&nbsp; Betty (Reed) Fothergill, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Brookefield Park in Saint Paul, Nebraska.

Betty was born August 1, 1941, the 4th of 5 children, to George and Edna (Courter) Reed. She grew up on the family farm east of Lexington and attended District 3 school. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1959.

Betty was a mother, housewife, and worked odd jobs, including as a waitress at Coney Island and Big John’s in Grand Island, and as a baker at Karre City Bakery in Lexington. She started taking care of the elderly in their homes in the early 1990s and continued until she had to retire for health reasons in 2000. Betty enjoyed baking her famous banana bread, gambling at casinos, BINGO, and playing cards.

Survivors include her sons Joe (Becky) Krejci of Grand Island, Mike Krejci of Prescott Valley, AZ; daughters Lisa Krejci (Jason Collins) of Sacramento, CA, and Linda (Brian) Cornelius of Saint Libory; and sister-in-law Nola Reed of Lexington.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Marvin Krejci and Harold Fothergill; brothers Bob Reed, G. Tom Reed and Dick Reed; and sister Pat Rozell.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 10:30 am at Reynolds Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Sarah Neben, officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Elizabeth "Betty" Mae Fothergill (1941-2024)

Daryl Aaron Brown, 74, of Brule, passed away on April 16, 2024, in Denver, Colorado.

Daryl was born on November 18, 1949, in Ogallala, NE, to Philip A. and Pauline M. (Ross) Brown. Daryl received his early education at West Vail, District 61, and later graduated from Brule High School with the class of 1968.

In 1971, Daryl married Janelle Johnson, and they welcomed a son, Trenton Brown. The marriage ended in May of 1975.

Daryl attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, returning to Brule in the spring of 1973 and completing his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education in May 1976. He began his career working for Johnson Construction until 1974, when he purchased and remodeled a hardware store, which was formerly his grandfather Joshua Brown's pool hall. In 1978, after selling the hardware store, Daryl began farming the family farm. He dedicated 25 years to farming before joining Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a remote control engineer and conductor at Bailey Yards.

In 1978, Daryl married Jo Etta Latham, and they were blessed with two children, Ashlie Brown and Adam Brown.

Daryl was an integral part of his community, contributing nearly 25 years to the Brule Fire Department and nearly 50 years to the Brule Lions Club, where he served as an officer for many years. He was also a founding officer of the Brule Housing Authority and a member of the Nebraska National Trails Museum, the National Railroad Historical Society for over 25 years, the Elks Club, and the Kiwanis Club. His commitment to community service extended to his participation in the St. Luke's Catholic Church Choir and his substantial contributions as a blood donor, having donated nearly 10 gallons.

Daryl's hobbies included motorcycle riding, often visiting Sturgis, working with model trains-a passion for over 60 years-sailing, and flying as a private pilot.

Known for his quiet, thoughtful nature and dry sense of humor, Daryl often expressed pride in his children's achievements and their community involvement.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Pauline Brown, and his in-laws, Ralph and Edna Latham, as well as his brother-in-law, William E. (Nellie) Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Brown of Brule; children, Adam (Amanda Gilmore) Brown of Windsor, CO, Ashlie (Cody Butt) Brown of Denver, CO, and Trent (Shannon) Brown of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Clifford) Welsh; brother-in-law, Dennis Latham; two nephews and three nieces, along with many other relatives and friends.

Vicki Smith (1953-2024)

Stanley "Stan" Wilhelmson of North Platte peacefully passed way with his family at his side on April 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. &nbsp;He was 80 years old.

Stan, the son of Eldred and Odalite Wilhelmson, was born May 16, 1943, in North Platte where he was raised. &nbsp;He worked with his brother and dad on the farm south of town and graduated from N.P.H.S. in 1962. &nbsp;

In 1964, Stan was drafted into the U.S. Army, then sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, for basic training. &nbsp;In August of 1965 he was shipped to Vietnam and served in the 110th Air Weapons Company, 1st Cavalry Division as an Ammunition Storage Specialist. &nbsp;Due to a combat injury he received in Vietnam, Stan spent 18 months at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver recovering from his injuries. &nbsp;He was retired from the Army in 1967 and received a Purple Heart, among other service medals.&nbsp;

The day before he was drafted, Stan put a ring on his sweetheart's finger and promised her that he'd return. &nbsp;On August 18, 1968, Stan married Sally Sagesser in North Platte. &nbsp;They raised two children, Adam and Holly, and enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

Stan was employed at Fairmont Dairy for a few years then hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1979 and worked as a Clerk. &nbsp;After 29 years he retired, then worked at Lake Maloney Golf Course until the Fall of 2023.

Over the years Stan was a member of the Eagles, Moose, American Legion and First United Methodist Church. &nbsp;He loved being around people and often greeted them with a punch or vice-grip handshake, all in fun! &nbsp;And if you knew him, you knew Stan loved his grandkids, football games, family activities, meeting his friends for coffee every morning, and all things golf. &nbsp;He had the kindest heart and was always finding ways to help others. &nbsp;He appreciated the simple things in life and never took a day for granted. &nbsp;Stan was a fighter and fought until his last breath at the hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brother, Ed; brothers-in-law, Don Stenger and Larry Twidwell; and parents-in-law, Fred and Ila Fae Sagesser.

Stan leaves behind his loving wife, Sally; their children, Adam (Julie) of McCook and Holly Hartman (Jason) of Lincoln; grandkids, Jacie and Josie Hartman and Emma, Grace and Kaden Wilhelmson; his sisters, Loretta Stenger of North Platte and Willa Twidwell of Colorado Springs; sister-in-law, Betty Cornish (Les) of Grand Island; and other family members.

Stan Wilhelmson (1943-2024)



Kaylea Jo Ray Thompson, 16, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, on April 7, 2024.

Kaylea was born on July 19, 2007, in Phoenix, Arizona to Whitney Neale and James N. W. Thompson. She spent her early years with her mother and grandmother in Phoenix, Arizona. Kaylea came to live with Timothy and Barbara Thompson in 2017. She joined her sister, Payton and brother, James (JJ). She was adopted by Timothy and Barbara Thompson is 2018.&nbsp;

Kaylea attended AWANA, youth group, the Callaway Community Church, and also attended Callaway Public Schools. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was seven years old. It was challenging for her learning how to navigate controlling her blood sugar. She enjoyed being with her friends, playing games, shooting baskets, swimming, listening to music and drawing. She also enjoyed the time she had learning about horses, riding, and going to bible study.&nbsp;

Kaylea was preceded in death by her grandfather, Timothy Thompson; maternal great grandmother, Shirley Steele, and paternal great-grandparents, Leona Lugenbyhland and Bill and Anna Belle Zoerb.

Those left to mourn Kaylea are Whitney Neale of Phoenix; James N.W. Kaylea Jo Ray Thompson (2007-2024)

William G. “Billy” Edelman, 47, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away April, 12, 2024 at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born January 13, 1977 to Dickie Paul and Jean Ann (Christensen) Edelman in Grant, Nebraska. &nbsp;

Bill graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1995. &nbsp;He attended the University of Nebraska and was in the Ag Men Fraternity there. &nbsp;After college he returned to North Platte and went to work for the City of North Platte, training on the job to eventually become a lineman. Always the provider, Bill worked a second job with Neil Deertz wiring houses while Tabitha was in nursing school. For several years he managed the warehouse for Municipal Light &amp; Water. &nbsp;Later he went to work for Dutton-Lainson as a salesman, where he was currently working. &nbsp;Bill was united in marriage to Tabitha Beel on March 20, 1999 in Hershey, Nebraska. To this union two boys were born Rhett and Rhys. &nbsp; Bill loved his family and friends with all his heart and would do anything for anyone. &nbsp;He frequently helped strangers while out on the road working. &nbsp;He loved following his boys in their activities and was so proud of the men they are becoming. &nbsp;He taught them to be gentlemen and always show respect to others. &nbsp;He was a Husker Fan through and through and loved watching all Husker sports. His passion was golf and would play whenever he could whether alone or with others. &nbsp;From golf to music, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and dancing, he was always ready to be social. &nbsp;He could make friends with anyone he met, and did! &nbsp;He loved going to his grandparents’ home every summer when he was young and spent as much time with them as he could. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorials are suggested to the family for the future education of his boys, the Alzheimer’s Association, Hershey Volunteer Fire Department, or the North Platte Cowboy Church. &nbsp;&nbsp;

William "Billy" G. Edelman (1977-2024)

If you hand Grant Strunk an old book – something with some weight to it, maybe some crumbling pages – he will open it up and hold it close to his face. It’s not because he can’t see the words, but because he wants to smell the ink.

For, you see, it’s the printer’s ink that Grant loves.&nbsp;

It’s that smell that evokes his earliest memories, memories of his dad coming home after work at the newspaper.

It’s the black oiliness that reminds him of wiping drops of ink off the pressroom floor before going to school every morning.

It’s printer’s ink that runs through Grant’s veins, a family legacy passed on by his grandfather, Harry D. Strunk, founder in 1911 of the Red Willow Gazette (later to become the McCook Daily Gazette). Following Harry’s death in 1960, his son, Allen D. Strunk, took over the reins as publisher. Grant was just 1 ½ years old.

Grant grew up at the Gazette. He remembered recently, “There wasn’t a job at the paper that I hadn’t done, or couldn’t do,” from delivering papers as a kid to working as co-publisher with his brother, Harry, also known as “Rocky.”

After graduating from McCook High School in 1977, Grant earned a degree in graphic arts at North Dakota College of Science in Wahpeton, N. Dakota. He worked for a time at the Alliance, Nebraska, Times-Herald before returning to McCook.

Back at the Gazette, Grant took pictures, developed film and printed pictures for the newsroom, ran the press and served as mechanical superintendent and mechanic. He filled in from time to time as sports editor.

Grant was an outstanding photographer, learning the basics as a young kid using a Kodak “point-and-shoot” box camera. He “graduated” to his favorites, Leica and Nikon cameras. He published several books of his best photographs.

Grant and Rocky were third-generation publishers of the Gazette, which passed from family ownership in 1986. Rocky died on May 2, 2014, at the age of 56. Now, Grant’s death on Monday, April 15, 2024, marks the end of an era … a family legacy of service to readers throughout Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas, and a heritage of paper and ink … definitely ink.

Grant John Strunk was born on Jan. 19, 1959, and died Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 65. He is the son of Norma Rose (Bobinmeyer) and Allen D. Strunk, and the grandson of Harry D. Strunk, conservationist and founder of the McCook Daily Gazette.&nbsp;

At MHS, Grant excelled in football, basketball, track and swimming.&nbsp;

Grant was the originator of the Norris Avenue and East H monument honoring his grandfather’s achievements in conservation and journalism.

Grant supported many community projects, including the construction of the wheelchair platform at Weiland Football Field, and the funding of scholarships at McCook Community College.

Grant contributed generously to the McCook Humane Society, Santa Claus Lane (a pet project of his mother), Thursday Night Supper, Share the Heat, the Backpack for Students Program and the McCook Toy Box. He purchased new coats for children – at least 100 a year for 10 years – for the community Coat Closet project. &nbsp;Over the past several years Grant anonymously purchased 92 monuments for unmarked infant and veteran graves in McCook and surrounding cemeteries. &nbsp;

Grant enjoyed daily coffee with Bob, playing golf, spending time at the lake and traveling across the country in search of one of his many incredible photos. &nbsp;

Grant was preceded in death by his mother, Norma; his brother, Harry “Rocky”; his former wife, Jan Allen Strunk; his stepbrother, Steve Allmond and his lovable companion Buddy.

He is survived by his father, Allen D. Strunk, and stepmother, Linda, of Las Vegas, Nev.; his daughters, Deanna Martin, and husband, Sheldon, of Danbury, NE and Kristen Rose Mohr, of Sioux City, IA; his sister, Julie Strunk of North Palm Beach, FL; his stepbrother, Greg Allmond of Wake Forest, NC; three grandsons, Devon Andrew Strunk and wife, Elizabeth, Austin Allen Kreutzer, and Carter Grant Martin; one great-grandson, Archer John Strunk; and his nieces and nephews; and special friend, Connie Jo Discoe, of McCook.

A final farewell book signing with family present to greet friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.&nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Mike Roth, officiating. &nbsp;

Grant J. Strunk (1959-2024)

Donald Leroy Hubert, 84, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away April 15, 2024 at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born December 12, 1939 to Albert and Dorothy Ruth (Blanchard) Hubert, in Belleville, Kansas.

Don graduated from high school in 1956. &nbsp;He entered the United States Army in 1959, he was stationed in Germany. &nbsp;After his discharge he returned to North Platte. &nbsp;Don met Martha Fisher and they were married on October 6, 1963 at the Nazarene Church in North Platte. &nbsp;He worked as a mechanic at Green’s in Grand Island, Stars in Lincoln and in Fremont. &nbsp;Then moved back to North Platte where he hired out as a machinist with the UPRR. &nbsp;Don always had side jobs and a Thursday-Friday trash job around the area. &nbsp;Don started Trap Shooting in 1954, shooting over 250,000 registered targets. &nbsp; He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. &nbsp;Always helping others, especially with their mechanical issues.

Donald Leroy Hubert (1939-2024)

Anthony "Tony" Lingbloom, 38, of Phoenix, AZ, departed this life on July 7, 2023, at his home in Phoenix, AZ.

Tony was born on December 12, 1984, in Lincoln, NE, and moved to Phoenix, AZ with his family in 1986. Tony graduated from Estrella Foothills High School [EFHS] in Goodyear, AZ, in 2003, and shortly after, gained employment with Harkins Theatre and worked as a doorman for over 12 years.

Despite requiring the use of a wheelchair for a majority of life, Tony was a vivacious young man who enjoyed socializing with online gaming friends, as well as watching the WWE, Phoenix Suns, and Arizona Cardinals sports teams. Everyone who knew Tony understood that all other activities ceased when his favorite teams were playing a game.

Tony was well-known for his "thousand-watt" smile and laid-back attitude. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and exemplified the definition of one that met life's challenges with grace and courage.

Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Shirley Lingbloom and John and Lillian Steele.

Tony is survived by his parents, John and Elaine (Lingbloom) Steele, brother Shayne; uncles Jim (Kim) Lingbloom and Tom (Trudy) Lingbloom, as well as numerous family members and friends who touched his life in a positive way.

A graveside service will be held at the Elsie Cemetery on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Bill Williams officiating.

Mardelle Yvonne Miller, age 86 of rural McCook, NE passed away on April 12, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.&nbsp;

Mardelle was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1937 in Elwood, NE to parents Theodore and Elsie Emma (Schultz) Hilker. She was one of five children. &nbsp;

On September 29, 1953, Mardelle married Joseph E. Corey in Tucumcari, NM. The family made their home in McCook. Following Joseph’s death, Mardelle married Charles Miller on June 27, 1990 in McCook. &nbsp;

Mardelle was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and artistry. Mardelle was a gifted artist who created numerous blankets for her family over the years. She was featured on the cover of Women’s Circle Magazine two separate times, highlighting her creativity. Mardelle was also very musical. She played several different instruments but particularly enjoyed the trumpet. &nbsp;

Mardelle was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Joseph Corey; brothers, Roland Hilker, Carl Hilker and one brother in infancy; son, David Corey; daughter, Naomi Corey; three granddaughters, Stacy Schmidt, Sidney Robison and Andrea Fine; and a grandson, Billy Farr.&nbsp;

Mardelle Miller (1937-2024)

Angelia “Angie” Sue Head of Cozad passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney at the age of 58. Angie was born September 22, 1965 in Cozad, Nebraska to Doug and Darla (McNulty) Bowden. On May 3, 1982, she married Casey Joe Putnam in Julesburg, Colorado. Their union was blessed with a son, Michael. &nbsp;On October 10, 2008, Angie married James “Jimmy John” Head. Over the last few years, Angie worked as a housekeeper at Roadway Inn before leaving to go to work at the Cozad Grand Generation Center where she was the head cook, before her health forced her to leave. Angie was always helping others without ever asking for anything in return. She had a heart of gold and the most contagious smile that could light up any room. She enjoyed working with the employees at the center and convinced them to go together and purchase My Day tickets as a group. They lost more than they won, but certainly had fun trying. Just like her parents, Angie loved the gamble of lottery, sometimes she’d win and sometimes she’d lose. Beyond everything else in her life, Angie loved her family the most. She always talked about how proud she was of her son Michael and her three grandkids, McKenzie, Kyson and Kearson. It didn’t matter what was going on in her life, Angie always worried more about them and others, more than she ever did herself. Anytime she would talk about her family, she always had a big smile on her face because they were her everything. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends and anyone else that had the honor to know her.

Survivors include her husband, James of Cozad; son, Michael Putnam of North Platte; 3 grandchildren, McKenzie, Kyson and Kearson Putnam, all of North Platte; step daughter, Michelle Head of Omaha; sister, Lisa (Tim) Wolf of Cozad; 2 very close friends, Joe Putnam of Cambridge and Mitch Helmuth of Cozad; her beloved cat Ziggy and numerous other family members and many friends. John P. Johnson, a man of many talents and passions, peacefully passed away on April 10, 2024, at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp;

John was born on October 9, 1943, in South Gate, California to parents Malachi S. and Eva (Rogalski) Johnson. He was one of two brothers. He attended college following his high school graduation.&nbsp;

John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 before being honorably discharged. His military service was a testament to his dedication to his country and his sense of duty towards others.

John married Christine L. (Lorenzo) Johnson on October 21, 1978 in Vallejo, California. Even though the couple did not have children, they loved many furbabies over the years.&nbsp;

During his career, John embraced a variety of professions including working as a small engine mechanic and a computer programmer for Sun Micro Systems. He also found joy in truck driving and earned the endearing nickname "handlebar" for his signature handlebar mustache which he proudly sported for over five decades. His commitment to his work and the relationships he built along the way left an indelible mark on those around him.&nbsp;Beyond his professional pursuits, John was an individual who valued community. Known for his love for people, he dedicated his time to driving the handibus in McCook, showcasing his selfless nature and willingness to serve others.&nbsp;In addition to his work life, John had a deep passion for hobbies that brought him immense joy. He was an active member of several model railroad clubs throughout the years and took pleasure in riding motorcycles. In his youth, he even ventured into desert racing in the Mojave Desert, displaying his adventurous spirit and zest for life.&nbsp;John is survived by his beloved wife, Chris Johnson of McCook, NE; sister, Kathleen (Duncan) Blue of Watsonville, CA; niece, Bres; nephew, Josh.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Johnson.

Alvin Earl Fahrenbruch, age 98, of McCook, NE passed away on April 16, 2024 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Alvin was born September 15, 1925 in Culbertson, NE to parents Carl J. and Julia (Hock) Fahrenbruch. He was one of five children born to the union.

On September 28, 1947, Alvin married Sara Jeanine Creighton in Atwood, KS. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Ramona Louise and Julia Beth. The family made their home in Colorado, before Alvin and Jeannine returned to Nebraska in 1988. &nbsp; At the beginning of his career, Alvin worked as a farmer, gas station attendant, oil rigger, truck driver and grocery store manager before entering into a partnership with a food brokerage firm (KBF) in Denver. He later sold his share of the firm and retired, ultimately moving back to Nebraska with Jeanine, first to Culbertson and then to McCook. Alvin enjoyed fishing, camping and touring various parts of the country in their RV. Alvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Culbertson.&nbsp;

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannine; brothers, Adolph and Elmer Fahrenbruch; and sisters, Rachael Steinke and Elsie Violet, who died in infancy.&nbsp;

It is with profound sadness that the family of Victoria B. Shockley of Paxton, Nebraska, announces her passing on April 13, 2024, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 72. Born to the late Beatrice and Ralf Stephenson in Ogden, Utah on August 11, 1951, Victoria, affectionately known as Vicki, lived a life characterized by wit, kindness, and a carefree spirit.

Vicki was greeted in Heaven by her parents and her brothers, Mike and Jeff Stephenson. She leaves behind a legacy of love, including her devoted son, Dana Oliveira (partner Tiffany Dancer); her beloved brothers, Wes Johnson and Morris Johnson; her treasured granddaughters, Kierstin Pike, and Jocelyn Oliveira; in addition to 4 much-loved nieces.

After graduating from Mt. Tahoma High School in Washington, Vicki embarked on a career that saw her employed at Sea Port Records in Portland, Oregon, until her move in 1992 to Paxton, Nebraska. Here, she explored several professional avenues, finally dedicating years of service to Henkes Grocery Store until her retirement.

An avid gardener and lover of the simple pleasures of life, Vicki found solace in the soil and joy in the blossoms. Her hobbies also included online shopping and most importantly, engaging in heartfelt conversation with her close circle of friends and family, whom she adored above all else.

The family will hold a celebration of life to honor Vicki's memory, with the date to be announced in due course.&nbsp;

Jacqueline Reynolds (1942-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kathleen “Kat” Bradley was born on June 23, 1961 in McCook, Nebraska to James and Deloris (Dauphineais) Biggins. &nbsp;She attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1979. &nbsp;Kat was united in marriage to Doug Bradley on December 11, 1999.&nbsp; The couple made McCook their lifelong home.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting guns for sport. &nbsp;She loved time spent with family and friends as well as reading a good book. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat passed away on April 7, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. &nbsp;She was 61 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jimmy Biggins.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat is survived by her husband, Doug of McCook; son, Jesse Hayden and longtime partner, Christina Lee of McCook; daughter, Randi Crawley and husband, Colin Crawley of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Alex Wagner, Aubrie Hake, Sage Hayden, and Sawyer Hayden; and a half-brother, Steve Fleek of Seward, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kathleen “Kat” Bradley was born on June 23, 1961 in McCook, Nebraska to James and Deloris (Dauphineais) Biggins. &nbsp;She attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1979. &nbsp;Kat was united in marriage to Doug Bradley on December 11, 1999.&nbsp; The couple made McCook their lifelong home.&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting guns for sport. &nbsp;She loved time spent with family and friends as well as reading a good book. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat passed away on April 7, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. &nbsp;She was 61 years of age.&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jimmy Biggins.&nbsp; &nbsp; Kat is survived by her husband, Doug of McCook; son, Jesse Hayden and longtime partner, Christina Lee of McCook; daughter, Randi Crawley and husband, Colin Crawley of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Alex Wagner, Aubrie Hake, Sage Hayden, and Sawyer Hayden; and a half-brother, Steve Fleek of Seward, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and a celebration of life service is being planned for June. Born on February 26, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a true force of nature from the get-go, courtesy of Richard and Beatrice (Jacobs) West.

Rita's love for her large family was as vibrant as her personality, especially her brother Roy, whom she always hoped to reconnect with. Rita held her faith close to her heart, and her well-thumbed Bible was as steadfast a companion as her quick-witted, spicy sarcasm.

After seasoning the streets of Tucson, Arizona, for 25 years with her fiery charm, Rita decided it was time for a change of scenery and shifted her base to Nebraska. Here, she continued to spice up the lives of her many friends and caregivers, who found her spirit and sharp humor utterly irresistible.

Rita often said she couldn't wait to see her mama again, and while those of us left behind might not be ready to let her go, we take comfort in knowing there's one heck of a reunion happening on the other side. In lieu of flowers, requests that donations be made to a local cancer charity, in hopes of giving cancer the boot once and for all.

Cremation was chosen. Services are pending. &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home will be orchestrating Rita’s final standing ovation. &nbsp;We'll miss her fiercely.

Jentry Lobner, 46, of Lewellen passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 in Denver.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Lewellen Tiger Den with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating.&nbsp; Private burial in the Fairview Cemetery will be held prior to the service.

Jentry Alexander was born December 12, 1977 in Ogallala to Conrad and Peggy (Frahm) Lobner. &nbsp;He joined Stephanie and Cameron and completed the family. &nbsp; He was raised on the family ranch north of Lewellen attending at District 38 the went in to town and graduated from Lewellen Rural High School in 1996.

After high school he joined his family working on the 07 Ranch working next to his father and brother. &nbsp; For the last few years, Jentry ventured off and pursued his passion for ranching on his own. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In March 2009 he met Tiffany Fisher of Lewellen, and they began a family together welcoming son, Alexander Conrad in 2012. &nbsp;Together they raised Dominic, Olivia, Daniel and Alex on their family farm.

Jentry is survived by his wife, Tiffany of Lewellen, parents, Peggy and Conrad Lobner of Lewellen; children, Dominic, Olivia, Daniel and Alex all of Lewellen, siblings, Stephanie Lobner and partner Christina Nord of Lewellen, &nbsp;Cameron and wife Lacey Lobner of Lewellen; nieces and nephews, Wyland, Wilsie, and Willow; uncle, Aaron Lobner and family; aunt, Garnet Storer and family; &nbsp;mother and father in law, Gary and Patty Fisher of Lewellen; brother-in-law, George Fisher; and other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alex and Miller Lobner, maternal grandparents Clayton and Opal Frahm, and uncles Bryce Frahm and Welby Anderson.

Nita Susan (Wroot) Miller, 68 of North Platte, went home to be with her Lord &amp; Savior Jesus Christ, on April 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family, after losing her battle against endometrial cancer. &nbsp;She was born, March 6, 1956, in Hastings, Nebraska to Marie Jane (Batterman) and Eugene Willis Wroot. &nbsp;She lived in Hastings, then Arkansas, later in Colorado with her husband Jim. &nbsp;Then the couple settled in North Platte to be close to her family and loved ones.

Nita was a devoted member of Parkview Nazarene Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Her mission was to bring everyone to The Lord. &nbsp;She was a devout person of faith. &nbsp;Praying for and helping anyone who had a need. &nbsp;Her prayer group was a very special part of her life. She learned from them, and she shared with them. &nbsp;Nita walked her walk with the Lord in everything she did. &nbsp;Nita was the best person. &nbsp;She always had a happy smile on her face. &nbsp;When you spent time with her, most likely that time was exchanging stores of kids, grandkids, her niece and nephews, and most recently the newest addition to her circle of love was her great nephew. &nbsp;Her pride was in their lives and their accomplishments This was evident in everything around her. &nbsp;Pictures, LOTS of pictures on the walls and on the fridge. &nbsp;She made each child feel special. &nbsp;Casey, Kylie, Kade, Mike and David, affectionately call her “Dig” or “Nini”. &nbsp;They could all tell stories of her spoiling them rotten, venturing out in the middle of the night to pick up ice cream, always being there for them in every situation. &nbsp;Her family was her heart. &nbsp;She will always be theirs. &nbsp;She and Jim had a wonderful life. &nbsp;The couple was married for 38 years. &nbsp;They raised their family and built a life of love and respect for each other. &nbsp;Nita loved their “Little House on the Prairie.” Gardening, both food and flowers, brought her joy. &nbsp;Being outdoors with all of the things God had put in her view, gave her strength when hers was failing. &nbsp;Nita Miller was a fighter for the lives of unborn Children. &nbsp;She was a vital part of the PRO-LIFE movement;&nbsp; making sure that everyone in charge of anything to do with PRO-LIFE knew her name. &nbsp;As she stepped through the Gates of Heaven, she heard the words, “Well done, thy Good and Faithful Servant.”

Dianne E. “Nanna” Cline, aged 71, of North Platte, passed at Linden Court on April 14, 2024. &nbsp;She was born in Rocky Ford, CO to Ivan and Georgine (Thrasher) Walker on May 14, 1952.

Survivors of Dianne include her children, Danny (Dana) Walker of Eddyville, Johnny (Kathy) Cline of Eddyville, LouAnne Cline of North Platte; grandchildren, Katie (Jason) Hissong, Dalton Walker, Chris Walker; great grandchildren; sister, Jannet (Bruce) Peck of North Platte; brothers, Clifford (Peggy) Walker, William Walker, Roger (Diane) Walker, all of Cozad; sister-in-law, Patricia Walker of Smith Center, KS; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dianne "Nanna" E Cline (1952-2024)

Clare Hinman Mesmer, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska, died on April 11th, 2024 at Great Plains Health. Surely heaven’s chorus is sounding more vibrant for it. &nbsp;She was born in 1934 to York and Helen Hinman in North Platte, Nebraska. She involved herself in church activities, Jobs Daughters, Camp Fire, and 4-H in which she won trips to the State Fair in music, sewing, and cooking. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1952 where she was active in many activities including vocal and instrumental music.

Clare graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education. She was president of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and involved in many campus organizations including Mortar Board Society. She sang in many groups, including the First-Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln. &nbsp; On July 14th, 1956, she married Theodore Joseph Mesmer in North Platte. Their family grew as they raised three children: Elizabeth, John and Helen Ann. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She taught for 5 years in North Platte as a speech pathologist, then later for 4 ½ years for ESU 16. Her community activities included: P.E.O. Chapter EB, Junior Women’s Club, Goodfellow Shoe Fund, an organizing member of the Chamber of Commerce Hostesses, a Campfire leader for 10 years, and a Boy Scout den mother. If she wasn’t sewing badges onto uniforms, she was organizing activities and outings, and corralling neighborhood kids to play and eat at 814 W. 2nd. She made that house a home where all were welcome. Quite frequently, the home was stuffed with family feasting in the formal dining room with the kids eating in the backroom. The roaster was going, the stovetop was full and the oven was hot. Mesmers, Armstrongs, Hinmans, Reeds, and Carters came, watched the Huskers and reveled in the joyous, rambunctious atmosphere of family loving each other.&nbsp;

In 1979, the family moved to Gallup, New Mexico, where they owned/operated a Holiday Inn. Instead of being intimidated by the new environment, Clare dug in and taught us one of the most valuable lessons she could have: bloom where you’re planted. In Gallup, she became a member of P.E.O. Chapter T. She embraced the culture and people of New Mexico so wholly, her Navajo friend and husband hosted a ceremony in honor of her family. She ensured we experienced all aspects of the Four Corners area and tribal life (as much as we were welcome to) and made sure we respected other customs and traditions. She was asked to help with the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial jewelry show, in which she almost knocked Robert Redford over. She hosted many friends and family in which she embraced the local cuisine whole-heartedly, even after she mistook jalapenos for green chilis in a recipe. &nbsp;In 1983, the family moved to Taos, N.M., still involved with Holiday Inns. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped at the hotel wherever possible. The family bought a half-built property in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in which she transformed into a large, comfortable home in which many visited and enjoyed her hospitality. When times became tough, Joe went to Mesa ahead of her and she ran the Taos hotel until we were ready to join him in Arizona. &nbsp;In Arizona, Clare taught for 15+ years, retiring on 5/30/2002. She was a beloved member of P.E.O. Chapter AL in Tempe, AZ. She had her Realtor license as well served as a tour guide for a short period of time for Pointe Resorts. She loved the arts community and went to countless musicals and plays. She saw the Monet, Keith Haring, Annie Leibowitz exhibits, and many others and made sure we each could see them as well. When we attended the opera (whether in Santa Fe or in Phoenix), she would have us read the libretto so we’d understand the plot.

In 2005, Clare and Joe returned to North Platte. She demitted to P.E.O. Chapter EB, was involved as a hospital volunteer, and served as president and a buyer for Goodfellow Shoe Fund. She also spent time reading, playing bridge, and sewing. However, she was happiest spending time with family and friends. She loved watching Megan grow and succeed and she thrived under Megan’s care during the pandemic; she was care-taker to Tony and championed him as he grew healthier and became a young adult; and welcomed Nastia from shores afar and beamed with pride as she became a United States citizen.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children: Elizabeth (Boone) Dailey; John (Natalia) Mesmer; and Helen-Ann Mesmer; her grandchildren: Megan (Brittney Ogborn) Dailey, Anastasia Barmina (Arman), and Tony Mesmer; and her beloved sister Jeannie (Butch) Armstrong, Fred (Pam) Mesmer and Dick Reed, along with an abundance of nieces and nephews who all shared in her hospitality. Clare was especially loved by furrgrands Walter, Kyiv, and Frankie. Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; their infant son Theodore Joseph; her parents York and Helen Hinman; her in-laws Fred and Anne Mesmer; sister Diane Reed and brother Bob Hinman; and innumerable dogs who all knew her spirit was magical. Family suggests memorials to the Goodfellow Shoe Fund.&nbsp;

She sang in many groups, including the First-Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln. &nbsp; On July 14th, 1956, she married Theodore Joseph Mesmer in North Platte. Their family grew as they raised three children: Elizabeth, John and Helen Ann. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She taught for 5 years in North Platte as a speech pathologist, then later for 4 ½ years for ESU 16. Her community activities included: P.E.O. Chapter EB, Junior Women’s Club, Goodfellow Shoe Fund, an organizing member of the Chamber of Commerce Hostesses, a Campfire leader for 10 years, and a Boy Scout den mother. If she wasn’t sewing badges onto uniforms, she was organizing activities and outings, and corralling neighborhood kids to play and eat at 814 W. 2nd. She made that house a home where all were welcome. Quite frequently, the home was stuffed with family feasting in the formal dining room with the kids eating in the backroom. The roaster was going, the stovetop was full and the oven was hot. Mesmers, Armstrongs, Hinmans, Reeds, and Carters came, watched the Huskers and reveled in the joyous, rambunctious atmosphere of family loving each other.&nbsp;In 1979, the family moved to Gallup, New Mexico, where they owned/operated a Holiday Inn. Instead of being intimidated by the new environment, Clare dug in and taught us one of the most valuable lessons she could have: bloom where you’re planted. In Gallup, she became a member of P.E.O. Chapter T. She embraced the culture and people of New Mexico so wholly, her Navajo friend and husband hosted a ceremony in honor of her family. She ensured we experienced all aspects of the Four Corners area and tribal life (as much as we were welcome to) and made sure we respected other customs and traditions. She was asked to help with the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial jewelry show, in which she almost knocked Robert Redford over. She hosted many friends and family in which she embraced the local cuisine whole-heartedly, even after she mistook jalapenos for green chilis in a recipe. &nbsp;In 1983, the family moved to Taos, N.M., still involved with Holiday Inns. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped at the hotel wherever possible. The family bought a half-built property in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in which she transformed into a large, comfortable home in which many visited and enjoyed her hospitality. When times became tough, Joe went to Mesa ahead of her and she ran the Taos hotel until we were ready to join him in Arizona. &nbsp;In Arizona, Clare taught for 15+ years, retiring on 5/30/2002. She was a beloved member of P.E.O. Chapter AL in Tempe, AZ. She had her Realtor license as well served as a tour guide for a short period of time for Pointe Resorts. She loved the arts community and went to countless musicals and plays. She saw the Monet, Keith Haring, Annie Leibowitz exhibits, and many others and made sure we each could see them as well. When we attended the opera (whether in Santa Fe or in Phoenix), she would have us read the libretto so we’d understand the plot.In 2005, Clare and Joe returned to North Platte. She demitted to P.E.O. Chapter EB, was involved as a hospital volunteer, and served as president and a buyer for Goodfellow Shoe Fund. She also spent time reading, playing bridge, and sewing. However, she was happiest spending time with family and friends. She loved watching Megan grow and succeed and she thrived under Megan’s care during the pandemic; she was care-taker to Tony and championed him as he grew healthier and became a young adult; and welcomed Nastia from shores afar and beamed with pride as she became a United States citizen.&nbsp;Survivors include her children: Elizabeth (Boone) Dailey; John (Natalia) Mesmer; and Helen-Ann Mesmer; her grandchildren: Megan (Brittney Ogborn) Dailey, Anastasia Barmina (Arman), and Tony Mesmer; and her beloved sister Jeannie (Butch) Armstrong, Fred (Pam) Mesmer and Dick Reed, along with an abundance of nieces and nephews who all shared in her hospitality. Clare was especially loved by furrgrands Walter, Kyiv, and Frankie. Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; their infant son Theodore Joseph; her parents York and Helen Hinman; her in-laws Fred and Anne Mesmer; sister Diane Reed and brother Bob Hinman; and innumerable dogs who all knew her spirit was magical. Family suggests memorials to the Goodfellow Shoe Fund.&nbsp;Services are Thursday, April 18th, at 11am, Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with luncheon at The Moose following. &nbsp;When you smell lilacs, remember Clare in all her accepting ways.
