months on earth after a long back and forth battle with cancer. They loved and cared for her until the day she died in the recliner in their living room in 2013. Neither Dean nor Carrie ever got over the loss of their beloved daughter, but they were grateful to have had that final time with her. Dean and Carrie were very much in love with each other, and if you ever saw them together, that fact was obvious and noticeable. Dean's legacy will be how he treated everybody and instilled in his children to "Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated."&nbsp; He did, indeed, live his own life in that manner.&nbsp; Dean was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Along with his daughter, Shannon, Dean was preceded in death by his father, Perry; mother, Annie; and sister, Doris Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Carrie of North Platte, NE; his sons, Scott (Cheryl) Sprague, of Jerome, ID and&nbsp;Shayne (Jessica) Sprague, of Brady, NE; former but still part of the family,daughter-in-law, Tami Sprague, of Morrison, CO; 8 grandchildren, 15&nbsp;great-grandchildren and other family. Services will be at a later date at Prairie View Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dean, Carrie, and Shannon made the decision some time ago to have their&nbsp;ashes, as well as the ashes of their beloved dogs, Buddy and Sombra,&nbsp;inurned at the same time as one Celebration of Life together. Dean met the love of his life, Carrie Combs, in Holdrege and they were united in marriage on December 1, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; While living in Kansas City, they had the first two of&nbsp; three children, Scott in Jan. 1961, and Shayne in Dec. 1963. It wasn't until 1971 when Shannon was born. Dean had a varied career, first working for his dad at his gas station and later, his dad's T.V., radio, and electrical repair shop. He would go on to work for companies such as Ronson Lighter Company, Gambles, and&nbsp;several others.&nbsp; Dean moved around during his career to such places as&nbsp;Kansas City, MO, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Aurora, CO, and finally, North Platte, NE in 1971, where he made his home for the rest of his life. While in North Platte, Dean worked as a salesman at Sears, and would later install all the chain link fence that Sears sold, which was miles of fencing.&nbsp; He also worked for the North Platte Telegraph as a rural route carrier, was a projectionist at the Fox Movie Theater, and owned and operated Platte Repair, which was in the rear of the Platte Barber Shop on Dewey Street, and later relocated to the 100 block of West 5th Street. He could repair everything that is mostly just thrown away these days, including T.V.'s, radios, blenders, shavers, can openers, lamps, and nearly anything else electrical.&nbsp; Dean later worked as an electrician in the Union Pacific Diesel Shop for 17 years, up until the mid 90's.&nbsp; He also started and operated Professional Heating &amp; A/C with his son, Shayne, from 1995-2000, after which he retired and enjoyed his time&nbsp;with his wife and family. Dean could fix just about anything and built his own house in the early 80's and remodeled several homes aside from that.&nbsp; He was a very kind hearted man that would do anything for anybody, and was always doing something for somebody.&nbsp; He was known for his great sense of humor, tremendous physical strength, and his constant teasing and harassing of just about everyone he came across.&nbsp; While at the railroad, he was infamous for his "bear hugs". He'd get his arm around your neck, pull you in, and plant a kiss on your cheek, and there wasn't much you could do about it because of his strength. In his final years, Dean was infamous for constantly passing out Lifesavers to everyone, he always ensured that his pockets were full of the candy to hand out. Dean was also a man of great faith, and he lived his life accordingly. Always a fair, honest, and just man that stood up for what he believed in and for what was right.&nbsp; He and Carrie took their daughter, Shannon, into their home during her last 6 months on earth after a long back and forth battle with cancer. They loved and cared for her until the day she died in the recliner in their living room in 2013. Neither Dean nor Carrie ever got over the loss of their beloved daughter, but they were grateful to have had that final time with her. Dean and Carrie were very much in love with each other, and if you ever saw them together, that fact was obvious and noticeable. Dean's legacy will be how he treated everybody and instilled in his children to "Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated."&nbsp; He did, indeed, live his own life in that manner.&nbsp; Dean was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Along with his daughter, Shannon, Dean was preceded in death by his father, Perry; mother, Annie; and sister, Doris Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Carrie of North Platte, NE; his sons, Scott (Cheryl) Sprague, of Jerome, ID and&nbsp;Shayne (Jessica) Sprague, of Brady, NE; former but still part of the family,daughter-in-law, Tami Sprague, of Morrison, CO; 8 grandchildren, 15&nbsp;great-grandchildren and other family. Services will be at a later date at Prairie View Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dean, Carrie, and Shannon made the decision some time ago to have their&nbsp;ashes, as well as the ashes of their beloved dogs, Buddy and Sombra,&nbsp;inurned at the same time as one Celebration of Life together. Kelly Lynn Boyer, age 57, of North Platte, Nebraska died at home October 12, 2020. Kelly was born to Jimmy and Kay (Trumbull) Boyer on August 19, 1963, at North Platte where he grew up.&nbsp; Following his high school graduation, Kelly joined the U.S. Marine Corp.&nbsp; After receiving a medical discharge, he returned to North Platte and worked in maintenance for Sands Motor Inn.&nbsp; Kelly was later in charge of helping build the Oak Tree Inn then did flooring work, laying carpet, tile and wood.&nbsp; He continued working until he became disabled and had to quit. Kelly was an outdoors man.&nbsp; At the age of 2, he started hunting with his dad and that became a lifelong experience which he loved.&nbsp; Along with hunting, Kelly liked fishing and trapping and always had a dog around.&nbsp; He also liked teaching people how to tile and enjoyed going to rehab. He was preceded in death by his dad, Jim; grandparents, Douglas and Henrietta Trumbull and Gerald and Mildred Boyer; aunt, Pat Barnum; and&nbsp;uncles, Buz and Tim Boyer. &nbsp;Gertrude Mae Stewart, of North Platte, died at the Ogallala Hospital on &nbsp;October 13, 2020, which was her 96th birthday. Gertrude was born at North Platte, Nebraska to Louis and Bertha (Williams) Bayne&nbsp;on October 13, 1924, and grew up south of Stapleton, Nebraska. After graduating&nbsp;from Stapleton High School, Gertrude attended Kearney Normal School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught at several country schools in different communities. On August 8, 1948, Gertrude was united in marriage to Lawrence Harold Stewart at her parents home and the couple made their home on the ranch.&nbsp; Gertrude was a ranch wife all her life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Gertrude enjoyed sewing&nbsp;and when the kids were young, she made their clothes. She sewed at the&nbsp;church on Tuesdays, making many quilts.&nbsp; She also enjoyed art club, and helping with the Nebraskaland Days Art Show for many years.&nbsp; Gertrude&nbsp;was also active in 4-H as a leader and spent many years helping at the fair. Gertrude had a good, long life and leaves behind her sons, James (Linda) Stewart, of North Platte, Nebraska, Roger (Ronda) Stewart, of Dunning, Nebreaska and Forrest&nbsp;(Cindy) Stewart, of Cody, Nebraska; daughters, Laura Stewart, of North Platte, and&nbsp;Verlaine Stewart, of El Paso, TX; sisters, Norine Stewart, of McCook, Nebraska,&nbsp;Luetta Millheim, of Hickman, Nebraska and Bertha Thomas, of North Platte; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 9 great great-grandchildren, and&nbsp;other family.
