Wilber L. Kuenning of Imperial, Nebraska passed away on October 9, 2020 from Coronavirus. He was born February 18, 1922 in Unadilla, Nebraska to Oscar &amp; Myrtle Kuenning. The fifth of 12 children, he was raised by a single mother. He started working for wages at the age of 10, always giving a portion of his earnings to his mother. He married Doris E. Schroeder of Grant, Nebraska on November 22, 1944. He would often tell that he moved to Southwest Nebraska with $35 in his pocket. Wilber &amp; Doris started married life renting a farm from Frank &amp; Bertha Osler at Elsie, Nebraska. In 1953, Wilber &amp; Doris purchased a farm 12 miles north of Imperial, Nebraska still referred to as the “home place.” He &amp; Doris worked hard to manage diversified crops, a feed-lot, &amp; a cow-calf herd. Wilber was proud to be a rancher and a farmer and was proud of what the Sandhills could produce. He thought being a farmer &amp; rancher was the best job in the world! He loved the wide-open spaces and educated himself by being a careful observer of nature. He retired from farming in 1987 when he &amp; Doris moved to a house on Douglas St in Imperial, but continued driving out to the farm every day, spending many hours doing what he loved &amp; often getting himself in trouble with his wife who wanted him to spend more time with her at their home in Imperial! He always knew what was going on at the farm &amp; what everyone was doing. Even when he was in the COVID unit in the Grant hospital, he had a conversation with son Jerry to find out what was going on at the farm. Wilber and Doris moved to an assisted living apartment in the Imperial Parkview Heights in 2006, when Doris needed Alzheimer’s care. Before the COVID quarantine, it was sometimes difficult to find a time to talk with him; if he was in the middle of playing a game of cards, bingo, Yahtzee or another activity, he would seldom answer his phone. He continued to reside in the same assisted living apartment until he tested positive for the Coronavirus in early October and was transported to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant, Nebraska. He greatly appreciated the care he received from his caregivers at Imperial Heights. Wilber helped build the new United Methodist Churches in both Grant &amp; Imperial. He could donate either money or labor, and because of lean times, he chose to donate his labor. Religion was important in his life, he recently received a 60 year membership pin and this year was recognized as the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church in Imperial. Wilber held several offices of the Lone Star, District #24 school board, including board president the year the school closed &amp; consolidated with Imperial Schools. He served on the boards of the Chase County Soil Conservation Service, testifying to the Nebraska State Legislature the importance of keeping the Upper &amp; Lower Republican Rivers as separate water districts. He was also on the boards of the United Methodist Church, Federal Land Bank &amp; the Rural Fire Dept. Always a promoter of 4-H &amp; FFA, he received the Chase County Friends of 4-H Award and was awarded Honorary Memberships by both the Imperial &amp; Nebraska FFA Chapters. He entered the Nebraska Corn Husking Competition several years &amp; the last year would have been a champion but he entered himself in the wrong age category! Wilber loved the Chase County Fair, and he spent hours attending various events and visiting with acquaintances, young and old. Over the years, he enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren &amp; especially his great grandchildren show livestock. He proudly participated in the Chase County Fair parades 3 different years, driving a restored International Regulator, riding his 3-wheel tricycle, &amp; driving his first new tractor, a restored 1945 Model M, accompanied by his grandchildren and/or great grandchildren. Dancing was another favorite activity of Wilber’s; continuing the family tradition, when the last granddaughter, Kelly, was married in July he was surrounded by the bride, daughters, daughter-in-law, granddaughters &amp; great granddaughters, bringing tears to the eyes of many. He was a member of a neighborhood card club for over 60 years. Family, immediate and extended, were very important to Wilber. He enjoyed his grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren &amp; was quick to tell them how proud he was of them.

One of his greatest strengths was his positive attitude. During the lean years, due to drought, hail, or crop disease he would say, “we’ll find a way to make it work”. Perhaps because of his 8th grade education, another often quoted saying was, “get an education, it’s something they can never take away from you."&nbsp; Those who knew Wilber would describe him as honest, hard-working, humble, and kind; he saw the positive in everyone and in most situations. Steven Lee Weaver, age 30, of McCook, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 8, 2020 in rural Indianola, Nebraska.

Steven was born October 12, 1989 in Cambridge, Nebraska to parents Kenneth L&nbsp;&nbsp;Weaver, Sr. and Michelle “Shelly” (Manzer) Adams.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was one of six children.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On May 18, 2012, Steven married Tai-Lynn M. (Rae) Weaver.&nbsp;&nbsp;Steven became a step father to son Nicklas Thomas and together with Tai, he was blessed with two daughters, Evylynn and Mia.

Steven had recently begun a tree removal service, KW and Son’s Tree Service, with his father, Ken. In his free time, Steven enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his jeep.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had a love of travel which included hill climbing in the mountains.&nbsp;&nbsp;Steven attended the Red Willow Cowboy Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Tai Weaver and children, Nicklas Thomas and Evylynn and Mia Weaver, all of McCook; father, Kenneth Weaver, Sr. of Overton, NE; mother, Shelly Adams of McCook; brothers, Kenneth (Jess) Weaver, Jr of Cambridge, NE and Kaden Weaver of Overton; sisters, Deatta Weaver of Ogallala, NE, Courtney (AJ) Hettinger of Hastings, NE and Mackenzie Weaver of Denver, CO; maternal grandparents, Jack Manzer of Omaha, NE and Anita Hansen of McCook; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and extended family members.

Donald (Don) Eyten, age 82, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on October 11, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 3, 1938 to Jacob and Reka (Burken) Eyten in Hastings, Nebraska.

Don was united in marriage to Leona Burch on May 24, 1959 in North Platte, Nebraska. To this union, a daughter, Christine, was born.&nbsp; The couple lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and returned to North Platte four years ago.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Leona; daughter, Christine (Vern) Boone; grandchildren, Tracy Helvie, Hastings, NE, Melissa (Dan) Shults of North Platte, NE, Floyd Helvie Jr. (Kimberly) of North Platte, NE: six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Angelia Hagan of North Platte, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister-in-law’s, Gerhard and Jannie Eyten , Raymond and Joyce Eyten and sister, Margie Eyten.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Douglas Delp officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, 1616 West B Street in North Platte.

Lydia Sisneros  (1930-2020)

James Edward Kaspari, age 83, of Sutherland, Nebraska passed away October 6, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

He was born in York, Nebraska on July 16, 1937 to Louis Vincent and Helen Marie Kaspari. He attended country school and St. Joseph High School. After graduation he worked with his dad on their farm and in 1955 began employment with Geis Irrigation in Nebraska and Kansas.

Jim was drafted into the Army in 1961 and after basic training; he attended Fort Holabird Intelligence School in Baltimore and later served in the 702nd Intelligence Corps, 3rd&nbsp;Army until his discharge in 1963.

He returned to his employment with Geis and worked in sales and management at several of their locations for 30 years. Jim’s last employment before he retired in 2013 was with Titan Industries as operations manager at their Paxton, Nebraska location where he worked for 21 years.

In 1994, Jim married Pearl Brady. They made their home in Sutherland.

He is survived by his wife Pearl of Sutherland; 2 sisters, Rita Owens of McPherson, KS and Dorothy (Steve) Ulrey of Houston, TX; Jim’s closest nephew, Jeff Owens of Denver, CO; and numerous nephew’s and nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard; and brother in law, Johnny Owens.

Burial of ashes will be 9:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska with Full Military Honors. Memorial Services will be 11:00a.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Lee officiating. A book signing will be on Thursday, October 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 </figure>James Edward Kaspari, age 83, of Sutherland, Nebraska passed away October 6, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.He was born in York, Nebraska on July 16, 1937 to Louis Vincent and Helen Marie Kaspari. He attended country school and St. Joseph High School. After graduation he worked with his dad on their farm and in 1955 began employment with Geis Irrigation in Nebraska and Kansas.Jim was drafted into the Army in 1961 and after basic training; he attended Fort Holabird Intelligence School in Baltimore and later served in the 702nd Intelligence Corps, 3rd&nbsp;Army until his discharge in 1963.He returned to his employment with Geis and worked in sales and management at several of their locations for 30 years. Jim’s last employment before he retired in 2013 was with Titan Industries as operations manager at their Paxton, Nebraska location where he worked for 21 years.In 1994, Jim married Pearl Brady. They made their home in Sutherland.He is survived by his wife Pearl of Sutherland; 2 sisters, Rita Owens of McPherson, KS and Dorothy (Steve) Ulrey of Houston, TX; Jim’s closest nephew, Jeff Owens of Denver, CO; and numerous nephew’s and nieces.Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard; and brother in law, Johnny Owens.Burial of ashes will be 9:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska with Full Military Honors. James Edward 'Jim' Kaspari  (1937-2020)

George Deertz, Jr., age 87, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health in North Platte on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

George was born to George, Sr. and Mary Deertz on December 19, 1932, at Dupree, South Dakota. The family later moved to Nebraska where George graduated from Grand Island High School in 1950.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in ‘56, George returned to Nebraska and moved to North Platte in 1957. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years until retiring in 1984.

George was married and blessed with three children, Neil, Keven and Laurie. His second marriage was to Opal Brue in 1986. They were together for nearly 30 years when she died.

George was a member of Masonic Lodge #33 in Grand Island and Platte Valley Lodge #32 AF&amp;AM in North Platte.

He is survived by his children, Neil (Brenda) Deertz, of North Platte and Keven (Heather) Deertz, of San Diego, CA; sister, Theodora (Leo) Oltman, of Belleville, KS; grandsons, David and Ryan Deertz; and other family.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; daughter, Laurie Deertz; parents, George, Sr. and Mary; brother, Duane; and sister, Coleen Smith.

Graveside service with military honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. George Deertz, Jr.  (1932-2020)

Marilyn Mae Gugelman of Stockville, Nebraska passed away from cancer on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was 88 years young.

Marilyn was born on July 29, 1932 to Clarence and Grace (Wilson) Woodring.&nbsp; Marilyn, along with her older siblings, Marvin and Merna, was raised on a farm north of Stockville on the edge of the Medicine Creek.&nbsp; They rode the family horse to school and had a great time on the banks of the creek if it wasn’t flooding.&nbsp; Then they had several close calls.

Marilyn graduated in 1949 at the age of 16 from Stockville High School.&nbsp; She then attended Kearney Normal Summer School and Marilyn began her teaching career at a country grade school near where her current farm home is, at the ripe old age of 18.

Marilyn married Donald Dale Gugelman at the Stockville Courthouse on May 24th, 1953. They moved to the Gottlieb Gugelman farmstead and began their lifelong journey of farming and loving and raising all kinds of different animals and poultry. They soon started their family of human children and continued for 18 years until they had a houseful of five.&nbsp; They were very concerned and caring of all children, so some holidays they would have many extra children in the house.&nbsp; Marilyn just stretched the table out and added more plates.

Marilyn was a jack of all trades, and did a lot of the home repair, driving tractors, doctoring animals and children or whatever needed doing.&nbsp; She especially loved her big gardens, flowers and trees.&nbsp; She nursed many birds and wild animals back to health.&nbsp; Marilyn devoted most of her time to her home and family, but still had time to teach a couple years after she had children and worked briefly at the Stockville Courthouse.

Marilyn spent all her life volunteering.&nbsp; She was a member of the Stockville Congregational Church and Fellowship Group, Bible Study, Stockville Women’s Club, Hobby Club, and Friendship Circle Card Club.&nbsp; In her younger years she was very active in 4-H as a leader and 4-H judge at the county fair.&nbsp; She spent each year planning her exhibits for the fair so there would be lots of crafts, canning and gardening exhibits for people to see. Her baby quilts even made it in 2020 in spite of her health and Covid-19.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Gugelman; her much loved older sister, Merna Schleeman; and her grandson-in-law, Rob Brown; as well as her older brother, Marvin Woodring, passed away two hours after Marilyn did.

Surviving Marilyn are her daughters, Cheryl and husband Tim Teel, Deb and husband Mark Shirley, Teresa and husband Tracy Gardner; sons, Marty and wife Christy Gugelman and Steven Gugelman.&nbsp; He grandchildren include Tiffany and Jay Waldron, Laura and Alex Pollack, Casey and Jamie Gugelman, Josh Shirley, Kendra and Zach Robinson, Brett and Megan Teel, Jordan Gardner and Sierra Kurth, Colyn, Noah, and Brodee Gugelman, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her passing will leave a huge hole in her family and community.&nbsp;

Marilyn Mae Gugelman  (1932-2020)

Vernon F. Meyerott, 96, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Johnson Lake, Nebraska,&nbsp; passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Millard, Nebraska.

He was born on December 8, 1923 in Coleridge, Nebraska to John and Theresa (Laufer) Meyerott. Vernon received his education from Coleridge Public Schools, graduating from Coleridge High School with the class of 1941.

Following his education, Vernon was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during WWII with the Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946.&nbsp; He engaged in the Battle of the Bulge Conflict, earning two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.&nbsp; Vernon was honorably discharged in 1946.&nbsp; He was also honored in 2019 with a Quilt of Valor.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Beuck in 1947 and was blessed with his only son, Alan. Evelyn passed away in 1988.

While living at Johnson Lake near Lexington, Nebraska, Vernon owned and operated Meyerott Refrigeration. He served as a District Commander of the VFW, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church at Smithfield, Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to LaVonne (Orr) in 2006 and they made their home in Seward, Nebraska. After a stroke with declining health, he’s resided at Good Samaritan Society in Millard since 2017, until his death.

Vernon his survived by his wife, LaVonne of Seward, Nebraska; his son, Alan (Karen) Meyerott of Gretna, Nebrasak;&nbsp; and four adult step-children, Ron Orr, Retha (Orr) Saathoff, Lori (Orr) Blum and Mary (Orr) Hetrick.

He was preceded in death by his previous wives, Evelyn (Beuck), Doreen (Wilke) and Ruby (Linder), five brothers and one sister; a step-daughter and his only grandchild, Scott Meyerott.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Daniel Landin, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Hope Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Vernon F. Meyerott  (1923-2020)

Vicki Ann Sentelle, age 53, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at CHI Good Health Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Vicki was born December 27, 1966 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Judith and William Sentelle. In 1976 the family moved to Elwood, Nebraska where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1984. After graduation she attended McCook Community College where she earned an Associates Degree in Journalism. The family moved to Lexington, Nebraska in 1985.

She was employed by Reach Electronics, Walmart, Plum Creek Medical and then returned to Walmart where she worked for the last twenty years.

Vicki loved sports, especially the Washington Redskins, playing pool, softball, gaming, photography and most of all being with family. She was especially proud of her daughter, Morgan and everything she has achieved in Music.

Vicki donated her organs and tissue to Live On Nebraska to help others that are in need.

Survivors include her mother, Judy Sentelle of Lexington; daughter, Morgan Sentelle and wife Kelsey Krieger of Holdrege, Nebraska; two brothers: Jerry (Lee) Sentelle of Kearney, Nebraska and Greg (Heather) Sentelle of Lexington, Nebraska; one sister, Debbie Sentelle of Lexington, Nebraska; and grandmother Ruth Sentelle. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Stacey (Ikrom) Artikov and sons Aiden and Isaac, Jessica (Scott) Ennen, Shantel (DJ) Miles, Tyrene (Christian) Hisey, Christopher Pooschke, Dalton Wamsley and daughters Zoie and Aria, Ethan Smith, Evan Smith, Sara Hecht, Richie Hecht, Amber Hecht, Jama Morrison, William Sentelle; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Vicki Ann Sentelle  (1966-2020)

Esther Ann Einspahr was born June 13, 1929, at Wauneta, Nebraska, to Otis J. and Clara M. (Ditton) Knotwell.&nbsp; As a youngster, Esther was baptized on April 5, 1942, at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta. She grew up and attended school in Wauneta, graduating from Wauneta High School in 1946. On August 20, 1950, Esther married Rodney D. Einspahr, at St Paul Lutheran Church of rural Wauneta, Nebraska. She was also confirmed at St Paul’s on January 30, 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple settled and farmed on the south divide until 1977, when they moved into Wauneta to make their home. Esther moved into the Imperial Heights in the winter of 2010 and later to the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in 2016. Esther not only was a homemaker and assisted on the farm, but was employed at Enders State Bank in Enders, Nebraska and Imperial, Nebraska for 30 years. She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church, participating in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the St Paul Choir, the Ladies Aid Group, and taught Sunday school and sponsored the St. Paul’s Walther League with Rodney. Esther was also a member of the Nebraska Chapter of the National Financial Women’s Organization. She enjoyed reading, visiting with neighbors and friends, playing golf, crocheting, and quilting. Esther was involved in sewing and instructing the craft with the local 4-H group. She especially loved to watch her grandchildren participate in sporting, musicals, or drama events. Esther passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Esther was 91 years of age.  </figure>Esther Ann Einspahr was born June 13, 1929, at Wauneta, Nebraska, to Otis J. and Clara M. (Ditton) Knotwell.&nbsp; As a youngster, Esther was baptized on April 5, 1942, at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta. She grew up and attended school in Wauneta, graduating from Wauneta High School in 1946. On August 20, 1950, Esther married Rodney D. Einspahr, at St Paul Lutheran Church of rural Wauneta, Nebraska. She was also confirmed at St Paul’s on January 30, 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple settled and farmed on the south divide until 1977, when they moved into Wauneta to make their home. Esther moved into the Imperial Heights in the winter of 2010 and later to the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in 2016. Esther not only was a homemaker and assisted on the farm, but was employed at Enders State Bank in Enders, Nebraska and Imperial, Nebraska for 30 years. She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church, participating in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the St Paul Choir, the Ladies Aid Group, and taught Sunday school and sponsored the St. Paul’s Walther League with Rodney. Esther was also a member of the Nebraska Chapter of the National Financial Women’s Organization. She enjoyed reading, visiting with neighbors and friends, playing golf, crocheting, and quilting. Esther was involved in sewing and instructing the craft with the local 4-H group. She especially loved to watch her grandchildren participate in sporting, musicals, or drama events. Esther passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Esther was 91 years of age. Esther Ann Einspahr  (1929-2020)

Gordon William McLeod of Thedford, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at his home on the ranch.

Gordon William McLeod was born June 16,1948 to Phil and Barbara (McLean) McLeod.&nbsp; Gordon attended two elementary schools, Cherry County #31 at Hanna’s and #105 at Sears. He attended Valentine High School in Valentine, Nebraska for the first two years, then graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE in 1966.&nbsp; In the fall of 1966, he enrolled in Northeast Community College at Norfolk, NE on a basketball scholarship.&nbsp; In June of 1968 he enlisted in the Army.&nbsp; He served as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany.&nbsp; In November of 1969 he received an honorable discharge after his father suffered a heart attack.&nbsp; Gordon returned home to help manage the family ranch.

In May of 1976 Gordon entered the Hazelton Alcoholism Treatment Program in Center City, Minnesota.&nbsp; This experience changed his life and set him on a path of recovery “one day at a time”.&nbsp; On June 26,1982 Gordon married Diane Rogers, and to this union five children were born. 

Gordon is survived by his wife, Diane, and children:&nbsp; Michelle (Brandon) Olstad, Nicole (Bret) Huber, Michael (Brittany) McLeod, Matthew, and Luke McLeod; his grandchildren:&nbsp; Gabrielle, Titus, and Amaris Olstad; Jack. Aspen, Sage, Cannon, and Archer Huber; Carter Anderson, Malechi, Isabelle, and Liam McLeod.

William “Bill” James Gumb, age 90 of Sargent, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at his home in Sargent.

Bill was born September 11, 1930 in Holt County, Nebraska to Clarence William and Daisy Mildred (Palmer) Gumb.

He married Darlene Hughes, the love of his life, on May 6, 1949 in Burwell, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Steve, Dianne, Mona, and Billy.&nbsp; Bill and Darlene worked at many ranches in the Sandhills.&nbsp;

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his son Steve; parents Clarence and Daisy Gumb; in-laws Emmett and Mona Hughes; grandsons, Ryan Peterson and Jarrod Holmes; one brother and four sisters.

Bill is survived by daughters Dianne Patterson of Missouri, Mona (Neil) Davidson of Milburn, Nebraska, and his son Billy (Debbie) Gumb of Sargent; grandchildren Stephanie Carpenter, Tyler (Christie) Gumb, Michelle (Jeff) Barnhill, Dusty (Angie) Gumb, Friday (Paul Bracher, David Holmes, Jacy (Joe) Mahar, Justin (Amy) Patterson, Jake (Natalie) Patterson, Amber (Jason) Lamb, Steven Gumb, Heath (Kristi) Gumb, Trace Gumb, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

William "Bill" James Gumb  (1930-2020)

Rodney D. Kostman of Cozad, Nebraska passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 72. Rod was born August 28, 1948 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Emil and Mae (Houchin) Kostman. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1966 and started work&nbsp;that very day&nbsp;at Monroe Auto&nbsp;and was employed there&nbsp;until the plant closed. When he was younger, Rod would go to work with his father on Joe Allen's farm to harvest, swath and put up hay. He also helped take Allen's Belgian horses to the State Fair.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rod lived in Eustis, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Cozad. 

On September 3, 1982 he married Jacqueline Stott. 

Rod enjoyed hunting, walking canals, camping and anything to do with guns and hunting. He loved spending time camping and vacationing with his family. Rod was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and had a special place in his heart for his dogs.&nbsp;

Rod was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernita Royer, Virginia Buss; niece, Judy Rhodearmer; nephew, Jon Buss; and granddaughter, Ava. 

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Kostman of Cozad; children, Brian (Melanie)&nbsp;Tate&nbsp;of Kennard, NE, Kellie (Mark)&nbsp;Stutterheim&nbsp;of Eustis, LaNona (Mark) Oberg of Gothenburg, NE, Jeremy (Jennifer) Rinehart of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Ostergard, Connor Tate, Huntyr Stutterheim, Logan Tate, Amaya Snell, Morton Oberg, Marin Oberg, Kinley Oberg, Jackson Rinehart and Jonah Rinehart; and 1 great grandchild, Blakelyee Peterson.

Rodney Dean Kostman  (1948-2020)

Eleanor Jane (Lowenthal) Fasse passed quietly into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 7, 2020, at the age 95 in the home of her daughter, Janine Yurka, Broomfield, Colorado.

Eleanor and her twin brother, Alfred Jr., were born to Alfred and Gladys (Hedberg) Lowenthal on December 14, 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut. Her childhood was spent in East Haven, CT, enjoying her passion for reading and playing on the beaches of Long Island Sound during the summer, a short trolley ride from her home. She graduated from East Haven High School in 1942, where she participated in track and volleyball. It was just prior to her Junior year at New Haven Teachers College that she met her future husband at the wedding of her brother, Alfred, in Hays, Kansas, on August 1, 1946. Following the wedding, Ed Fasse took her back to the hotel and shook her hand “good night.” She then awakened her parents to tell them that “Ed Fasse is going to ask me to marry him.” Ed and Eleanor were joined in marriage at the Old Stone Congregational Church in East Haven, CT, on December 28, 1946.

A city girl now moved to a farm south of Cozad, Nebraska, but the most significant change in her life occurred as a 22 year-old when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior after attending an evangelistic meeting. Eleanor’s new faith in God was discipled initially by the radio program, Back to the Bible, from Lincoln, NE, whereby she studied the Scriptures daily to see if the things she was hearing were true, the testimony of the church at Berea from Acts 17:11. The Berean Church in Lexington, NE, was her source of Christian community and fellowship for over 60 years.

Eleanor worked alongside her husband on the farm and in their business, Ed Fasse Building &amp; and Supply, while rearing 6 children. After the death of her beloved husband, Ed, in 1985, she asked the Lord, “What am I to do now?”&nbsp; Eleanor served for 25 years as a volunteer at Maranatha Bible Camp in the Sweet Shop, living in the cottage on the campground that she and Ed had built in the early 1970’s. The last 3 years of her life were spent in the home of her daughter, Janine, and son-in-law, Paul Yurka. The booklet,&nbsp;The Daily Bread, was part of her morning devotional reading, which she sent faithfully to many family members and friends over the years.&nbsp; Family looked forward to their birthday and anniversary cards from her, which always contained the coveted personal note.

Those left to carry on her legacy are: Andrea (Lon) Matz of Madison, WI,; Mark Fasse of Kearney, NE; Scott (Kim) Fasse, Elkhorn, NE; Greg (Sheryl) Fasse of Roswell, GA; Janine (Paul) Yurka of Broomfield, CO; Laurel (Dave) Wolfe of North Tustin, CA; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.

Eleanor Jane Fasse  (1924-2020)

Duane Wilson, age 91, of Arthur, Nebraska passed away&nbsp; Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;Duane was born February 3, 1929 to Peter Bradley and Harriett (Martin) Wilson.&nbsp;

Duane was raised on the family ranch in Arthur County, graduating from Arthur County High School in 1946.

Duane and Doris Johnson were married on July 8, 1951. They raised five children on the family ranch, celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary this past July. Duane's top priority has always been his family. He enjoyed rodeo, competing in bull riding, team roping and calf roping. Duane was a member of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association for many years.&nbsp;

In 2012, Duane was inducted into the Nebraska Cowboy Hall of Fame, the same year he was awarded Arthur County Rancher of the Year. His strength, knowledge, kind heart and discernment of right and wrong was evident to all who knew him.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley and Harriett Wilson; brother-in-law Garnet Hartman; and great-grandson, Keighton Farrenkopf.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Duane is survived by his wife, Doris; 2 sons, Kelly Wilson; Brad (Ainslie) Wilson, all of Arthur; 3 daughters; Deborah (George) Chikos of Bridgeport, Nebraska; Connie (Jack) Parker of Lisco, Nebraska; Patty Wilson (Fred Schlickbernd) of Stapleton, Nebraska; 1 sister, Barbara Hartman, of Arthur; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

They raised five children on the family ranch, celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary this past July. Duane's top priority has always been his family. He enjoyed rodeo, competing in bull riding, team roping and calf roping. Duane was a member of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association for many years.&nbsp;In 2012, Duane was inducted into the Nebraska Cowboy Hall of Fame, the same year he was awarded Arthur County Rancher of the Year. Duane Wilson  (1929-2020)

Cynthia Jean (Skaritka) Larson, age 69, of McCook, NE passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at her home in McCook.

Cindy was born February 21, 1951 in North Brunswick, New Jersey to parents Paul and Ruth (Outcalt) Skaritka. She was one of two children.&nbsp; Cindy attended school in California, graduating from Santa Maria High School with the Class of 1969.&nbsp; She went on to further her education by attending Allen Hancock College and in 1996, she graduated from nursing school and became an L.P.N.&nbsp;

Cindy’s children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.&nbsp; She always carried balloons in her purse for the grandkids and loved to play “bop the balloon”.&nbsp; Cindy enjoyed camping, fishing, singing and dancing, especially to the oldies, and found peace walking through cemeteries.&nbsp; She was an avid reader who loved to read the National Enquirer. Cindy spent many years as a single mom and was very proud of the daughters she raised.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On November 7, 2013 Cindy married Jerry Larson in Trenton, NE.&nbsp; The couple made their home in McCook.&nbsp;

Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Paul Skaritka; and her mother and stepfather, Ruth (Lewis) Denney; and two stepmothers, Caye Skaritka and Goldie Skaritka.

Doris Mae Andersen, 93 of Wallace, passed away on October 6, 2020. Doris was born March 6, 1927, on the family farm north of Nelson, Nebraska, to Emma and Rine Oltmans. She attended country school for eight years, graduating from Nelson High School and receiving a normal training teaching certificate. Doris returned to the same one-room schoolhouse she learned in, this time as the teacher, for two years. Doris later attended McCook College and graduated from Kearney State College in 1972. She was an educator for twenty-five years. Doris married Henry Andersen on December 7, 1945, at Nelson, NE. The couple made their home in Davenport, Nebraska, later moving to Wallace, Nebraska in 1949, the year of the bad blizzard. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a lifelong member of the Wallace Community Players and Wallace Quilt Clubs. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; two brothers, Glenn and Marvin; two sisters, Esther and Corrinne; five brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and two grand-nephews. Survivors include her son, David Andersen of Wallace; daughter, Sara (Dennis) Miller of North Platte; grandchildren, Joni, Jeff (Necole), Angie (Derek); five great-grandsons, Dillon, Payton, Coy, Westin, Hudsen; and two great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Jaylyn. Marvin Wesley Woodring passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was 91 years old. Marvin Wesley Woodring was born on April 2, 1929 to Clarence and Grace (Wilson) Woodring on the family farm along the Medicine Creek outside of Stockville, NE. &nbsp;He was the oldest of the Woodring children. He was followed by two sisters, Merna in 1930 and Marilyn in 1932. &nbsp;They rode the family horse to school and had a great time on the banks of the creek. Marvin attended country schools both at District#76 and District #56 before graduating from Stockville High School. &nbsp;He was a true farm kid riding horses, helping with chores and getting his hands dirty fixing things, which helped him out for years to come. He married Barbara Nutt on January 14, 1951 in Curtis, Nebraska at the Congregational Church. &nbsp;The couple made their home on a farm east of Stockville to raise their five children Donald Wesley, Lynda Jean, Dale Alan, Beverly Ann and Connie Jo. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 1, 1951 and was sent to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. &nbsp;After basic training Marvin was sent to the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator and later a mechanic supervisor. &nbsp;His job was building tropical huts for the Chinese prisoners on an island off the coast of Korea.&nbsp; Marvin was honorably discharged on April 1, 1953. When Marvin returned from the service, he and his family&nbsp; made their home on the farm along the creek which had been the home of many Woodring generations. &nbsp;In 1959 he was running the garage in Stockville until 1963 when he went to work for the Frontier County Road Department, which would last the next 40 years retiring in the spring of 2003. The family moved to the Woodring family farm in 1964 and Marvin would remain there until 2018 when his health declined and he moved to Stockville to live with his son and daughter-in-law. Marvin enjoyed the time he spent fishing whenever and wherever he could. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper, his computer, camping, going to auctions and family gatherings. &nbsp;He was a member of the Historical Society in Curtis for many years. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Merna Schleeman and Marilyn Gugelman, who passed away two hours before Marvin; two brother in laws Don Gugelman and Darwin Schleeman; six grandchildren, Keela, Jody, James Jr. Holmberg, Brenda, Phillip and Kolby Woodring; and one great grandson Blake Woodring. He is survived by his children, Donnie and Bonnie Woodring of Moorefield, Lynda and Phil Molzahn of Kennsington, KS, Dale and Sharlene Woodring of Stockville, Beverly and Gary Kreis of Grant, NE and Connie Woodring of Media, PA; 10 grandchildren: Jeremy, Stacey, Lisa, Amy, Jason, Sheila, Kyle, Kipp, Daphne and Shawn; 30 great grandchildren; two great- great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Marvin Wesley Woodring  (1929-2020)

Doris R. Saulsbury, age 88, of North Platte, Nebraska died October 9, 2020 at Linden Court in North Platte.&nbsp; She was born March 10, 1932 in Clifton, Illinois to James and Susan Catherine (Elbert) Leggott.&nbsp;

Doris graduated from Elwood High School in 1950.&nbsp; She worked as a telephone operator in Lexington, Nebraska and was privy to many phone conversations.&nbsp; On May 23, 1953, she married Charles Edward Saulsbury at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.&nbsp; After Ed’s discharge from the military, they moved to North Platte, NE in 1958.&nbsp; After having 4 children in 5 years, Doris returned to the workplace.&nbsp; Doris worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, then was a secretary for J.M. McDonalds store for several years.&nbsp; Doris later returned to the ASCS and retiring as a program technician.&nbsp; After retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart for several years.&nbsp;

Doris was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, being on the funeral dinner committee for years, the FN Klinkers Reunion Camping Club, and Friday Nighters Club, also was a volunteer for RSVP.

Doris will be remembered as a wonderful mother, devoting her life to her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her husband Ed, joining him in all of his adventures.&nbsp; She was always a constant fan at all of her family’s events.

Survivors include her four children, Michael (Pat) Saulsbury of Weimar, TX, Patricia (Joe) Snyder of Perry, IA, Kevin (Cori) Saulsbury of Thorton, CO, and Mary (Doug) Haney of North Platte; siblings, Alice Jean Dreher of Lexington, and Donald (Alice) Leggott of Kearney; four sister-in-laws, Jean McTygue of Kearney, Gerda Saulsbury of Lexington, Leigh Saulsbury of Colorado Springs, and Nadia Saulsbury of Washington; nine grandchildren, Mandy (Chris) Gibson of Groves, TX, Nicholas (Kristy) Bryant of North Platte, Kyle (Sara) Baker of North Platte, Logan Baker of Omaha, Charles Hunter (Kim) Haney of North Platte, Miles Synder of Ames, IA, Angela Santiago of Grand Prairie, TX, Sonny (Taylor) Sandoval of Thornton, and CJ Sandoval of Thornton, CO&nbsp; 10 great grandchildren, Morgan, Maura, Dylan, Grant, Abbi, Morgan, Gracelynn, Taylor, Gavin, and Parker; numerous other family members and many friends.&nbsp;

Saulsbury, age 88, of North Platte, Nebraska died October 9, 2020 at Linden Court in North Platte.&nbsp; She was born March 10, 1932 in Clifton, Illinois to James and Susan Catherine (Elbert) Leggott.&nbsp;Doris graduated from Elwood High School in 1950.&nbsp; She worked as a telephone operator in Lexington, Nebraska and was privy to many phone conversations.&nbsp; On May 23, 1953, she married Charles Edward Saulsbury at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.&nbsp; After Ed’s discharge from the military, they moved to North Platte, NE in 1958.&nbsp; After having 4 children in 5 years, Doris returned to the workplace.&nbsp; Doris worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, then was a secretary for J.M. McDonalds store for several years.&nbsp; Doris later returned to the ASCS and retiring as a program technician.&nbsp; After retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart for several years.&nbsp;Doris was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, being on the funeral dinner committee for years, the FN Klinkers Reunion Camping Club, and Friday Nighters Club, also was a volunteer for RSVP.Doris will be remembered as a wonderful mother, devoting her life to her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her husband Ed, joining him in all of his adventures.&nbsp; She was always a constant fan at all of her family’s events.Survivors include her four children, Michael (Pat) Saulsbury of Weimar, TX, Patricia (Joe) Snyder of Perry, IA, Kevin (Cori) Saulsbury of Thorton, CO, and Mary (Doug) Haney of North Platte; siblings, Alice Jean Dreher of Lexington, and Donald (Alice) Leggott of Kearney; four sister-in-laws, Jean McTygue of Kearney, Gerda Saulsbury of Lexington, Leigh Saulsbury of Colorado Springs, and Nadia Saulsbury of Washington; nine grandchildren, Mandy (Chris) Gibson of Groves, TX, Nicholas (Kristy) Bryant of North Platte, Kyle (Sara) Baker of North Platte, Logan Baker of Omaha, Charles Hunter (Kim) Haney of North Platte, Miles Synder of Ames, IA, Angela Santiago of Grand Prairie, TX, Sonny (Taylor) Sandoval of Thornton, and CJ Sandoval of Thornton, CO&nbsp; 10 great grandchildren, Morgan, Maura, Dylan, Grant, Abbi, Morgan, Gracelynn, Taylor, Gavin, and Parker; numerous other family members and many friends.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; an infant daughter Katherine; daughter in law, Jana Saulsbury; siblings, Evelyn Puls, Mary Eldora Synovec, Billy Leggott, James Leggott, Sherle Leggott, and Anna Mae Wade.&nbsp; A memorial has been established to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and online condolences can be left at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.adamsswanson.com/">www.adamsswanson.com</a>, and the family will be gathering at 918 Cedarberry Road in North Platte, NE.Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday October 14, 2020 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska with the Rev. Helen Marie Haas  (1932-2020)

Gregory Vargas, age 71, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health in North Platte on Monday, September 28, 2020.

Greg was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mildred and Fulgencia Vargas on February 16, 1949.&nbsp; He grew up in Council Bluffs and after graduating from high school, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1967.&nbsp; Greg served in Vietnam, then was assigned to Offutt Air Base in Omaha, Nebraska.

Following his honorable discharge in 1971, Greg moved to North Platte, Nebraska where he began working as a meter reader for the gas company, then hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; He worked as a Switchman, then a Conductor, until retiring.

On October 9, 1993, Greg married Kimberly Cortez in North Platte and they were together for over 10 years when she died.

Greg was baptized in the Catholic Church and was a member of Eagle Aeries #2839.&nbsp; He liked being with his family and enjoyed mowing his yard.

Along with his wife, Kim, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary Vargas, and sister, Stephanie Vargas.

Survivors include Greg's daughters, Nicole (Deon) Jackson and Michelle Vargas, all of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchldren Zack Vargas, Derek (Delaney) Vargas; Cayden Jackson, and Chantel Vargas; great-granddaughter, Ellie; sisters Pamela Proctor of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Mercedes 'Mercy' Dschaak of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother Frank Vargas of Las Vegas, Nevada; and other family.

Gregory Vargas  (1949-2020)

Bruce Merle Kroon, age 74, of North Platte, Nebraska died October 2, 2020, at Great Plains Health.

Bruce was born August 22, 1946 to Richard Kroon and Jeri (Arenson) Kroon in Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1964. Attend college for a couple of years, before going to the Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. He entered the United States Army where he was a surgical nurse at Fort Bragg and Ft Riley. While in nursing school he met the love of his life, Sandra Boffa. They were married on November 13, 1971 at St. John’s at Creighton University. They moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he went to anesthesia school at the Mayo Clinic for 2 years. They moved to North Platte in 1973, he worked as a CRNA at North Platte Hospital Corp. and in 1975 for Great Plains Health. Bruce worked at GPH for over 40 years, retiring in 2013.

As a young man, he was very rambunctious hellion. He loved to golf, fish and hunt. Always had a great sense of humor and great bedside manners. He was very patient, but was a great procrastinator. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.

Survivors include his wife Sandra of North Platte, 2 children; Nikki (Mark) Burkholder and Matt (Nickie) Kroon all of North Platte, sister; Jackie Belka of North Platte, 5 grandchildren; Dylan Woody, Mason Kroon, Bode Kroon, Mila Kroon and Liam Kroon, brother in law; Mark (Sheri) Boffa, Mooresville, NC and many nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. Bruce was preceded in death by; his parents, brother in law, Tom Belka and in-laws; Wally and Stephanie Boffa.

Bruce Merle Kroon  (1946-2020)

Lewellyn Barbara Frey, age 84, of Stapleton, Nebraska passed away October 6, 2020 at Great Plains Health, North Platte.

Lewellyn was born January 26, 1936, in Altadena, California, to Graceton and Ruby Detlefsen Philpot. When Lewellyn was about 12, the family moved three miles east of Stapleton. She attended school at Stapleton, and graduated with the Class of 1954. She attended CWC in Colorado.

She married Darwin (Derb) Frey on July 17, 1955 in Stapleton. They had two sons, Steve and Greg. They lived in Laramie, Wyoming, Grand Junction, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah, returning to Logan County in 1962 to raise their boys.

During high school, Lewellyn gave tap dancing lessons and while living in Laramie she worked for State Farm Insurance. She also worked at the E.S.U. #16 in North Platte as a teachers aid and took classes at the North Platte Community College in special education and worked at Stapleton Public Schools as a teacher’s aid.

Derb and Lewellyn purchased Hanna’s Supply and called the business Frey’s General Store.

Lewellyn belonged to the Stapleton Chamber of Commerce, and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Stapleton, Twilight 12 Club, and the Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Stapleton. She served on the E.S.U. #16 board for 36 years. She loved to golf, play bridge and work in her yard.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved going to all their games and taking Payton and Max golfing. She enjoyed all the activities in their lives and the great visits and all of their achievements.

Survivors include her husband, Derb; and sons, Steve (Cindy) Frey and Greg (Katrina) Frey, all of Stapleton; granddaughters, Stephanie (Greg) Miller of Lincoln; Casondra (Wayne) Claar of Mayfield, Kentucky; Shawna Frey of Stapleton; and Devan (Mitch) McAdow of Hyannis; grandsons, Payton Frey of Stapleton and Maxon &nbsp;Frey of Lincoln; uncle, Bobbie Smith, Arnold; nieces and nephews; and cousins, LaVerna (Pat) Faubion, California; Barbara Detlefsen, Omaha; and Robbi (Shelly) Smith, Arnold.
