&nbsp; LaVonne Gail Jaeger was born on July 5, 1951, in Wray, Colorado to Gilbert A. and Violet V. (Trembley) Smith. She graduated from Haigler High School in 1969 and furthered her education at the Parker School of Business majoring in accounting. LaVonne worked for Frenchman Valley Coop in Imperial where she met Gary Lee Jaeger. They were united in marriage on July 5, 1973, in Haigler. They made their home in Haigler. Later, she cared for her mother on the farm until her passing. LaVonne owned and operated The Family Market in Haigler for many years until her retirement. LaVonne was a devoted Girl Scout in her youth and was a member of the United Methodist Church and VFW Women’s Auxiliary. In May 2018, the Haigler Alumni Association honored LaVonne from the Class of 1969 for her tireless efforts in maintaining a local Haigler grocery store, her support of the Haigler Alumni Association, and numerous community activities. She loved cooking, reading and her time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and cards during the holidays. LaVonne passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Nebraska. She was 71 years of age. LaVonne Gail Jaeger (1951-2023) 

Harvey J. Kenfield, age 95, of Ogallala, passed away peacefully at his home on June 5, 2023.

Harvey and his twin brother Howard were born on March 6, 1928, at Albion, Nebraska, to John and Ella (Fritzen) Kenfield. Harvey graduated from Brule High School in 1946. The call of duty followed shortly after, and Harvey was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Korea.

Upon his return, Harvey worked at TRW for 42 years until his retirement in 1988.

On October 12, 1974, Harvey married Glenda Lee Stephenson in Grant, Nebraska. By that union, Harvey gained two children, Scott and Melinda.

The bond between Harvey and his twin brother Howard was strong and enduring. Together they built several homes in the Ogallala area, including a beautiful residence for their mother. The brothers were meticulous in the upkeep of their properties, presenting beautifully landscaped and well-manicured yards.

Harvey and Howard's artistic talents shone brightly in their unique collection of Indian artifacts, Petrified Wood, and other rare artifacts. Their appreciation for the Midwest and its old barns inspired them to create Petrified Wood Pictures and Music Boxes, contributing to a collection that can only be described as a world-class marvel.

The brothers' artistic journey culminated in establishing the Kenfield Petrified Wood Gallery in 2000, with Harvey and Howard donating their personal collection of artwork to the gallery. His passion for collecting remained undiminished for over 65 years, earning him the respect and admiration of fellow artists and collectors. The brothers' legacy continues to be appreciated by the community through their generous contributions to the Gallery, which is now managed by a non-profit organization they formed.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda; his step-children, Scott Ross, and Melinda Beckler; four sisters, Dorothy (Max) Sanford, Donna (Clarence) Burnside, Ruby (Leslie) Edwards, and Margaret (Hubert) LeZotte; as well as a brother, Robert (Helen) Kenfield; a sister-in-law Glenva Kenfield; Nephews Norman Burnside, Steve Edwards and his twin brother, Howard Kenfield, in March of 2023.

Survivors include his brother-in-law Melvin Stephenson of Kearney, a son-in-law Gary Beckler of Grant, his granddaughter Cori (Chris) Williams of Ogallala, along with four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Harry T. Trisdale, 72, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away June 2, 2023 at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born June 17, 1950 in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Claude and Vola (Scott) Trisdale.

Harry’s family moved to North Platte when he was one year old. &nbsp;He was raised in North Platte and worked as a truck driver for many years. &nbsp;Harry was blessed with five children, Brian Trisdale, West Virginia, Amy Halton, Oklahoma, Samantha Trisdale, West Virginia, Darrell Trisdale, West Virginia and Bradley Trisdale, North Platte; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

He married Cheryl Parks in 1979. They shared 35 years of marriage, before divorcing in 2014, and were blessed with 3 children, Christina, Katrina and Matthew. Joel worked at ADM Alliance Nutrition in Cozad for over 30 years and then with Ag West Feed &amp; Supply at Willow Island. He never fully retired, keeping busy with small jobs here and there. Joel was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eleazar Cañas; sisters, Alicia Tucker and Lily Sardeson. Survivors include his children, Christina (Ryan) Wagener of CO, Katrina (Robert) Harbour of OH and Matthew Cañas of Cozad; grandchildren; Skylar, Ravyn and Luna Wagener, Jadyn Cañas and Nile Harbour; brothers, Joe (Mary) Cañas of Cozad, Tony (Kayleen) Cañas of Cozad, Nick (Nancy) Cañas of Cozad; sisters, Lisa (JR) Lopez of TX, Angie (Oscar) Orellano of Cozad; numerous nieces and nephews; and closest cousin, Baldemar Lopez.

Frances always loved animals and was more than happy to pick up strays of all kinds. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease and joke with everyone. &nbsp;She loved the Lord. She attended church regularly and was active in church herself. She especially loved singing hymns and participating in Christmas plays. &nbsp;She loved to dance and sing and she always whistled while she worked. It didn’t matter if she was scrubbing the floor or working on one of her wonderful, creative projects, she always whistled a beautiful tune! &nbsp;I’m sure she’s whistling a beautiful tune now! &nbsp;Memorial gifts can be given to the Callaway Community Church.

A memorial service will be held for her on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Callaway Community Church.

Frances Carol Smith (1930-2023)

David A. Wellman, 73, of Cozad, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at his home and is now at peace after a hard fought battle with illness.

He was born on January 20, 1950 in Santa Cruz, California, to Martin J. and Lois E. (Wiest) Wellman. At an early age his family moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. David attended public schools in Ogallala and graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1968.&nbsp;

Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy on September 25, 1969 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, where he spent nearly 18 months. He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1975.

David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Anne Galaviz on January 21, 1975 in Kearney, Nebraska. Two sons were blessed to this union: Zachary and Jesse. The family made their home in Ogallala for a few years where David put up Grain Bins. They moved to Lexington in the late 1970’s where David worked for Deeter’s Machine and Eilers Machine &amp; Welding Inc. as an accomplished welder. In 1990, his family moved to Cozad, David continued working for Eilers before spending 20 years at Tenneco Monroe Automotive in Cozad.&nbsp;

David was an avid outdoorsman. He loved going camping with his family and spending most of his days fishing, which was his passion. He enjoyed spending time outside working on his gardening and always kept an immaculate yard. If he wasn’t working in his yard, he would be working on his truck. When his children were younger, David never missed a moment to attend all their school activities. Dave had a witty personality and was a great conversationalist. He was known to leave everyone he talked to with a smile and maybe a couple of one-liners!

Survivors include his wife, Anne of Cozad; his boys, Zachary (Amber) Wellman of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jesse (Heather) Wellman of Cozad; three grandchildren, Cheyenne, Max and Temperance; four sisters, Kathy (Saad) Eways of Austin, Texas, Marsha (Bill) Border of Canton, Ohio, Barbara Wellman of Kearney, and Paula Wellman of Fredericksburg, Ohio; brother and sister in-laws, Domingo (Marcy) Galaviz of Gibbon, Antonia (Ray) Garcia of Lexington, Louisa (Nestor) Garcia of Ogallala, Josephine (Alan) White of Lexington, Carolyn (Mike) Smidt of Lexington, Rebecca Fitch of Lexington, Marilyn (Larry) Logan of Omaha, Ron (Cherie) Galaviz of Newbury Park, California, Rita Linley of Lexington, Natalie (Mike) Burns of Portland, Oregon and Deb Mettenbrink of Kearney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother and sister in-laws, Manuel Galaviz, Pauline (Robert) Wood, and Ken Fitch.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring David’s wish for cremation.&nbsp;

Wellman, 73, of Cozad, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at his home and is now at peace after a hard fought battle with illness.He was born on January 20, 1950 in Santa Cruz, California, to Martin J. and Lois E. (Wiest) Wellman. At an early age his family moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. David attended public schools in Ogallala and graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1968.&nbsp;Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy on September 25, 1969 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, where he spent nearly 18 months. He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1975.David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Anne Galaviz on January 21, 1975 in Kearney, Nebraska. Two sons were blessed to this union: Zachary and Jesse. The family made their home in Ogallala for a few years where David put up Grain Bins. They moved to Lexington in the late 1970’s where David worked for Deeter’s Machine and Eilers Machine &amp; Welding Inc. as an accomplished welder. In 1990, his family moved to Cozad, David continued working for Eilers before spending 20 years at Tenneco Monroe Automotive in Cozad.&nbsp;David was an avid outdoorsman. He loved going camping with his family and spending most of his days fishing, which was his passion. He enjoyed spending time outside working on his gardening and always kept an immaculate yard. If he wasn’t working in his yard, he would be working on his truck. When his children were younger, David never missed a moment to attend all their school activities. Dave had a witty personality and was a great conversationalist. Byron Joseph Schuckman, 68, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.

He was born on December 27, 1954 in Lexington, Nebraska, to Edward and Martha (Golka) Schuckman. He graduated from St. Ann’s High School, where he was an exceptional athlete, with the class of 1973. After graduation, he worked briefly for Dawson County Roads Department. He then began working for the City of Lexington where he stayed for the next 20 years. Wanting a change, he began working for the Lexington Area Solid Waste Management where he worked for several years before his health declined. Byron was a big fan of Husker football, riding his Harley and spending quality time with his beloved cat, Moxie.

Survivors include his brother, Barry (Dee) Schuckman of Lincoln, Nebraska; nephews, Derek (Abby) Schuckman of Fontana, California, Brady (Rebecca Gilbert) Schuckman of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Brynn Schuckman of Scottsdale, Arizona; great nieces and nephews, C.J., Emily, and Erica of Fontana, California , and his faithful cat, Moxie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Byron’s wish for cremation.

A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.

Byron Joseph Schuckman (1954-2023)

Loren Leroy Brown, age 87, of McCook, NE, formerly of Palisade, NE, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Kinship Pointe in McCook.

Loren was born June 1, 1936 in Lewiston, NE. In May 1941, Loren was adopted by Roy and Iona Brown from the Nebraska Children’s Home in Lincoln, NE.

Loren attended school in Palisade through the 8th Grade. He graduated high school in 1953 from the Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE. The following September, 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Along with serving stateside, Loren served overseas in Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Okinawa. Proudly serving his country, he was awarded three Air Force Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Award before retiring as an SMSgt (E-8) in September 1974.

On January 18, 1958, Loren married the love of his life, Lois E. (Silver) Brown at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. The couple became the proud parents of two children: Lorna and Lyle. The family supported Loren’s career in the Air Force, living in many different communities over the years.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Loren fulfilled a lifelong dream by returning to the family farm and ranch in Palisade. Loren became a licensed pilot in 1986 and along with farming and ranching, considered it to be one of his favorite hobbies. He was always willing to lend a hand and played an active role in the remodel of Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade as well as servicing as chairman of the church board and treasurer.&nbsp; Loren also served several terms on the Palisade School Board. He and Lois moved to McCook in 1995. Loren again retired in 2005.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law John Brandt.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Lois Brown of McCook; son, Lyle Brown of Casa Grande, AZ; daughter, Lorna Brown of Mitchell, NE; sister, Barbara Brandt of Ogallala, NE; and his three grandchildren, Bryan Myers and Myrah Brown, both of McCook, and Whitney Brown of Curtis.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to The Nebraska Children’s Home Society, 5106 Scott Street, Beatrice, NE 68310.

Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. The service will be live streamed on Peace Lutheran’s Facebook or Youtube channel.&nbsp;

Loren LeRoy Brown (1936-2023)

Betty Lou Kenton, 96, died at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte on June 4th, 2023.

She was born September 30th, 1926 in Drum, Missouri to Charles and Minnie (Thiele) Mabrey.&nbsp; She grew up in southern Missouri. During World War II her family moved to Richmond,&nbsp; California in hopes of seeing her three brothers who were all serving in the Navy. Her family moved back home to Missouri, where she went on to graduate from high school in St. Louis.&nbsp; In 1943, her brother Dale brought home his close shipmate, Orville Kenton, and two years later Betty and Orville were married December 21st, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. They had three children: Patricia, Larry and Joy. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Missouri and eventually returned to Orville’s home state of Nebraska. Betty went back to working outside of the home in 1965. She is most remembered in the community for her over 15 years of service with the Hershey Telephone Company where she retired as General Manager. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. &nbsp;After losing her husband (March 17th, 1998) Betty continued cherishing her grandchildren and attending their endless activities. She also looked forward to her weekly pitch games and enjoyed traveling and attending other activities with her friends.

Betty Lou Kenton (1926-2023)

Brad Burke, 62, of Cozad, Nebraska, formerly of Brady, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on February 25, 2023 at Bryan East in Lincoln, NE.

Brad worked with his father running their own business in Brady until his dad’s death. Then for over 20 years he worked in school maintenance.&nbsp;

Brad was a simple man who, although he left us too soon, lived a fulfilling life and will be remembered by many people in so many ways. Brad kept his faith in the Lord through all of life’s celebrations and hardships. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids any chance he was given. The best times of his life were being a part of his children's sports and other activities. He loved to go fishing and couldn’t wait for hunting season to begin. Brad’s favorite time of the year was spring because he could get his hands back in the dirt and start landscaping. During his many times of rehabilitation and healing, he remained positive, faithful and had no trouble finding hobbies that expressed his creativity. Brad had unmeasurable skills and talents but he enjoyed painting, drawing, and craftsmanship the most.

Many would say he was one of the hardest workers they knew and would give the shirt on his back to anyone that needed it. You never heard Brad complain about anything, no matter how difficult or painful. He was the guy you called when you needed help with a project or something needed fixed. If you didn’t have a project, he would find one for you. Brad may have been a man of few words but he was the best listener when you needed to talk, not to mention he gave some of the best hugs. He had a way of making you smile regardless of how upset or sad you were. A friend to all ages - it didn’t matter who you were, he never met a stranger. Brad touched the lives of so many and left a legacy of genuine love and kindness that he would want the rest of us to carry on in the world.&nbsp;

He is survived by his best friend and lifelong partner Sandy Burke of Cozad, NE; sons Keifer Burke of Brady, NE and Sawyer Burke of Cozad, NE; daughter Maggie Burke of Omaha, NE; grandson Theron Burke; granddaughter Charli Burke; brothers Tim (Julia) Burke of Doniphan, NE, Dave (Valerie) Burke of Brady, NE; sister Connie (Harry) Stienike of Brady, NE; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Brad Burke (1960-2023)

Cynthia 'Cindy' Cotton was 70 years old when she passed away at home in North Platte surrounded by her family on June 4, 2023.

Cindy was born in Gothenburg on August 30, 1952, to Robert and Dorothy Gustafson. &nbsp;She grew up in North Platte where she graduated from N.P.P.S. in 1970 then attended nursing school in Denver. &nbsp;Cindy later enrolled in the Lab Tech Program at Mid Plains Community College. &nbsp;She went on to work for the Brady Rural Health Clinic as a lab tech and office manager until retiring in 2016.

On October 12, 1972, Cindy was united in marriage to Keith Cotton in Denver, then they returned to North Platte in '75 and have lived here ever since. &nbsp;Cindy enjoyed watching sports on TV and her birds and squirrels. &nbsp;She loved her family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Gustafson.

Survivors include Cindy's husband, Keith, and daughters, Terra (Jason) McKenney of North Platte and Selene (Joseph) Salvatore of Elkhorn; her brother, John Gustafson of North Platte; grandchildren, Minnie, Owen, Emmett, Joshua and Andrew; as well as other family.

Robert “Bob” Hoblyn, age 84 of York, NE died Friday, June 2, 2023 at York. He was born September 27, 1938 to Ray and Delpha (Madsen) Hoblyn in rural Ansley, NE. &nbsp;He was united in marriage to Nancy Ward on February 15, 1964 in Ansley. &nbsp;

Bob proudly served our country in the United States Army. He raised livestock and was a farmer. He belonged to the Elks Club in Broken Bow and the Legion in Ansley. He was a school bus driver in Ansley and a dedicated 4-H leader. Bob was on the Ansley school board for many years and was also a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. After that he retired from farming in 1996 and started working for Bobcat Sales in Grand Island. In 1998, he moved to York where he worked for John Deere. He enjoyed all his various farming jobs, and worked for his son Larry, and also helped Rick Gruber during harvest.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Nancy of York, son Larry (Rita) Hoblyn of York, daughter Brenda (Jeff) Coufal of Lincoln, grandchildren Cassie (Brandon) Bohlke of Kingsley, IA, Jesse (Claire) Hoblyn, and Jami Hoblyn all of York, Brittany (Derek) Hansen and Tyler (Erin) Coufal all of Lincoln, great grandchildren Bayler, BlakeLee, and Carsen Bohlke, and Titan and Callen Hansen. He is also survived by brother Jim (Pat) Hoblyn of Ansley, sisters, Dianne (Art) Anderson of Arcadia and Dee (Mike) Krantz of Ansley, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm, Monday, June 5, 2023, with the family greeting friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Metz Mortuary in York. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 pm, Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Ansley, NE, with visitation held at the church, 2 hours prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Ansley Cemetery.&nbsp;

Donna Longberry sadly passed away on May 30, 2023 at her home in McCook, Nebraska. She was a beautiful person who spread joy and happiness wherever she went.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Carey and husband, Elmer R. Longberry and many brothers and sisters.

She has survived by daughters Brenda (Jeff) Baumann, Christina (Joe) Maestas, sons Delbert (Mary) Longberry, Elmer Longberry and 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Vaughn W. King, age 76, of McCook passed away at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton on May 31, 2023. &nbsp;He was born in Hastings, Nebraska on November 8, 1946, to James M. and Evelyn (Cobb) King. &nbsp;Known to many by the nickname “Boots,” Vaughn attended and graduated from Hastings High School. &nbsp;He furthered his education at Hastings College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in science.

&nbsp;On July 10, 1971, Vaughn was united in marriage to Linda Zook. &nbsp;To this union 4 children were born: Mike, Libby, Chris, and Mandy. &nbsp; Linda preceded him in death on December 12, 1996. Following college, Vaughn pursued work in the field of waste water management in the state of Colorado where he grew to love the mountains. However, a job opportunity with the City of McCook’s Utilities Department led him back to Nebraska where he eventually served as the city's Utilities Director. He retired from the City after 20+ years. Vaughn then worked for Wal-Mart until his 70th birthday in November of 2016. Vaughn’s hobbies included painting and music. &nbsp;While he was in college he joined a band as a guitarist, playing popular music from the era for school dances and other functions. He continued to play throughout his life for the enjoyment of his family and friends, as well as leading the church's worship team for many years. &nbsp;Vaughn liked to listen to many of his favorite recording artists including John Denver, The Beatles, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Willie Nelson, and other old time country musicians. Vaughn W. King (1946-2023)

Jennetta Schwartzkopf, 74, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on June 2, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Born on July 14, 1948, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Jennetta was the daughter of Wilbert and Emma Aschenbrenner Schnieder. She proudly graduated from Scottsbluff High School with the class of 1966. In 1970, she married John Schwartzkopf, a union blessed with two children: Tania and Matt.

During her time in Scottsbluff, Jennetta wore many hats: she served as a candy striper, worked for the phone company, and contributed her skills at Lockwood Corporation prior to working at the Scottsbluff Inn. She also spent time with KNEB radio in sales. After her marriage ended, she moved to Ogallala with her children in 1987. There, she held positions at the Stage Coach Inn as Assistant Manager and Catering Manager before finding her niche in sales at Nebraska Cellular. She truly enjoyed her work and was passionate about her career.

Jennetta will be fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Always ready with a joke, her sarcastic wit could spark laughter and lightness in any gathering. She enjoyed indulging her sweet tooth with desserts and held a special place in her heart for Bucerias, Mexico, a place she loved to visit whenever the opportunity arose.

A classy lady through and through, Jennetta took great pleasure in gardening and tending to her flowerbeds. Her talent extended into the kitchen, where she showcased her love for good food, especially German cuisine. Her signature dishes – Texas sheet cake, blackberry cobbler, dumplings, cabbage burgers, and more – were especially loved and savored by her family.

Jennetta was preceded in death by her parents, her life companion Bill Hines, and the father of her children, John Schwartzkopf.

Survivors include her children, Tania (Chad) Perlinger, Matt (Melissa) Schwartzkopf, all of Ogallala; her cherished grandchildren, Dakota (Reese) West, Austin Clough, Sadie (Wendell) Stephens, Samantha Schwartzkopf, John Schwartzkopf, and Ethan Skalsky; great-grandchildren, Stetson and Tilden Stephens, and Bailey West. She is also survived by her brothers, Stan Schnieder (Jo) of Buffalo, WY, and David Schneider of Phoenix, AZ, along with many other relatives and friends.

&nbsp;Susan was born on October 17, 1959 to William and Rosemary (Maifski) Sauer in Ogallala.&nbsp; Susan&nbsp; graduating from Ogallala High School&nbsp; in 1979, she went on to marry Lionel Brown and they welcomed three children: Nicholas, Erica and Amber Brown. On September 3, 1988 she remarried to Karl Lake in Ogallala, NE, where they welcomed a son: Taylor Lake.&nbsp;

Due to health issues, Susan retired and spent her time camping, gardening, spending time with friends and cherishing time with her beloved family, children and grandchildren. Her phone calls and presence will forever be missed.&nbsp;

Susan was preceded in death by her Parents, Daughter Amber Brown in 2022, brother Eric in 2023 and grandson Cooper Brown in 2014.

Nancy R. Aden (1944-2023)

John Marc Hurley, 72, of Broken Bow, Nebraska passed away on February 5, 2023. Marc, as he was known by all, passed away with his wife of 40 years, Beverly, by his side after a short battle with cancer.

Marc was born in San Antonio, TX to John Gerard and Janice Ruth Hurley, on August 16, 1950. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Sam Houston, a U.S. Navy Ballistic Missile Submarine.

After the U.S. Navy, Marc worked as a mason which propelled him to a long career in the construction field. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, and sports of all types, especially NASCAR and golf. After retirement, Marc worked part time at local golf courses leading to many hours of golf.

Marc is survived by his wife Beverly; sons, Edward Hurley of Aurora, CO and Ryan Hurley (Amanda) of Littleton, CO; grandkids, Jillian, Genevieve, and Mason of Littleton, CO; sister Karen (Philip) Millis of Monument, CO; mother-in-law, Wanda Johnson and sister-in-law Sharon Johnson both of Broken Bow; brother-in-law Dale Johnson of Brady, NE; sister-in-law Kathy Hurley of Commerce City, CO; and brother-in-law James Downey of Norton MA.

Marc is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Kevin and Gregg, sister Janice Downey, and father-in-law, Dallas Johnson. His brother David died shortly after Marc's passing.

A small family burial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, June 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to any VA hospital, Honorflight.org, or to any local animal shelter.

He enjoyed cooking, traveling, and sports of all types, especially NASCAR and golf. John Hurley (1950-2023)

Samuel K. Randall, 65, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney.

He was born on March 31, 1958, to Lee Randall and Margery Wamser. Samuel and his family moved quite a bit back and forth between Elm Creek, Nebraska and Colorado where he graduated from Evergreen High School with the class of 1976. After high school, Samuel joined the United States Marine Corps from February of 1976 until February of 1980. He then served with the United States Army as a captain from July of 1985 until July of 1988. He then served with the National Guard until he was honorably discharged. Once he left the military, Samuel worked several years at Wheelers Farm Store before moving on to Hobby Lobby where he worked for 27 years.

Samuel was a serious coffee drinker. His family always joked with him that he needed to have an IV of coffee ready for him. He loved woodworking, going out to the shooting range, and walking around with his metal detector looking for lost treasure. The thing he loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would drop whatever he was doing to be with them. One day when Sam was taking his grandchildren out to visit a loved one at the cemetery, one of his granddaughters asked him why some people in the cemetery didn’t have flowers; that day Samuel decided he needed to change that. He spent the next 12 years going to local cemeteries in his area and Fort McPherson National Cemetery to leave flowers for all the fallen veterans who might not have had any family left. At one point, he and his family delivered more than 5,000 flowers to every headstone. He will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor his memory is his mother, Margery Wamser of Wheatridge, Colorado; daughters, Charity Marquardt of Funk, Nebraska, Penny (Terry) Davis of Kearney, Nebraska Faye Schram of Elm Creek, Nebraska, and Samantha Jo Taylor of Kearney, Nebraska; sons, Ronald (Michelle) Martin of Harvard, Nebraska, Thomas (Melissa) Martin of Shelton, Nebraska, and Henry Schram of Loomis, Nebraska; brothers, Richard Randall of Arizona City, Arizona, Jim Randall of Mead, Colorado, Jeff (Pam) Wamser of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, and Wesley Shurtleff of Elm Creek, Nebraska, as well as many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Samuel’s wish for cremation.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Elm Creek, Nebraska with Pastor Venedith Vargas, officiating.

Inurnment with military honors will be in the Elm Creek Cemetery in Elm Creek, Nebraska.

Scott Joseph Malleck, age 64, of McCook, NE passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

Scott was born January 17, 1959 in McCook, NE to parents Kenneth Charles and Nita J (Greenlee) Malleck. He was one of four siblings who grew up in McCook where he attended school and graduated from McCook High School in 1977.&nbsp; Following high school he begin his career working in the family Oil and Gas business.&nbsp;

On March 8, 1980 Scott married Debbie K. (Brown) Malleck at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook.&nbsp;&nbsp; To this union four children were born.

Scott was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the McCook Eagles Club.

He enjoyed shooting, bowling, playing softball and pool and attending the horseraces with family and friends. &nbsp;Scott loved watching his grandchildren’s events and fishing with friends Larry and Dave.&nbsp; He was an avid Nebraska Huskers and Oregon Duck football fan. &nbsp;

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Malleck; and a brother in law, Allan Otter.

&nbsp; Thelma Elaine Liewer was born December 18, 1937, at Webster, Kansas, to Hector L. and Julia E. (Jones) Conyac. As a youngster, she moved with her family to southwest Iowa, to a farm near Tabor, where she grew up and attended school. Thelma graduated from Tabor High School in 1955, earning a scholarship in home economics to Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. While attending Peru State, Thelma met Kelly Liewer and the couple were married on May 27, 1957, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Hamburg, Iowa. They settled briefly in Peru while attending summer school and then embarked on careers in teaching and secondary education administration. Thelma and Kelly resided in several communities in Nebraska, including Pilger, Saint Edward, Palmyra and Lincoln. In 1968 the couple, along with growing family, made their home in Peru, Nebraska. After raising their family, Thelma and Kelly moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1988 and retired to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1998. Thelma was employed at several different locations while raising her family including AVCO Finance, Bank of Peru, and the business office of Peru State College. After retiring in Lincoln, Thelma landed her dream position in ladies’ apparel with the Von Maur Company. She received many “Pace Setters” sales awards over the years and thoroughly enjoyed serving her clientele. Thelma was a very classy and fashionable lady; her appearance was most always to the 9’s. Thelma was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and its Altar Society of Lincoln, and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, stopping by a casino, and shopping. She especially loved spending time entertaining and cooking for her family. Christmas was a favorite time. Thelma passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Lincoln, NE. She was 85 years of age. &nbsp; Royce Warren Graham was born April 4, 1954, in Benkelman, Nebraska to Ernest F. and Lavona F. (Cecil) Graham. Royce attended high school in Benkelman and furthered his education at Mid-Plains Community College where he received an Associate in Applied Science in welding and metals. He graduated from college on May 18, 1975. Royce worked as a farmer and rancher all of his life. Royce passed away on January 19, 2023, at Bryant LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln. He was 68 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cathy&nbsp;Heffner passed away at her home in Lemoyne, NE, on January 2, 2023, at the age of 87.

Cathy was born June 6, 1935, to Joseph and Catherine Spahn at Sterling, CO. She grew up and attended school in Sterling then got married. Cathy married Lenard Coakley in 1952. They settled in Sterling and started a family, then later divorced. While Cathy was raising the boys she worked various jobs.

On October 6, 1972, Cathy wed Ronald Heffner in Sidney, NE, and they made their home in North Platte. In 1994 the couple moved again, this time to their final home at the lake in Lemoyne.

Cathy enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and crafts. She was also a sports fan and loved fishing with Ron. Cathy especially loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her parents, Joseph and Catherine Spahn; three infant brothers; her siblings, John, Pete and Jim Spahn, Pauline Gaines and Betty Booth; and stepson, Bobby Joe Heffner.
