Robert William 'Bob' Wright, age 74 of Ogallala, Nebraska passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Bob was born July 27, 1946, at Alliance, Nebraska, to Max Elton and Lenieve Catherine (Bovat) Wright. He graduated from Alliance High School before attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he obtained a degree in Commercial Art. On January 9, 1965, Bob married Betty J. Evans in Akron, Colorado. The couple made their home in Alliance before moving back to Lincoln, where Bob ran an art gallery. He went on to work for several companies in the area in sales and marketing. In the late 1980s, the couple moved to Castle Rock, Colorado, where he worked as Chief Operating Officer of United Phone Book, a telephone directory advertising company. Bob made a host of connections through his work in the field and traveled extensively throughout the country and other parts of the world. Bob retired in 1998. The couple made their home in Ogallala, Nebraska in recent years to be closer to family. In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed pheasant hunting. He was very skilled at woodworking and construction and enjoyed working with his hands. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Tom and Max Wright.

Beverly Jean Brainard Shaul, age 91, of North Platte, NE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in North Platte, NE.

She was born June 29, 1930 in Newhelina, NE at Aunt Julia and Uncle Theodore Christian’s home. She was the daughter of the late John S. and Margaret M. (Leonard) Brainard.

Beverly graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1947. She went on to teach school from 1947-1948 at a school south of Dunning, and at Cottonwood from 1948-1950.

She met her future husband, Otto L. Strand at the Cannon Store. She walked to the Cannon Store after school and Otto insisted on driving her home. Beverly worked as a server at the Stanley Hotel the summer after she graduated and came back to Hyannis, NE and worked at Hotel De Fair as a waitress. Otto and Beverly were married in Sheridan, WY July 1, 1949. They lived with Anna E. Strand right after marriage and then moved to the Burdick Place. Following Otto’s passing in 1988, Beverly met and married Elmo Shaul, who passed in 2000.

Beverly enjoyed knitting, embroidery and applique embroidery. She knitted over 30 sweaters for family members and friends. She was a devout Catholic, praying five Rosaries a day. She was a true prayer warrior praying the rosary for her family, our government and country, for all prayer petitions, for all to be one family, and for the morals of the World.

She is preceded in death by both her husband’s; her son, Lewis Strand; her siblings, Betty Elizabeth, Agnes Lorene, John Stewart, Robert Wallace, Willa Mae and Richard Eldon.

Beverly is survived by her children; Jeannie Haskell, Russell Strand, MargaretAnn Sellers, Julie (Scott) Correll and Dan (Lisa) Strand; daughter in law, Sue Strand; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte, NE with The Reverend Vidya Sagar Arikotla Celebrating. Book signing will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday July 9,2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with family receiving friends, with Rosary following. Cremation was chosen and burial will be private at a later date.

Beverly Jean Brainard Shaul  (1930-2021)

Elaine Kay Kapustka, aged 75, passed away on July 1, 2021, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.&nbsp; Her children were with her at the time of her death.

‘Kay’ was born December 21, 1945, to John and Jaunita (Meier) Connely in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; She was the youngest of three children.&nbsp; She and her family lived on a farm in Custer County, NE and Kay loved her rural upbringing that included horses, cattle, farming, and lots of time with her extended family.

Kay attended the Rose Valley Country School for Kindergarten through 7th&nbsp;grade, and then attended Broken Bow High School in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; She graduated in 1964.&nbsp;

After graduation, she attended the Hastings Beauty School in Hastings, NE.&nbsp;

She met Gary Kapustka at Broken Bow High School but began dating him after she claims she ‘won him in a poker game’ after graduation.&nbsp; She and Gary were married on August 19, 1967, in Broken Bow, NE.

On June 22, 1968, a daughter, Kimberly Ellen Kapustka was born, followed by a son, Gregory Richard Kapustka, born May 7, 1971.

Kay and Gary settled with their children in Cambridge, NE, where Kay worked as a Cosmetologist at several salons, including her own business known as Kay’s Kut and Kurl.

Kay was very active in the community. She was a 4-H sponsor, Community Theater actor, a member of the United Methodist Church, a volunteer with the local Food Bank, and assisted in helping with community events involving youth and the elderly.

Kay and her husband Gary also sponsored a total of four foreign exchange students from the countries of Japan, France, Germany, and Denmark. &nbsp;

After her husband retired from teaching at Cambridge High School, they relocated to Omaha, NE.&nbsp; There Kay spent her time with family, played chauffer to her grandchildren, did home day care, and enjoyed meeting people and making friends everywhere she went.&nbsp;

Her husband Gary passed away on June 30, 2016.&nbsp; After his death, Kay moved back to Cambridge, NE for a year, then moved to the Maple Ridge Retirement Community in Omaha, NE where she was known as ‘the puzzle lady’, an unofficial ambassador for the facility, and for her love of playing the card game Pitch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kay is survived by her daughter, Kim Keene, and son-in-law Richard of Omaha, NE, son Greg Kapustka, and daughter-in-law Tanya of Cambridge, NE; grandchildren Billy Schnase and Haleigh Compton, Katie Schnase, Reilly Keene, Jordan Keene, and Skylar Keene, Carley Kapustka and Travis Houser, Jessica Moree and husband Kody Moree,&nbsp; Aleisha Schnacker and husband Kyle Schnacker, Lacee Allen and Christopher Staska, Ashley Walkington and Troy Troutman, Kayley Schwing and husband David Schwing, and Danley Walkington; many beloved great grandchildren; sister Judith Connely and brother-in-law, Jesus Moreno, and brother Claris Connely, and sister-in-law, Charlene Connely.

Funeral Services are Friday, July 9th, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; Kathy Salts PNA will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Jeremy Deaver  (1974-2021)

Marjorie C. Malleck, age 85, died Sunday, July 4, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 15th, 1936, in McCook, NE to Louis and Susie (O’Dea) Colling. She was preceded in death by her 8 siblings. She married the love of her life, John (Gene) Malleck on October 19th, 1957 at St Patrick’s Church in McCook. This union lasted 63 years.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband Gene of McCook, NE &amp; children Dan (Kay) Malleck of York, NE, Lori (Kent) HIlker of McCook, NE, Lisa Malleck, Dale (Kim) Malleck, &amp; Lois (Kent) Dodson; all of Lincoln, NE, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and, several nieces and nephews who made it a point to visit often.&nbsp;

Marge was a longtime resident of McCook, NE. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1954, and St Francis School of Nursing in 1957. She was a Registered Nurse for several years at St Francis Hospital (Wichita, KS), Corvallis Hospital (OR), and a school nurse for 29 years for many Southwest Nebraska schools including McCook Public for 12 years.&nbsp;

Marge was a loving and devoted wife who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as a close circle of friends. In retirement, she attended daily Mass and swim workouts at the YMCA. Many fondly recall the countless rice huggie socks that she loved gifting to others as a warm hug from her. She also enjoyed playing the piano and having sing-a-longs with her family. Her grandkids will always fondly remember her rendition of her favorite song she would sing to them “A Bushel and A Peck.” She was a completely selfless woman who always put others ahead of herself. She was God’s servant with unwavering faith. The family is eternally grateful to the Hospice Care Team at Community Hospital for the caring way they assisted in her transition to eternal life.&nbsp;

Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 with the Recitation of the Rosary to follow, beginning at 7 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.&nbsp;

This union lasted 63 years.&nbsp;Survivors include her husband Gene of McCook, NE &amp; children Dan (Kay) Malleck of York, NE, Lori (Kent) HIlker of McCook, NE, Lisa Malleck, Dale (Kim) Malleck, &amp; Lois (Kent) Dodson; all of Lincoln, NE, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and, several nieces and nephews who made it a point to visit often.&nbsp;Marge was a longtime resident of McCook, NE. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1954, and St Francis School of Nursing in 1957. She was a Registered Nurse for several years at St Francis Hospital (Wichita, KS), Corvallis Hospital (OR), and a school nurse for 29 years for many Southwest Nebraska schools including McCook Public for 12 years.&nbsp;Marge was a loving and devoted wife who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as a close circle of friends. In retirement, she attended daily Mass and swim workouts at the YMCA. Many fondly recall the countless rice huggie socks that she loved gifting to others as a warm hug from her. She also enjoyed playing the piano and having sing-a-longs with her family. Her grandkids will always fondly remember her rendition of her favorite song she would sing to them “A Bushel and A Peck.” She was a completely selfless woman who always put others ahead of herself. She was God’s servant with unwavering faith. Evelyn 'Evie' Shults of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at home on July 4,&nbsp;2021, at the age of 87. Evie was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Monroe and Ollie Hughes on May 30,&nbsp;1934.&nbsp; She grew up in Hot Springs and later Dunsmuir, California, where she&nbsp;graduated from high school, then the Hughes family moved to Grant, Nebraska. While working at a diner in Grant, Evie met Warren Shults.&nbsp; The couple married on November 13, 1954, in Raton, New Mexico, then made their home in&nbsp;Grant, Nebraska.&nbsp; In 1959 they moved to North Platte, Nebraska where they raised their&nbsp;children, Vickie and Mark, and later owned Shults Construction.&nbsp; Evie&nbsp;was very involved with the business doing interior decorating and staging. When in high school, Evie was a majorette.&nbsp; Years later she and Warren enjoyed being active and socializing.&nbsp; They liked dancing, going to Husker games, attending the grandkids sporting events and going out to the Elks and American Legion.&nbsp; Evie especially enjoyed her trips to Washington to visit Vickie and Denny and go boating with them, but most&nbsp;importantly, Evie loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents, Monroe and Ollie Hughes; sisters, Louise Andrighetto and Carol Lehl; and son-in-law, Denny Evans. Evelyn "Evie" Shults  (1934-2021)

Harley Altena, age 62, of rural Lisco, Nebraska passed away Friday, June 25, 2021, at his home.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church with Pastors Bruce Neal and Kerry Johnson officiating.&nbsp; Burial is in the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery near Oshkosh, Nebraska.

Harley was born May 9, 1959, in Rock Rapids, Iowa to Dick and Winifred Altena of Iowa. He was the only boy in the middle of five sisters. He grew up in Ireton, Iowa where he had a love for building cars and made it his hobby throughout high school.

He graduated West Sioux High School in 1977. He met Shelly, his forever wife in 1992, along with his two children, Desarie and Travis. They were married and added to the family, welcoming two daughters together, Brittany and Chelsea.

Harley loved his family and enjoyed training colts and riding horses throughout his life. He had a way with a horse that not many could mimic. Following his passion, he moved his family to the Sandhills in 1993 where he continued living his dream of riding horses and managing cattle, ranching North of Hyannis, Nebraska. In May of 2011, Harley and Shelly moved to north of Oshkosh, Nebraska and continued their love of cattle and ranch work. In2015, Harley accepted a position for Rush Creek Land and Live Stock in rural Lisco where he continued his passion on the back of a horse.

Harley will be forever loved and missed by all those who were close to him and his family. The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences during this difficult time.&nbsp; Please know we appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers we have received.

Mildred Alice Painter was born on May 30, 1920 to Lambert and Violet Jerred. She passed away June 26, 2021 at the Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska at the age of 101. Mildred attended Ainsworth High School in Ainsworth, Nebraska and graduated in 1939. She met Gerald Painter at the Meadville dance and they married November 9, 1939. They ranched and farmed in Keya Paha County, Nebraska their first years and she began her role as a ranch wife south of Long Pine, Nebraska from 1948-1985. They moved to their place southeast of Ainsworth that she thoroughly enjoyed. Mildred was an outstanding wife, Mom and Grandma. She loved her family and wanted the best for each one. She always cooked for a big crew and was outstanding at it. They always looked forward to her delicious pie. She loved gardening, sewing and quilting with the ladies at the church. She would raise 200 baby chicks and take care of them. She taught her daughters-in-law to cook, can and dress chickens. Mildred was preceded in death by husband Gerald; son Larry; parents Lambert and Violet; sister Lucille Schroetlin; brother Rollin Jerred; granddaughter Karma Painter and great grandchildren: Dally, Derby, Bit and Jameson Painter. Mildred is survived by children: Marlin (Ruth) Painter, Roberta Painter, Donnie (Marcia) Painter, Donita Painter and Roger (Janet) Painter; 11 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and sister Betty Zoerb. Mildred’s love for the Lord was shared often with her neighbors, children and her love for the people of the church. Mildred loved the Lord with her whole heart. She loved serving at the church; her desire for her family and friends to know her God was her greatest desire.

Bertha L. Daharsh, age 94, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 29, 2021 at Stone Hearth Estates, Gothenburg.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born February 1, 1927 in North Platte, Nebraska, daughter of George and Gladys (Ridenour) Kariger.

Bertha attended school in Sutherland, Nebraska. Following high school, she went on to attain her Bachelors Degree in teaching. She was a teacher at Gothenburg Public Schools for 33 years and then was a substitute teacher for six years following her retirement.&nbsp;

She married Leonard Hood in 1943, and they later divorced. On August 16, 1957 she married Damon Daharsh in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

In her free time, Bertha enjoyed painting china, quilting, and spending time in her yard tending to her flowers and yard. Bertha loved animals, but especially cats.

Survivors include son, Roger (Paula) Hood of Gothenburg, NE; grandchildren, Kerri (Steve) Kraft of Broomfield, CO, Greg (Michelle) Hood of Lincoln, NE, Dirk (Melissa) Hood of Roca, NE, and Beth (Don) Burton of Omaha, NE; James Garrelts, Mark (Rhonda) Garrelts, and Mindy (Richard) Keller; 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; &nbsp;nieces and nephews and many friends. &nbsp; Bertha was preceded in death by father, George W. Kariger, mother, Gladys E. Kariger, husband, Damon Daharsh, two daughters, Virginia (Gin) Garrelts, and Kathleen&nbsp; Hood, son, Alan Dale Hood, sisters, Theo Mae Whitmire and Kathryn Smith, brothers, George Kariger and Harvey Kariger, son-in-law James Garrelts.

William Thomas Rawson, age 90 of rural Lexington, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Bill was born June 26, 1930 in Lexington, Nebraska to Carl and Linnea (Hanson) Rawson. He attended rural school in the Lexington area and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1948. After graduation Bill attended Colorado A&amp;M before returning to the farm to help his father.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Miller on July 8, 1953 In Elmwood, Nebraska. To this union three children were born; Tom, Richard and Suzy. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Lexington. Bill and Barbara were very proud of the hogs they raised and won many awards showing them.

Bill was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, the Dawson County Sparerib Club, a strong supporter of the area 4H members, and the Phelps-Gosper County Husker Chop Club.

Survivors include two sons: Tom Rawson of Sherman, Texas, Richard Rawson of California, one daughter; Suzy and husband Ralph Herrigel of Lexington, Nebraska; three grandchildren; John Rawson, Matthew Rawson and Sierra Rawson; and one sister; Eleanor and husband Richard Chinn of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Barbara on February 4, 2007.

Bill will be forever known as the one armed man with the enthusiastic wave while riding his four wheeler.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Robb Cemetery, south of Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.

William Thomas Rawson  (1930-2021)

Delmar K. Attebery, of North Platte, Nebfaska passed away with his family by his side on July 3, 2021, at the North Platte Care Center at the age of 88.

Delmar was born to Dorl and Lila Attebery on January 2, 1933, at North Platte where he grew up. In 1950, while in high school, Del hired on as a clerk with the Union Pacific Railroad. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1951.

Delmar joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served overseas. Following his honorable discharge in '55, he returned home and to his job on the railroad. Delmar married LaRae Brandt on February 3, 1958, in North Platte where they made their home.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #1504 and Eagles Aires #2839 where he also served as president. Delmar loved his family and sports. He coached girls softball, umpired and refereed high school sports, played town team baseball, and was a huge fan of North Platte Community College athletics and Husker volleyball and baseball. If he wasn't participating in sports, he was watching them, college or high school were his favorites.

A special thanks goes to the Kidney Care Center and the North Platte Care Center for all their care and concern for Del. He will be greatly missed.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, Dorl and Lila, and sister, Sharon Attebery.

He is survived by his wife, LaRae, and their children, Gary (Roxanne) Attebery and Kris Attebery, all of North Platte, NE; brother, Jerry (Mary Claire) Attebery, of Stockton, CA; brother-in-law, Randy (Sherry) Brandt, of North Platte, NE; sister-in-law, Maris (Frank) Aldrich, of Helena, MT; niece, Tammy (Mike) Buntjer; nephews, Rod (Shelley) Attebery and Rod (Jen) Brandt; as well as many extended family members.

Cremation was chosen. Attebery, of North Platte, Nebfaska passed away with his family by his side on July 3, 2021, at the North Platte Care Center at the age of 88.Delmar was born to Dorl and Lila Attebery on January 2, 1933, at North Platte where he grew up. In 1950, while in high school, Del hired on as a clerk with the Union Pacific Railroad. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1951.Delmar joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served overseas. Following his honorable discharge in '55, he returned home and to his job on the railroad. Delmar married LaRae Brandt on February 3, 1958, in North Platte where they made their home.He was a member of the First Baptist Church, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #1504 and Eagles Aires #2839 where he also served as president. Delmar loved his family and sports. He coached girls softball, umpired and refereed high school sports, played town team baseball, and was a huge fan of North Platte Community College athletics and Husker volleyball and baseball. If he wasn't participating in sports, he was watching them, college or high school were his favorites.A special thanks goes to the Kidney Care Center and the North Platte Care Center for all their care and concern for Del. Delmar K. Attebery  (1933-2021)

Dorothy Marie Henton, age 89, departed her earthly&nbsp;life&nbsp; surrounded&nbsp;by family&nbsp;and&nbsp;entered&nbsp;into&nbsp;Heaven on July 4, 2021, from Hill Crest Nursing Home in McCook, NE&nbsp;

Dorothy was born at home on a farm south of McCook on November 4, 1931, to Fred and Emma (Liebbrandt) Friehe. Dorothy was baptized on November 29, 1931, and was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church on March 25, 1945, in McCook. She graduated from McCook High School in 1949.&nbsp;

Dorothy married Garnet Henton on April 29, 1950, in McCook at Peace Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born, Kathleen, James, Jane Marie, and Leah. Dorothy and Garnet were married for 64 years at the time of Garnet’s passing on March 23, 2015.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother “granny,” always taking great interest and pride in the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy raised her children in the Christin faith while always being a faithful servant of God and a highly active member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving in multiple leadership capacities and was a member of LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), where she served as McCook’s 1st&nbsp;President along with being a charter member. Dorothy was also the Vice President of the district board of Nebraska “South District” for 12 years of the Church. She enjoyed serving in multiple church congregation activities and was a member of the “Life Light” adult Bible class. She kept God and her family first and was an unconditionally loving and dedicated woman who will be deeply missed.&nbsp;

Dorothy enjoyed volunteering and was the Coordinator at the Pantry in McCook from 1980-2017 along with helping deliver meals on wheels for many years. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the High Plains Museum Board for several years and was a continually active member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). She was a Bridge Life Master and always enjoyed playing bridge in leagues and with family. Garnet and Dorothy were bridge partners from 1990-2015 and traveled to numerous locations through the years playing bridge.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Emma Friehe; husband, Garnet Henton; infant daughter, Jane Marie; brother, Ellsworth Friehe and Ervin Friehe; and sister, Elaine Friehe.&nbsp;

Glenn Paul Nutt, of Elsie, Nebraska, passed away June 29, 2021, at his home south of Elsie. Glenn was born February 19, 1951, at Grant, Nebraska, to Marion and Freda (Linnemeyer) Nutt. He attended school at Elsie before working with his dad and brother on the family farm, which had been established in the 1800s. Glenn spent a few years working for the County, running a maintainer, and at Gerald Gentleman in Sutherland, but by and large farmed the majority of his life and, in later years, living on the homeplace. Glenn had an appreciation for the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish when he got the chance. Glenn was preceded by his parents; three brothers, Morris, Dwight, and Marlin; three sisters, Arlene, Bertha, and Norma. Survivors include two brothers, Tom (Sharon) Nutt of Holdrege, Nebraska and Wayne (Freda) Nutt of Dickens, Nebraska; brother in-law, Ray Pace of North Platte, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Thelma Jean Long was born June 24, 1938, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Arthur Avery and Lois Iola (Clements) Siefken. Thelma grew up in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School in 1956. On March 12, 1955, Thelma married Irvin Dale Long in Benkelman, Nebraska. The couple first settled in Wauneta, NE, and then relocated to Lincoln, NE, where Irvin was employed in construction and Thelma worked in several factories including Russell Stover Candies and Lester’s Electrical Company. Thelma enjoyed cross stitching, camping, fishing, bowling and collecting cookie jars. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma passed away early Sunday morning, June 27, 2021, at her home surrounded by family, near McCook, NE. She was 83 years of age. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Irvin in 2020; daughter Penny Ritchie; in-laws Hazel and Hack Long; and grandson Shawn Ritchie. Thelma Jean Long  (1938-2021)

Jerrie "Jerry" W. Bodeen of North Platte, Nebraska passed away June 26, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born December 29, 1937 in North Platte, NE. He was the son of Elcyne Haught Eurich and C.A. Bodeen. Jerrie spent most of his childhood with his grandparents Bill and Lula Haught. He graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1956. He was active in the Boy Scouts growing up. Jerrie was united in marriage to Kay A. Meves, of Lincoln, NE., on June 16, 1962.

After graduating from University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1962 he served in the United States Army as 1st&nbsp;Lieutenant and then as Captain. Jerrie was a helicopter pilot serving in Germany and Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medals. After being wounded in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and returned to North Platte where he was Office Manager at Municipal Light &amp; Water. Jerrie then worked as a CPA for Haney, Martin &amp; Ludwig CPA firm and later returned to Municipal Light &amp; Water, retiring in 2006. He was an active member of the North Platte Optimists Club for many years and a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He enjoyed his close friendship with his UNL pledge class of Phi Kappa Psi and participated in all of their reunions. Jerrie enjoyed his annual camping trips to the Wyoming mountains for the past 50 years and snowbird trips to Arizona and Texas.

Jerrie W. "Jerry"  Bodeen  (1937-2021)

Jim Stewart McKinney, loving husband, father and grandpa, and longtime resident, teacher, and coach of Wauneta, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday evening, June 29, 2021, at the Chase County Hospital of Imperial, Nebraska at the age of 72 years of age.&nbsp; Jim was born on August 23, 1948 to Paul&nbsp; Virginia McKinney in Sidney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Jim grew up and attended school in Dix, Nebraska and graduated from Dix High School in 1966.&nbsp; He went on to further his education and graduated from Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska in 1970.

On May 31, 1969, Jim married Patsy Smith in Hastings, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple first lived at College Heights in Kearney as Jim finished college, and in Dix during the summers.&nbsp; They moved to Wauneta, Nebraska in 1970 for teaching jobs and lived in small little houses.&nbsp; In 1977, they built their home out in the country and established their residence ever since.

For employment from around 1966 to 1960, Jim worked for the Interstate Bridge Construction Company and he did oil field work in the panhandle of Nebraska.&nbsp; After they moved to Wauneta for their teaching jobs, he also had Frontier Birds, raising pheasants, chukars and quail for 25 years.&nbsp; Jim taught woodworking and carving classes.&nbsp; He was a coach for football, basketball, track and golf.&nbsp; Jim helped locals harvest during the summer and was a local building inspector.&nbsp; He also taught hunters' safety and drivers' education.

During the span of his life, Jim was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wild Turkey Federation, many carving clubs and stock club.&nbsp; His hobbies were plenty:&nbsp; hunting, fishing, carving, bird watching, gardening, family game nights and card, traveling, playing guitar, raising exotic birds, ducks and geese, people visiting and people watching, golf and trap league.

Jim's LOVE was to spend time and watch his children and especially his grandchildren in all the sporting events, or any activities.&nbsp; Fishing - "Quarter for the first fish" - and hunting - seeing the "Big One" - brought out to Grandpa first or how many beards the turkey has.&nbsp; Sitting on the back porch with Pat watching all the birds come into the bird feeders or the kittens playing with his homemade fishing pole cat toy.&nbsp; Singing with family and playing guitars with friends and neighbors.&nbsp; Family game night was a favorite.&nbsp; Seeing his sisters and having breakfast with them at the local café.&nbsp; FAMILY was everything to him.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dan; and his brother-in-law, Roy. Jim Stewart McKinney  (1948-2021)

Hans Erik Meyer, age 36, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on June 21, 2021, in Springerville, Arizona.&nbsp; He was born on October 8, 1984, in West Point, Nebraska to Gregg and Terri (Stahl) Meyer.

Hans attended elementary school in Crete, North Platte and Butte, Nebraska before moving to Imperial, Nebraska in 1994, where he graduated in 2002.&nbsp; After high school, Hans attended Southwest Community College in Milford, Nebraska, obtaining an Associates Degree in Electrical Technology in 2005 and earned his Associates of Science in Chemistry at Mesa Community College in 2013.&nbsp; He then moved to Tucson to continue his studies.&nbsp; He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physics with minors in Math &amp; Chemistry from the University of Arizona in May 2015.

Hans worked at Super Foods, Owen's True Value, and for Kerry Bernhardt during high school.&nbsp; He spend a few months in Iowa working at the top of newly erected wind generators.&nbsp; He then moved to Phoenix, Arizona as a temporary electrician with CES America and ended up with his Journeyman's License working for Delta Diversified Ent (DDE).&nbsp; After the economy fell and he was laid off, Hans went back to school at the University of Arizona.&nbsp; While at the University of Arizona, Hans worked at the University Bookstore from 2012-2016 and eventually became as assistant manager and the Textbook Inventory Specialist.&nbsp; In addition, he tutored as a teacher assistant for the Physics Department.&nbsp; Hans spent a few months as an Officer Recruit with the City of Tucson Police Department before moving on to his last place of employment with Leidos, first as a Billing Analyst II and progressing to a Project Accountant for government and commercial customers in Tucson, Arizona.

In Imperial, Nebraska, Hans was active in AWANA, swim team, and FFA.&nbsp; He enjoyed going to Enders Lake with his SeaDoo and his beautiful blue merle, Shetland sheepdog, Kess.&nbsp; Later in life, Hans enjoyed reading for knowledge, running, biking and hiking in the mountains around Tucson.

Hans was a mentor, a great friend and was very kind to whomever he encountered.&nbsp; Captivated by mountain views and desert landscapes, Tucson was his home.&nbsp; He was always planning a long hike/run at Sabino Canyon, biking up Mount Lemmon, camping in Sedona or running The Loop (Tucson).&nbsp; He volunteered his time at aid stations for marathons and was passionate about preserving and maintaining The Arizona Trail.&nbsp; He enjoyed reading.&nbsp; In his leisure he was often reading under a tree at the University of Arizona.&nbsp; He had been heading to the White Mountains of New Mexico for extended camping trip when he passed away from a medical condition.

Hans was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, J. Wlater &amp; Delores (Pagels) Meyer of West Point, Nebraska; and his maternal grandparents, Chris &amp; Verla (Perry) Stahl of Kimball, Nebraska; Aunt Kathy Pearson and cousins Gina &amp; Roger Pearson of Oakland, Nebraska; infant niece, Isabella Bernache, and infant nephew, Uriah Bernache, of Kearney, Nebraska.

Hans Erik Meyer  (1984-2021)

Thomas M. Phifer, age 71, of North Platte, Nebraska died peacefully on Wednesday, June 30 surrounded by his family.

Tom was born on September 6, 1949, to Clarence and Beulah (Hopping) Phifer. He grew up in North Platte and attended Platte Valley School. It was here that he became lifelong friends with Mike McCrone. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1967. Tom served our country in the Army for two years before being honorably discharged. When he returned home, he was set up on a blind date with Mona Curtis, who became Mrs. Phifer just five months later. They recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. He then received an Associate’s Degree from Mid Plains Voc Tech in Building Construction before starting a 40-year long career as a conductor with the Union Pacific.

Later in life, he developed a passion for meticulously repairing and restoring vintage items including gas pumps, pedal cars, gas cans, gumball machines, and his last project was a parking meter! His most prized restoration was an award-winning 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. Aside from his hobbies, Grandpa Tom was very devoted and influential in his grandchildren’s lives and he adored all of them. Their memories of their Grandpa Tom doting on them will sustain them as they grieve their loss. His friends and family will remember him for his quick wit and that he always put the happiness and needs of others before his own.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mona; their children, Michelle (Mark) Roberson of Wichita, KS, and Ryan (Michelle) Phifer of Olathe, KS; their grandchildren, Miriam Young, Greta Young, Ayden Phifer, and Jace Phifer; his brother, Ken (Patty) Phifer of North Platte, NE.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John.

Celebration of Life and burial of ashes will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 9:30 am at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska, including full military honors, with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 3 from Noon-7:00pm at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00pm.

Memorials to honor Tom’s life will be forwarded to the North Platte Community College Knights Cage Club which supports the men’s basketball team.

Eloise Jane Weil passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. She was born in Holdrege, NE on November 22, 1924 to Oscar E. Falk and Myrtle O. (Anderson) Falk. She grew up on a farm south of Axtell, NE and attended rural school and graduated from Wilcox High School in 1943. She attended Kearney State College before going to work for Northwest Bell Telephone Co. in Holdrege, NE.

On April 6, 1947 she married Leslie Weil in Holdrege, NE. They lived on a farm a short time helping her father, Oscar, after Les finished his schooling in Denver, CO. They moved to North Platte, NE in 1951. Eloise worked for the telephone company for 19 years before retirement in 1984.

In her earlier years she was a Camp Fire Leader, den mother for the boy scouts, active in PTA, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the United Methodist Women’s Society, serving as secretary for some time. She directed the children’s choir and sang in the adult choir. Eloise belonged to the United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

She enjoyed traveling, good music, going to grandchildren’s activities, and the happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Eloise had a great ability writing poetry notes and sending them in greeting cards to friends and family.

Eloise developed a retinal decease several years ago and gradually lost her sight. She never complained or became depressed and handled it gracefully.

She moved to Linden Court in August of 2013 and received the best care our family could have received.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar E. Falk and Myrtle O. Falk; and sister; Berniece Henricksen.

She is survived by her children; Linda (Bill) Smith of North Platte, NE, Randy (Brenda) Weil of Fremont, NE, and Roger A. Eloise Jane Weil  (1947-2021)

Rodney Snogren, age 70, of Ogallala, Nebraska passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, at Papillion, Nebraska. Rod was born on September 17, 1950, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Roy J. and Audrey L. (Preston) Snogren. He graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1968. He subsequently entered the Army National Guard, having served in active duty for part of his commitment. Rod worked at Armstrong's Filling Station pumping gas and selling minnows before working at TRW and later, Humphreys Auto Supply. On April 7, 1973, Rod married Vicki Reed, and the couple made their home in Ogallala, Nebraska their entire married lives. In 1976, Rod went to work at Ogallala Electric until 1999, when he and Vicki started Snogren Insurance. Rod was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, especially when he got to share the time with his friends and family. Rod enjoyed a good game of pitch and the laughs and gamesmanship that would oftentimes encircle the table. He appreciated a good story and had the kind of humor that would leave people hanging on his words, trying to decide on his seriousness. Rod wasn't the kind of man that put on airs but had a ruddy authenticity about him. He treasured his family and all the moments that they shared, perhaps especially the ones not meant for a Hallmark card. Rod was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Melissa Snogren; his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Joe Burgert. Survivors include his wife, Vicki of Ogallala, Nebraska; daughters, Angela (Keith) Helff of Papillion, Nebraska and Amy (Dustin) Muir of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Tyson, Aniston, Adelynn, Landon, and Evan Helff, as well as Kolby, Kameron, and Kooper Muir. Rodney Snogren  (1950-2021)

Cathryn Colleen Hoselton, age 81, of Eustis, Nebraska died June 28, 2021 in Cozad, Nebraska. Cathryn was born September 14, 1939 in Onawa, Iowa to Melvin and Clara (Martz) Gries. She was the oldest of five children. 

Cathy was a very loving and sensitive person. She loved everyone she met and everyone was always welcomed in her home for meals or beds. Her church was an important part or her life and her faith carried her through many hardships and heartaches. Family was one of the most important things in her life. 

Cathy graduated from Lexington, NE high school in 1958. She went to work for Wheelers Chevrolet as a bookkeeper until she met the love of her life, Jim Hoselton. They married on November 16, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Lexington, NE. This marriage was blessed with 3 children: Zane James, Patricia Lynn, and Craig Edward. She was a CNA med aid at the Elwood Care Center for many years. When she retired she started cooking at the Eustis Senior Center. 

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, baby brother Edward, sister Elsie, and her mother-in-law Marie and father-in-law Art. 

She is survived by her husband, Jim of 58 years; her children Zane of Eustis, NE, Patricia (Larry) Elwood of Lincoln, NE, and Craig (Marty) of Omaha, NE, Frank (Susan) Strong of Eustis, NE;&nbsp; sister Linda (Don) Jones of Cozad, NE; brother, Larry (Leslie) Gries of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Kay (Jerry) Quinn of Oxford, NE; 3 grandchildren, Brandon (Kate, fiancé) Spanjer of Crete, NE, Madalyn (Kyle, friend) of Lincoln, NE, and Tiarah Of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Cathryn Colleen Hoselton  (1939-2021)

Ethel Eudean (Winters) Butolph, age 98, of North Platte, NE passed away on June 29, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. She was born on the family farm near Tryon, NE on July 9, 1922 to Albert Edward and Florence Millicent (Cumpston) Winters. Ethel was the seventh of ten children in the family. It was there that she developed her love for the Nebraska Sandhills and her work ethic.

She was a member of Parkview Community Nazarene Church and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Ethel enjoyed her flowers, embroidering and quilting for herself and others.

After completing 8th grade, she was ready to explore the world outside of the Sandhills. She worked for the Postmaster at Ringgold, NE before going to Bend, Oregon with her sister, Opal. While she was in Bend, she began a pen pal correspondence with her future husband Virgil.

The ladies of McPherson County had included the names of the unmarried girls with popcorn balls they prepared for the North Platte Canteen. Virgil and Ethel exchanged letters for three years before meeting in person. They were married 2 weeks later on September 14, 1944 while he was home on leave from the U.S. Army.

Ethel was always happy to share the story of their courtship and was proud to be called the “Popcorn Ball Bride”.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Linden Court for the wonderful care given to Ethel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, in 1976; her parents; 1 brother, George Winters; 6 sisters, Mary Winters, Edna Klitzke, Ella Leeds, Pearl Osborne, Opal Winters, Bessie Bass; and son in law, Nathan Clark.

She is survived by her 5 children, Verdena (Richard) Clark Mustion, Voneta “Vonnie” (Dennis) Engler, Joleen (Jon) Oosting, Gaylene (Robert) Davis, all of North Platte, NE and son, Douglas (Joy) Butolph of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 unborn great grandchild; 2 sisters, Vera Butrick of Watertown, SD and Bernice Andreasen of North Platte, NE; and many other family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln County Historical Museum or Parkview Community Nazarene Church.

Ethel Eudean Butolph  (1922-2021)

Delores Eileen (Risk) Spradlin, age 76, of North Platte, Nebraska, peacefully passed away June 28, 2021 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte with her loved ones at her side. She was born on September 23, 1944 to George and Eileen (Johnson) Risk of Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up in Columbus, Nebraska where she graduated high school, then went to attend college and wound up in California.

She was united in marriage to Bobby Ray Spradlin of Mt Vernon, Arkansas, January 23, 1971 in Palm Springs, California. After marriage, the couple lived in the area where they had their first two children and then moved to Arkansas where they had their third child, then to Nebraska where they had their fourth child, then returned to Arkansas in 1984. The couple divorced in 1989.

Shortly after, Delores returned to Nebraska briefly before deciding to finish college in Colorado where she remained to finish her career and retired. In 2018, she decided to move to North Platte, Nebraska where she spent her time gardening, hosting book club, volunteering at Buffalo Elementary, Salvation Army, and the Heritage Museum.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church and then later converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she has remained a devout member ever since. Notably taught primary to the children for over 20 years.
