Mary Esther Bennett, age 78, a longtime resident and business owner in McCook, Nebraska passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at Community Hospital in McCook.&nbsp; She was born to James and Margie (Bogart) Plotts on August 26, 1942 in Oberlin, Kansas.&nbsp; She attended school in Oberlin and graduated with the class of 1960.

Mary married Butch Curl in May of 1960 at the Assembly of God Church in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union two sons were born, Burke and Kurke.&nbsp; The family made their home in McCook where Mary worked as a bookkeeper at the Grainger Food Warehouse and at the KICX Radio Station.&nbsp; In 1971 the family moved to Elm Creek, Nebraska where Mary attended Kearney LPN School in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; In 1973 they returned to McCook where Mary worked at St. Catherine’s Hospital and for Dr. Dickenson.&nbsp; In 1980 Mary made her final career change when she attended cosmetology school in McCook and opened her own business, Four Seasons Hair Salon, she operated the salon for 40 years.&nbsp;

In 2001 Mary was united in marriage to Roger Bennett in Stockville, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple enjoyed boating together at the Medicine Creek State Recreation area.&nbsp; They also bread, raised, and cared for Quarter Horses, having as many as 28 at one time.&nbsp; Mary loved animals; she shared this passion with others by also breeding and caring for Corgi puppies with Roger.

Mary was a talented musician and singer.&nbsp; She was the lead vocalist for Stanley Anderson and the Sundowners when she was younger.&nbsp; Even though she never learned to read music, Mary was still able to play any instrument that she laid her hands on.&nbsp; She also enjoyed oil painting, mostly landscapes and wildlife scenes.&nbsp; Many of her pieces were used to decorate local business offices in McCook and two were chosen as Habitat Stamps by the state of Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be fondly remembered by her husband, Roger Bennett of McCook, Nebraska; sons, Burke (Lora Childers) Curl and Kurke (Anissa) Curl both of McCook, Nebraska; stepchildren, Shannon (Kelly) Bennett of Elwood, Nebraska and Brenda (Blaine) Biehl of Cozad, Nebraska; grandsons: Jake (Kali) Curl, Zac (Trista) Curl, Nic (River) Curl all of McCook, Nebraska, Luke (Hannah) Curl of Wauneta, Nebraska, and Cauy Bennett of Elwood, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Landon, Kinlee, and Adelynn Curl; and brother Jim (Carolyn) Plotts of Norcatur, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday morning, June 10, 2021 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Dale Heimer officiating.&nbsp; Graveside services and inurnment will follow at 2:00 P.M., Thursday afternoon at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Mary’s Name.&nbsp; Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.&nbsp; Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

Mary Esther Bennett  (1942-2021)

On November 11, 1946, Ted Lecortus Evans was born to Fredrick Smith and Marjorie Jean Evans in Lincoln, Nebraska. When Ted was three, the Evans family made the move back to Wallace, Nebraska where Fred's family had long family ties. Ted's middle name comes from his great-grandfather Philanderous Lecortus Harper, who was known for his generosity, and so was Ted. Ted developed lifetime friendships in Wallace. David Anderson, and the entire Gire family were particularly special in Ted's heart. After graduating high school, Ted entered the army, where he was trained as a sharpshooter and worked as an ambulance driver, using skills he began developing as a four-year-old when he started driving a tractor and pulling a trailer. After his discharge from the Army, Ted attended college at University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Ted was particularly adept with his hands and had a sharp, deductive mind, and was good at problem solving. Ted took a job as a warehouseman for Jerrold Electronics in Lincoln, Nebraska. It wasn't long before he was climbing poles. Soon he was in high demand as a lineman and trouble shooter. This caused Ted to be on the road constantly. In 1967, Ted met Kris at a national church convention for the Congregational Church in Racine, Wisconsin. She couldn't forget him - that twinkle in his eye and that winning smile. They corresponded, made phone calls, and eventually Ted popped up on her doorstep. On June 27, 1969, they were married in Marysville, Kansas, beginning a lifetime adventure. Ted and Kris had two children, Darrin and Laura, five years apart. Their early years together were virtually spent on the road. Homeschool was a great option. Ted graduated Manitou Electronic Trade School in Manitou Springs, Colorado, took local system positions around the country working his way up to Eastern Regional Manager for Televents; and then Corporate Construction Coordinator for a WOMETCO. He finally started his own CATV construction company. Ted and Kris each made a commitment to the Lord, and became convinced it was time for a career change away from cable TV. He had learned building skills from his father-in-law. Ted became a contractor of a different type-- home remodeling. He eventually began specializing in high-end kitchen and bath remodels in the Atlanta area. It was here that their niece, Juliet, joined the family, adding another dimension to the family life. Ted remained in the Atlanta area until his father began to decline, making a total transition back to Wallace after his father died in 2009. Ted loved Wallace-- the view from his windmill on top the hill, the owls calling at night, the night sky. He didn't know his time there would be so short lived. His health declining, Ted and Kris, moved to Montrose, CO, to be closer to better medical treatment, a milder climate, and fewer acres, yet still have that desired tractor play for Ted. Ted was bigger than life. He loved "fiercely." He was quick to protect his family or another he felt was in danger. He never met a stranger. It was his mission to make people smile. He loved meeting people's needs. He lived a life of service. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a big smile, and a hearty handshake to greet people. Ted was a very hard worker. But he eagerly embraced the seventh-day Sabbath after he studied it through. Some of the family's best memories were Sabbath activities together out in nature and time spent in worship and rest. Ted was having the time of his life right up until he became ill. He had 13 different construction projects started on the property, and true to form, none of them completed when he died on May 25, 2021. His death was sudden after 12 days from the first symptom of COVID. Ted is at complete peace, sleeping until the Lord returns. No more pain. No more cancer. No more diabetes. No more heart issues. No more dementia. Just beautiful, peaceful, rest. The next thing Ted will do will be to look Jesus in His sweet, beautiful face. What a day of rejoicing that will be! He'll be raised incorruptible, vibrant, and still have THAT smile! Ted is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine (Kris) Moore Evans; his son Darrin Fredrick Evans and wife, Jenniffer, and their children Caleb and Alaina; his daughter Laura Jean Evans-Kidd and her children Jonathan and Josephine;&nbsp;and his niece Juliet Moore Griffiths Graveside services will be June 24, 10:30am Mountain time at Morning View Cemetery, Wallace, Nebraska with&nbsp;Pastor George Goddard presiding.&nbsp;&nbsp;A picnic meal in the park will be provided by the Wallace UMW following the service.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven; a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted, Tom understood the seasons. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Thomas Dean Russell was born on June 2, 1937.&nbsp; Tom, the son of Florence Helen (Holtz) and Howard Kenneth Russell, was born at the family farm in rural Hamilton County near Marquette, Nebraska. Tom and his seven siblings attended the rural district 69 school, until that building was moved to the Russell farmstead. The Russell children then attended the Marquette 1 R First Consolidated school and high school in Marquette. Tom enjoyed working with his family on the farm and also worked for the local ASCS office at the grain bin site. Tom honorably served in the US Army from 1960 – 1962 and in the reserves until December 5, 1966. Tom farmed near Phillips Nebraska from 1964 – 1967 before moving his family to rural western Chase County near Lamar, Nebraska. Tom farmed with his brother Bob for a time and also in partnership with his sister Rosalie. Like his father Howard, Tom sold seed corn for Garst and Thomas, then Pioneer before retiring as a Garst seed salesman. During his early years farming in Chase County he also worked at Prior Implement with his good friends Rudy and Doug Brandt. Tom’s cattle operation and farming kept him busy and as his seed business grew, he ended the cattle operation which allowed him time to travel. Tom and his family enjoyed traveling, with numerous trips to South Dakota, Padre Island, Texas, Minnesota, Tennessee, Florida and California. Tom was very proud of the fact that he had visited all 50 states during his life. Tom’s seed business provided him the opportunity to travel and he hosted his parents and sister, daughters, and niece on trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, just to name a few. Tom really enjoyed his annual deep-sea fishing trip to Loreto, Mexico, with some local friends from the Holyoke, Colorado community, enjoying yellow tail and tuna fish, watching the dolphins, stingrays and grey whales. Tom was joined by his brother Melvyn one year, and they enjoyed the trip together, with great stories to share. Tom enjoyed farming, helping neighbors and being a part of the community. His hobbies included golf, leather tooling and hunting. Tom farmed for years with his daughters, as he had given up on hiring a “hired man” as they frequently disappeared to take naps in the shade. Tom was never a man of many words; he expressed his love through his actions and could be found at music performances, ball games, track meets, 4-H and FFA supporting his daughters and grandchildren at their activities. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Tom married Sharon W. Lackey in Sterling Colorado on April 28, 2000, and the couple settled on the farm near Lamar, Nebraska. Following Tom’s retirement from farming, he and Sharon made Imperial, Nebraska their home. They enjoyed various trips across the country frequently RVing from state to state visiting family and friends. Tom was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Tom passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the Country House Care Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Mona Lisa Torres, age 58, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on June 4, 2021 at Great Plains Health in North Platte surrounded by her loved ones. On this day many of her friends and family made their way to say “good-bye” to Mona, as she was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was born on March 12, 1963 to Tony Torres, Sr. and Josephine Torres (Torrez) at Memorial Hospital in North Platte.

Mona grew up and went to school in North Platte, graduating with the class of 1983. Mona had a passion to take care of people and for about 20 years she worked as nursing assistant working in long term care facilities. After Mona took on a couple jobs, due to crippling hands she could no longer work.

She was always the life of the party and loved to have a good time. Always bright, eccentric, and wild is how she will always be remembered. Her wild spirit will be missed by everyone.

Mona is survived by her lifelong significant other, Ben Yates; mother, Josephine; little brother, Tony, Jr.; little sister, Shirley; daughter, Leslie; sons, San and Blake (Vanessa) Suhr; grandchildren, Kianna, Cruiz, Aubriella, Azalea, and Freesia; step grandchildren, Angelo, Fabian, Gerber, and Genesis; and many friends, aunts, uncles, and a whole slew of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Tony, Sr.; multiple aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Twila Jean Smith passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at her home in Cozad, Nebraska at the age of 85. Twila was born April 23, 1936 at Lexington, Nebraska to Chris and Catharine (Weiland) Heine. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church in Lexington, Nebraska. Twila worked at Monroe Auto Equipment in Cozad for over 30 years. 

On May 27, 1991, she married the love of her life, Marvin Smith. 

Twila enjoyed crocheting, fishing, gambling, traveling, crafting, collecting dolls and family gatherings. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Cozad. Her book of life will be published in Heaven. 

Twila was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Gilbert Heine and Chris Heine Jr.; son, Tony Roe; stepdaughter, Cindy Parsons; granddaughter, Stacey Roe and son-in-law, Albert Ackerman.

Twila Jean Smith  (1936-2021)

Verlyn L. Cohn, age 73, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on June 5, 2021 in Denver, Colorado. He was born on May 29, 1948 in North Platte to Wilbur “Shorty” and Mary Jane (Stearns) Cohn of North Platte, Nebraska.

He grew up on a farm near Hershey, Nebraska and attended Hershey High School graduating with the class of 1966.

On March 26, 1968 he entered the United States Army, serving in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged on February 26, 1970.

Verlyn worked as a Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for 29 years.

On September 28, 1991, Verlyn was united in marriage to Brenda Kramer at The First United Methodist Church.

He loved traveling, camping, driving his motor home, fishing, playing cards and marbles, listening to Brenda perform music, dancing and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Verlyn is survived by his wife, Brenda of 29 years; daughter, Wendi of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Brandon (Staci) of Lincoln, Nebraska; and daughter Alicia of Lenexa, Kansas; mother, Mary Jane of North Platte, Nebraska; brothers, Dennis of Topeka, Kansas, Larry (Shirley) of North Platte, Nebraska, and Dannie of Divide, Colorado; sister, Kathy (Steve) Mentzer of North Platte, Nebraska; special friends, Jim Hahn of Omaha, Nebraska and&nbsp; Camille (Steve) Peterson of Longmont, Colorado; grandsons, Camden and Carter Cohn; granddaughters, Brittini and Tiffini; great-grandchildren, Alivia, Dawson, Zoey and Haleigh; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Verlyn L. Cohn  (1948-2021)

Robert C. Wright, age 88 of Chappell, Nebraska passed away on May 30, 2021 at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Mountain time on Monday, June 14, 2021 at the Chappell United Methodist Church with Pastor Ceciliah Igweta officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery with military honors.

Robert was born on September 9, 1932 in Aurora, Nebraska where his mother went back to have all three of her sons. Robert was the youngest of three boys born to Joe and Violet Wright. His parents began the family farm in 1910 where Robert grew up and worked his entire life.

When he was only twelve years old, his oldest brother, Max, was killed in WWII. Max was a P-38 Ace and had served a full tour in Europe before signing up to go to the Pacific. It was there that his plane went down. Robert was very proud of Max, and his service, and often talked about him.

In high school Robert was active in the FFA and played on the football team that one the state championship in 1950. He also earned the FFA State Farmer Degree. He attended both Colorado University and the University of Nebraska majoring in agriculture. He also served with the National Guard for a few years.

He then began his custom combining business with his brother, Don. They went to southern Oklahoma and northern Texas to begin cutting wheat and worked their way north until they got back to the local area to cut their own wheat. After a few years they developed their own businesses, with Don going onto a much larger scale of custom combining.

In 1960 he met a young school teacher named Norma King. On April 16, 1960 they were married in Sutherland, Nebraska. Norma devled right into the farm operation working along side her husband. Early in 1961 Robert was very much surprised to learn that Norma was pregnant with twins! Scott and Stan were born in August of that year. In November of 1962 their first daughter, Kristi, was born. Then in May of 1964 their youngest, Karla, was born.

Robert and Norma worked alongside each other for many years. As the years progressed the farm grew in size. Robert went south, custom combining wheat, for over thirty years. Then he still went to the area between Paxton and Hershey to pick corn until just a few years ago. In April, 2020 they had been married for sixty years.

Robert was preceded in death by Norma, who died February 7, 2021. His parents passed away in the mid 1960’s and also had lost his brother Max. In August of 2010 their youngest daughter, Karla died. 

He is survived by his twin sons, Scott and Stan, as well as his daughter, Kristi. He and Norma had eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah where their son, Scott, was helped with several surgeries.

Sam Simonson, age 74, of Mullen, Nebraska passed away at home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, in Mullen.&nbsp;

Sam was born February 23, 1947, in Alliance, Nebraska to Stewart O. and Ruby L. (Crain) Simonson. He lived in Mullen most of his life, graduating from Mullen High School in 1965 and attending Kearney State College. He worked on several ranches and on construction before coming back to the family ranch. During that time, he married Valerie (Debus) Simonson. To that union two children were born: Kristin Marie in 1982 and Shane David in 1988. He spent many years working with his dad before purchasing part of the ranch and cow herd. He then began running that ranch with his wife, Valerie and son and daughter.

Sam enjoyed rodeo his entire life: whether he was roping, watching on television, or sitting in the stands. In later years he attended NebraskaLand Days Rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days, Pendleton Rodeo, the NFR in Vegas and the Timed Event Championship in Oklahoma with son Shane. There were also a fair number of Junior Rodeos with his kids and recently he had started following Junior Rodeo again with granddaughter, Kinley. He was extremely proud of her accomplishments, and she always made him smile.

Sam loved kids and many $1 bills and candy bars went to his little buddies. He couldn’t avoid telling a good story to anyone who would listen. Some of his favorite stories are still repeated at the round table by friends, and the story telling wasn’t selective. Everyone was welcome to join in the visiting that followed.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. 

He is survived by wife, Valerie: daughter, Kristin Marie Simonson-Olson and granddaughter, Kinley of Ainsworth, Nebraska; and son Shane David of Kearney, Nebraska. He also survived by three brothers: Alan (Linda) Simonson and family of Gordon, Nebraska, George (Gloria) Simonson and family of Elm Creek, Nebraska, and Tim (Deanna) Simonson and family of Mullen, Nebraska; sister Linda (Larry) Jaster of Waco, Texas and family; in-laws Donald and Madonna Debus of Sterling, Colorado and their family; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He spent many hours in “his” chair at Red’s greeting and entertaining with stories and following the activities of granddaughter, Kinley. A memorial in his name has been established to help with youth activities in the area.

Denise Botts, age 70, of Ogallala, Nebraska passed away June 6, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Nebraska. Denise was born December 14, 1950, at Providence, Rhode Island. She attended school in the Providence area. In the mid 90's, Denise moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where she worked at Perkins County Hospital. She came to work as a cashier at Walmart, which was an excellent fit for her gregarious personality. She loved people and seemed to know everyone. Denise loved to spend time on her rose bushes and always had a special place in her heart for her dog, Emmie. Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth Caldwell, and a sister, Barbara Pickron. Denise Botts  (1950-2021)

Elaine Ann Nelson, age 82, a longtime resident of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad, Nebraska.

She was born on June 14, 1938, in Callaway, Nebraska, to Ernest and Rose (Sladky) Dodge. Elaine received her education from Callaway Public Schools, graduating from Callaway High School as Salutatorian with the Class of 1956.

Following her education, Elaine resided in Callaway and spent nearly the next fifty years working at the bank in Callaway, holding several positions during this time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Elaine was an avid reader and learner. She loved looking at photographs, especially of her family and from the trips they made throughout the years. Faith and family were very important to Elaine, especially family events. She attended nearly all the weddings, anniversaries, and graduations of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Elaine was very humble, always giving and caring for others. Elaine has left a tremendous legacy of love, and faith to her family.

She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Callaway.

Elaine leaves to celebrate her life; her siblings, Wilma Thomas of Clay Center, Kansas, Evelyn Miller of Gothenburg, Nebraska and Terry (Vickey) Dodge of Rock Hill, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Sheila Dodge of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Linda Dodge of Callaway, Nebraska and Karen Dodge of North Platte, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well many other relatives whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest “Ernie”, Dean, Wayne, Larry and Garry; sisters-in-law, LaVerne and Gerry Dodge. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Earl Pierce, with whom she was able to experience many new adventures over the years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams, officiating. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Rosemary Morrell  (1933-2021)

On Tuesday, June 2, 2021, Dora Ann "Dodie" Posell passed away at the age of 86.

Dodie was born on December 26, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Howard 'Olie' and Vera Adele (Himes) Olson.&nbsp; Dodie attended high school in Ellinwood, Kansas where she met and married high school sweetheart, Richard Yarmer in 1953.&nbsp; Together they had two sons, David and Robert, and one daughter, Diane.&nbsp; Dodie graduated high school from Sacred Heart Catholic Girls School in 1952.

A long-time Texas resident, Dodie moved to Clay Center, Nebraska in 2001 and later to McCook, Nebraska in 2018.&nbsp; Dodie had a passion for working with her hands, she loved to craft, sew and work puzzles.&nbsp; She was an accomplished china painter, winning many awards.&nbsp; Dodie especially enjoyed Jeopardy, NFL Football, and NASCAR races.

She was very active with her women's sorority and Catholic Church.&nbsp; She also enjoyed spending her time at the Clay Center Senior Center and volunteering with the Heartland Shares program.&nbsp; She was known for her quick wit, sharp memory, and the grandchildren's beloved candy jar.

Dodie was preceded in death by her father, Howard; her mother, Vera Adele; husband, Richard Yarmer; and second husband, Robert Powell.

She will be missed by her sisters, Nancy (Bill) Nelson and Jane Stephens; her children David (Sue) Power, Diane (Tom) Mattern, and Robert Powell; grandchildren Daniel Mattern, Seth (Linnaea) Mattern, Emily (Luke) Stricker, Stephanie (Eric) White, and Audrea (Rath) Cyrus; and great-grandchildren, Quinn, Calvin, Emma, Hugo, and Stella; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Brian Wirth officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Ellinwood Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 with Father Terrance Klein officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bonnie Magee Greco  (1936-2020)

Wendell C. Shamplo, age 93, of North Platte, Nebraska, a good and faithful servant, was called home to heaven on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Emerald Care Center, Cozad, Nebraska.&nbsp; Wendell was born to Clifford and Viva (Laser) Shamplo on October 19, 1926 in Prattville, MI.

He entered the United States Army at age 18 and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1946.&nbsp; On July 2, 1949 Wendell was united in marriage to Theresa M. Toner.&nbsp; To this union two sons and one daughter were born:&nbsp; Michael, James Dean and Wendellynn.

In 1955 they moved to Cypress, CA where he worked as a machinist for Armco Steel and retired in 1979.&nbsp; He was an active Deacon at 1st&nbsp;Baptist Church of Cypress and later Emanuel Baptist.&nbsp; Moving to North Platte, NE in 1996, he joined Calvary Baptist Church where he was active in many areas and especially enjoyed being the Sunday School Director and soundman for church services. &nbsp;For many years he volunteered at the Salvation Army was involved as a mentor with children for several years.&nbsp; He loved working in his garage on many projects and playing Canasta with family.

Wendell is survived by his wife Theresa; sons, Michael of North Platte and James of Anaheim, CA; daughter Wende (Patrick) Bailey of North Platte; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Justin) Buhlke of North Platte; grandson Sean (Sage) Bailey of Bellevue, NE; great grandson, Greyson Buhlke of North Platte; sisters Beverly Mullaly of Hudson, MI, Joyce (Bob) Shannon of Pittsford, MI, brother James Shamplo of Hillsdale, MI. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dean, sister-in-law Effie Shamplo, sister Margaret Bonner, brother-in-law Robert Bonner, brother-in-law John Mullaly and sister-in-law Mariam Shamplo.

Wendell C. Shamplo  (1926 - 2020)

Mary Ann Szwanek, age 85, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away May 31, 2021 at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte. She was born on April 16, 1936 to Gunner and Inez (Henry) Anderson in Callaway, Nebraska.

Mary graduated from Arnold High School with the class of 1954. She worked at the café in Arnold and met Adrian Frank Szwanek. They were married August 23, 1958 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold, Nebraska. The couple lived in Elba for a period of time and lived in bunk cars following Adrian with the railroad.

They settled in North Platte, Nebraska where Mary raised her family and went to work for St. Patrick’s Catholic Schools. She worked in the kitchen for many years.

Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and volunteered at the church. She loved to do puzzles and word puzzles. Mary will be remembered as a dedicated wife and mother.

Survivors include her children, David (Mary) Szwanek of North Platte, Nebraska,&nbsp; Kirk Szwanek of North Platte, Nebraska, Jeff (Robin) Szwanek of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Rod (Lori) Szwanek of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Gary (Angel) Keith of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Danny Keith of Las Vegas, Nevand, James “J.D.” (Michelle) Szwanek of North Platte, Nebraska, Tara Mills of Nesbit, Mississippi, Heather (Dennis) Razes of Maywood, Nebraska, Andrea (Josh) Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Doug (Libby) Szwanek of Lincoln, Nebraska, Megan Szwanek of Omaha, Nebraska, and Adam Szwanek of Omaha, Nebraska; numerous great grandchildren; sisters in law, Joan Anderson of Denver, Colorado and Joan Anderson of Gothenburg, Nebraska; as well as many other family members and friends.

Mary Ann Szwanek  (1936-2021)

Marilyn J. Slater, age 89, of North Platte, NE passed away on June 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. She was born on December 9, 1931 on a farm north of Elise, NE to John and Josephine Henderson.

She graduated from Elise High School. After graduation she moved to North Platte, NE and graduated from the School of Commence. In 1959 she was baptized at the Methodist Church. On December 9, 1952 she married Conrad Slater. He was the love of her life. They were married almost 62 years.

Marilyn worked at the Lincoln County Courthouse for 36 years. She finished her career as Deputy Clerk in the assessor’s office. After retirement she worked part time at Janet’s Hallmark. She made some very special friends with the people she worked with.

She was a member of the PTA for several years, and received PTA Life Membership. She was a member of Bethel Church where she loved her Bible studies with many dear friends. She belonged to the Winter Dance Club, Christian Woman’s and UP Old Timers. She volunteered for many years at church helping with funeral dinners and wedding receptions. She had a passion for cooking and baking. She loved having holidays at her home. Marilyn loved sports- Nebraska’s baseball and Nascar racing, her family was her life. She was an amazing strong woman with a heart of gold. She touched so many hearts. She loved being a grandma and great-grandma and was wonderful with all. We loved her dearly and she will be missed beyond words.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; mother and father; and her sister and brother.

She is survived by son, Steve (Kim) Slater of Omaha, NE; daughter, Tammy (Phillip) Hamburger of North Platte, NE; grandsons, P.J. (Kayli) Hamburger of Lincoln, NE, Tyler (Jillian) Hamburger of North Platte, NE, Michael Slater of Omaha, NE, Christopher Slater of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Stephanie Slater of Omaha, NE; six great-grandchildren, Hadley, Hendryx and Hayden Hamburger of Lincoln, NE, Aftyn, Laine and Cayse Hamburger of North Platte, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn J. Slater  (1931-2021)

Edward E. Perrault, age 90 of North Platte, NE passed away on June 1, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born on September 20, 1930 at North Adams, MA to Joseph and Olive (Bresette) Perrault. Ed attended Holy Family grade school and Drury High School in North Adams.

In 1947 he went on active duty with the U.S. Army and followed by a transfer to the newly formed United States Air Force in which he served for over 29 years. He participated in the later part of the Berlin Airlift, flew 25 combat missions as a crewmember on B-29 heavy bombers during the Korean war. He served in key assignments with the United States Air Force Europe, Strategic Air Command and the United States European Command.

On November 1964 he married forever life mate, Sondra Land of North Platte, NE and they made their home in Wichita Falls, TX, Wiesbaden, Germany and Stuttgart, Germany, Castle Air Force Base, CA and Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH where he retired from active military service.

Ed was later employed by the Air Force Aerospace Systems Command as a Systems Program Manager working on such programs as the C-5B aircraft flight simulator development and the C-17 cargo aircraft selection and procurement. He later became Deputy Director of the F-16 Foreign Military Sales Division managing programs with Venezuela, Indonesia, Korea, Pakistan, Japan, Greece, Egypt, Bahrain, Turkey and the NATO nations of Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. At his retirement in 1992 he was awarded the United States Air Force Outstanding Civilian Achievement Award.

He was a graduate of Park University, Parkville, MO with a BA in Business Management and from Central Michigan University with a master’s degree Business Administration. He also attended the Air Force Institute of Technology where he studied aerospace systems development and logistic technologies.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Sondra (Land) Perrault; sons, Rick, Joseph and Edward Jr,; daughters, Ann and Elizabeth; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; sister, Christine(Richard) Simon.

He considered his most memorable experience to be his participating in the Berlin Airlift flying resupply out of Wiesbaden, Germany and Operation Snowbound, in Wyoming during the winter of 1949, getting air dropped hay to cattle. This included the ranching areas around Torrington, Lusk and Casper, WY.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, NE with The Reverend Joshua Brown Celebrating. Savanna J. Fellows-Osburn, age 25 of Norfolk, Nebraska passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

She was born April 27, 1996 in Lexington, Nebraska to Jason Patterson and Shamane Fellows. She graduated from Lexington High School (midterm) in 2014 and attended nursing school at Central Community College, where she received her CNA. After that she moved to Norfolk, Nebraska.

Savanna is survived by her mother, Shamane and step father Eric Bryson of Lexington, Nebraska;&nbsp; Fiance, Zachariah Osburn of Norfolk, Nebraska; children Paisley and Grayson; three step-children; two brothers; Nathan Patterson and Jordan Patterson, both of Lexington, Nebraska; three sisters; Kaelynn and husband Peter Cain of Aitkin, Minnesota, and Hillary Patterson and Bridget Patterson both of Lexington, Nebraska; one step sister; Sarah Gray of Lincoln, Nebraska; as well as many friends.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Donald Sitzman, age 84, of Culbertson, Nebraska passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 29, 2021 at his home in Culbertson.&nbsp; He was born on April 23, 1937 to George, Jr. and Wilma (Butler) Sitzman in Culbertson, Nebraska.&nbsp; Don attended school in Culbertson and graduated high school with the Class of 1954. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On May 28, 1960, he married Norma Elaine Patterson at Golden, Colorado and two children, Vicki and Randy, joined the union.&nbsp; Not long later, three more children would come along: Tonya, MeLinda, and Colette. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Don was employed by Andy's Distribution of McCook, Nebraska for 14 years and by Hitchcock County in the Road Maintenance Department for over 20 years.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and fisherman.&nbsp; Don loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could camping and boating.&nbsp; He enjoyed Husker football, playing horseshoes, and golf. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After retirement, Don and Norman became snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona for 12 years and enjoyed every minute of it.&nbsp; They met many people and made countless friendships with other couples from the United States and Canada. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Don was a member of the Elks in McCook, Nebraska, the Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.&nbsp; He and Norma were the Culbertson 4th of July Honor Couple in 2017. &nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim Sitzman; daughter, Collette Cae Sitzman; and grandson, Christopher J. Donald Sitzman  (1937-2021)

Lawrence R. Cronk, age 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Emerald Rehab &amp; Nursing home in Columbus.

Larry was born August 25, 1933, at McIntosh, North Dakota to Charles and Elma (Krause) Cronk.

Following his education, Larry was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on January 27, 1953, and served his country until his honorable discharge on March 9, 1962. He was stationed in Guam.

He was united in marriage to Bernice J. (Lyons) on October 8, 1965, in Lexington, Nebraska. Two daughters were blessed to this marriage: Lana and Toni. They made their home in Lexington, where Larry worked for the Haymills. Before retiring, Larry worked at Wal-Mart in the Tire Department.

Larry enjoyed watching Westerns and was an avid Nebraska Husker Football fan.

Survivors include his daughters, Lana (Mike) Reed of Columbus, Nebraska and Toni Cronk of Hastings, Nebraska; three grandsons, Travis (Kensie) Reed of Edmond, Oklahoma, Tyler (Alexis) Reed of Columbus, Nebraska and Kyle (Iana) Reed of Columbus, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Jude, Addison, Aiden, Greyson, Theodore and Emerson; one brother, Loran Cronk of Lincoln, Nebraska; he also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice in 2014; two sisters, Bonnie and Betty and one great-grandson, Spencer.
