NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Nebraska’s official state celebration, NebraskaLAND Days, is just over a week away, and Executive Director Bob Lantis says the excitement is building fast.

“Once that calendar flips to June, it’s a different level,” Lantis said in an interview with the North Platte Post. “You have to be ready—and we are.”

NebraskaLAND Days officially begins June 18 at North Platte’s Wild West Arena, with a packed schedule of events including the Buffalo Bill Rodeo, concerts, parades, and family-friendly attractions. The Buffalo Bill Rodeo, a cornerstone of the celebration, gets underway Wednesday, June 18, with a newly adjusted start time. For the first time in 60 years, the rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m.

“We just felt like it made sense,” said Lantis. “It gives people more time to enjoy the food, the music under the pavilion, and everything else happening out here.”

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. on rodeo nights, with food trucks, concessions, and family entertainment available ahead of each performance. While rodeo events dominate the second half of the month, early festivities include the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant beginning Sunday, June 15, followed by the NebraskaLAND Days Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 17.

Lantis said that while a few concert tickets remain, most events are still open to the public, and the website is the best resource for up-to-date information.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — David P. Huebner, a North Platte native, former Border Patrol agent, and agricultural producer, has officially announced his candidacy for Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District. He will run as a conservative Republican, challenging longtime incumbent Rep. Adrian Smith of Gering, who has held the seat since 2007.

In an interview on Sandhills Spotlight On Eagle Media's <a href="http://www.z935country.com">Z 93.5 Country</a> with Derek Beck this week, Huebner emphasized his deep local roots and hands-on experience in farming, law enforcement, and small business ownership as key qualifications for the role.

“I want someone in Congress who has skin in the game,” Huebner said. “Someone who knows what it’s like to get up in a snowstorm to check on calves or to put on a badge and a gun and serve on the southern border.”

Huebner, 38, returned to western Nebraska five years ago to raise his family and operate a small ag business. He believes his background gives him a direct connection to issues central to the district, including agriculture and border security.

“Border security is national security,” he said, recounting his years of service under Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. “We need to codify policies that protect our borders and our citizens. That’s not partisan—it’s common sense.”

The 3rd Congressional District covers most of western and central Nebraska and is among the largest districts geographically in the country, with 80 counties. Huebner said he’s already begun a grassroots campaign, attending events in York and Buffalo counties in the days following his May 30 announcement.

“I’ve got 46 weeks to cover 80 counties before the primary. We’re hitting the road hard. Voters deserve to meet the person asking for their support,” he said.

In addition to agricultural and security issues, Huebner voiced concern about how undocumented immigration may impact future U.S. Census counts and congressional representation for Nebraska.

“If we don’t fix how illegal aliens are counted, we risk losing a House seat. That could mean losing the 3rd District entirely. We have to get ahead of that now,” he said.

Huebner said his campaign will be grounded in bold conservative values, including support for law enforcement, border security, Christian principles, and rural America.

OGALLALA, Neb. — The Wild West Soap Box Derby is back in high gear this Saturday, June 7, as racers from across the region compete in the prestigious FirstEnergy All-American Championship Race and the Super Kids Classic at the derby track in Ogallala.

Local Director Dave Barrett joined Sandhills Post this week to preview the big event, which will determine which young drivers advance to the world championships in Akron, Ohio, July 13–19. Ogallala’s race is one of about 100 nationwide where champions automatically qualify for the global showdown.

“This is the one race each year that earns automatic bids to Akron,” said Barrett. “It’s really special — it’s free to attend, family-friendly, and the racing is incredibly competitive.”

The Super Kids Classic kicks off at 1 p.m., followed by stock, super stock, and masters division races starting around 1:45 p.m. Spectators can expect three to four hours of action, including the drivers’ parade and opening ceremonies. The race follows a double-elimination format.

Unique to soap box derby racing, competitors draw from a “wheel bank” to ensure fairness, swapping wheels and lanes with each opponent. “It’s about as even as it gets,” Barrett said. “You can’t win with tricked-out wheels — the racing is decided by skill.”

Last year, Ogallala celebrated a world champion when local racer Ethan Auwerda won the Super Kids title in Akron. Another local, Diego Juarez, finished as runner-up in the Super Stock Rally division. Region 4, which includes Nebraska and surrounding states, remains one of the most competitive in the nation.

Barrett credited the Ogallala Optimist Club and Pinnacle Bank — sponsors since the track opened 19 years ago — as key partners in making the event possible. Eichner’s Sales and Service also donated a $2,000 grill to support the derby’s fundraising efforts.

“Without sponsors and volunteers, we couldn’t put on an event like this,” said Barrett, noting the loss of fireworks sales this year left a funding gap.

Spectators are encouraged to bring the whole family to enjoy racing, food from the Derby Diner, and community fun. The event is free to attend, and raffle tickets are available to support the program.

Keith County Big Give's Caitlin Fuller talks about how local non-profits score with Big Give

The North Platte City Council reviewed a wide range of agenda items during its June 3 meeting, with Mayor Brandon Kelliher addressing property rehabilitation efforts, rezoning proposals and infrastructure agreements.

Among the first major topics discussed were the approvals of agreements to purchase deteriorated properties at 504 and 506 North Bryan Avenue. Using state grant funds, the city aims to acquire and potentially rehabilitate blighted properties through a program designed to address urban decay.

“These properties have sat empty for years, and in many cases are beyond private repair,” Kelliher said. “But we’ll inspect them after purchase. If structurally sound, we’ll fix and sell them for rehab. Otherwise, we tear them down.”

He added that these acquisitions bring the total to seven properties under the city’s blight remediation efforts, with plans to auction or solicit bids on cleared lots later this summer.

Council members also approved the third readings of Ordinances 4209 and 4210. The former rezones land at 3001 West 9th Street from highway commercial to R3 dwelling district to allow a homeowner to build an additional residence. The latter rezones land on East Philip Avenue for a new mobile home park development.

Another item on the agenda involved the beginning phase of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) process for a property just west of Adams and Rodeo Road. A new ownership group plans to redevelop a former motel into efficiency apartments. A blight and substandard declaration will first go before the city planning commission before returning to the council for approval.

The council then voted against a proposed zoning change for properties located at 801–807 South Elm Street. Jason and Kayla Jensen, owners of Enzo Athletic Performance, a local fitness business, had proposed expanding into the area.

“This is one of the toughest decisions a council makes,” said Kelliher. “There’s no right or wrong here—it’s about what’s the best use for the land.”

Kelliher noted that the lots have remained undeveloped for decades despite multiple home-building cycles, likely due to high costs. While the votes had more nays, he expressed hope the city could assist the Jensen's in finding a location to help with their expansion search.

“These are good problems to have,” Kelliher said. “We’d rather have successful businesses looking to expand than vacant buildings with no plans.”

As the meeting concluded, Kelliher encouraged residents to take part in upcoming community events, including the Miss Nebraska Pageant, Grape and Sizzle fundraiser, and Miss Rodeo Nebraska, all leading into Nebraskaland Days and the Buffalo Bill Rodeo.

“If you can’t find something to do in June in North Platte, you’re not looking hard enough,” Kelliher said with a laugh.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for June 18.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The crown may be changing heads this week, but Miss Nebraska 2024 Raechel Warren and Miss Nebraska’s Teen 2024 Janae Harris are savoring every final moment of their reign as the next generation of competitors arrive in North Platte.

<a href="https://www.missnebraska.org/miss-nebraska#titleholders">Twelve young women will vie for the title of Miss Nebraska 2025</a>, and another <a href="https://www.missnebraska.org/outstanding-teen#mnotlocals">twelve for Miss Nebraska’s Teen 2025</a>, during a weeklong celebration of talent, service, scholarship, and style. Events begin Wednesday, June 4, with a Red Carpet Welcome Ceremony at Venue 304 and culminate with the final night of competition Saturday, June 7, at North Platte High School.

Warren and Harris joined the North Platte Post to reflect on their journeys, share advice for this year’s candidates, and spotlight a packed week of pageant festivities.

“This time last year, I had no idea how much this role would change my life,” said Warren, who competed in her final year of eligibility in 2024. “My goal was to go in, be 100% Raechel, and give it everything. Winning was just the cherry on top of the most fulfilling year.”

For Harris, her journey began with a bit of pre-pageant coaching at a family gathering. “Derek, you sat me down and gave me interview questions. I was so nervous, but it helped so much,” she laughed. “This has been the most incredible year, and I hope to compete at Miss Nebraska in the future.”

Miss Nebraska Week is more than just a competition. It’s a celebration of tradition and mentorship that sets the program apart. One such tradition: each contestant is hosted by a local family—something unique to Nebraska.

“Our host families make this week unforgettable,” Warren said. “It’s a hallmark of the program and part of what makes North Platte feel like home.”

The Sparkler program, previously known as “Little Sisters,” pairs young girls aged 6–12 with delegates. For Harris, the bond she formed with her sparkler last year—sealed with a friendship necklace—remains one of her favorite memories.

“This year I get to see her again,” Harris said. “Mentorship is what my platform is all about, and this week is a chance to pour into the next generation.”

Warren added, “These little girls come back year after year. Some even grow up to compete. It shows just how lasting the impact is.”

This week offers the public multiple chances to meet the delegates. In addition to Wednesday’s Red Carpet Welcome, preliminary competitions will be held Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. at North Platte High School. Saturday’s final begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by a post-pageant celebration at Venue 304.

Additional events include the Forever Red Celebration on Saturday afternoon, autograph signings, and visits to local businesses throughout the week.

“Our board and volunteers have done a phenomenal job,” Warren said. “The events are bigger, the marketing’s stronger, and the community support continues to grow. We’re grateful for all of it.”

Though neither will compete this week, both reigning titleholders plan to be a constant presence throughout the festivities—encouraging contestants and celebrating the sisterhood.

“This week is so different, not having the pressure of competition,” said Warren, who will perform with her mother Friday night. “My job now is to remind the girls to just enjoy it. They’ve done the work—now it’s time to shine.”

Warren plans to marry in September and continue her full-time career at Scoular, a commodities trading company. She and Harris also plan to expand their platforms into businesses, offering mentorship and outreach beyond the stage.

For Harris, who has aged out of the teen division, her sights are now set on Miss.

“This is a sisterhood that changes lives,” she said. “To everyone competing: soak it all in, make friends, and know that this is just the beginning.”

The public is encouraged to attend and support these ambitious young women. As Warren put it, “This is more than a competition—it’s a launchpad for what’s next.”

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — One of Lincoln County’s most anticipated annual fundraisers is back. The Grape &amp; Sizzle event, organized by the Lincoln County Cattle Women's Association, will take place Friday, June 6, at Venue 304 in downtown North Platte. The evening combines gourmet food, wine tasting, and lively auctions to raise funds for local nonprofits.

Tracy Olson, president of Grape &amp; Sizzle, and board secretary Amanda White joined the Sandhills Post this week to share details about the event, which has supported Lincoln County for over two decades.

“Our slogan is ‘Beef for a Cause,’ and our mission is to promote the beef industry while giving back to local nonprofits,” Olson said.

This year, three nonprofit recipients were selected through a competitive process:

Grape & Sizzle Fundraiser Returns June 6 in North Platte, Supporting Local Nonprofits

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Hall of Fame PRCA Buffalo Bill Rodeo is set to return to North Platte from June 18 through June 21, bringing four nights of high-level rodeo action — and a few key changes fans need to know.

This year, the rodeo will start at 7:30 p.m. each night, a shift from the long-standing 8:00 p.m. tradition. Buffalo Bill Rodeo Committee members Justin Thompson and Levi Fisher told Derek Beck of the North Platte Post that the earlier start is aimed at making the event more convenient and family-friendly.

“Pushing the start time up just a bit helps get folks home earlier and might help us avoid some of that late-night weather,” Thompson said. “We don’t like to talk about rain, but you know it can happen.”

The rodeo, a staple of Nebraskan tradition and part of Nebraskaland Days, is also upping the stakes in 2025. This year, the added purse money has increased from $6,000 to $10,000 per event, a significant jump aimed at attracting top-tier talent.

“That’s one of the biggest changes,” said Fisher. “It helps bring in some of the bigger names and just elevates the overall competition.”

Cowboys and cowgirls participating in the PRCA-sanctioned event are already taking note. While the exact performance schedules for top-ranked athletes aren’t set, fans can expect to see nationally known names like Stetson Wright, Coleman Proctor, and Rocker Steiner throughout the week.

“Every night is going to have someone in the top five or top 10,” Thompson said. “There’s no bad night at this rodeo.”

While Saturday night sold out last year, Fisher encouraged fans to take advantage of Wednesday and Thursday nights, which often feature high-caliber performances as athletes route through multiple national events.

“If you're looking for great competition without the weekend crowds, Wednesday and Thursday are hidden gems,” he said.

For early risers and die-hard rodeo fans, slack events begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, offering even more opportunities to see top-tier rodeo action.

Buffalo Bill Rodeo Returns June 18 with New Start Time and Bigger Purse

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Community members, business owners, and civic leaders are invited to a public town hall meeting on Thursday, May 29, to discuss the revitalization of North Platte’s Original Town neighborhood.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Mr. Appliance building, located at the corner of Highway 30 and Highway 83. Hosted by North Platte City Councilman Nick McNew and local businessman Chad Fosdick, the event aims to engage residents in developing a shared vision for improving the city’s north side.

McNew, who represents the area on the city council, said the north side holds personal significance for him.

“I was born and raised on that side of town, and I still live there,” McNew said. “It means a lot to me to try to get the revitalization going again and take pride in the area. We’ve seen some development—like new housing projects and a park across from Madison (School)—but we can and should do more.”

Fosdick, who has operated businesses in the area since 2020, echoed McNew’s sentiment, emphasizing the need for grassroots involvement.

“We want our location to reflect the pride of Original Town,” Fosdick said. “We’re hoping this meeting can be a launching point. We want to bring residents, community members, and business owners together to figure out a direction for any revitalization efforts.”

The idea for the forum stemmed from earlier conversations between Fosdick and Mona Anderson of Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful. Although initial meetings drew only a handful of participants, Fosdick said the goal is to expand the circle of engagement through Thursday’s event.

McNew noted that the area known as Original Town isn’t confined strictly to the north side of the railroad tracks. A map that will be shared during the meeting shows the neighborhood extends into parts of the south side, including the “tree streets” such as Oak and Maple, though the primary focus of the upcoming effort remains on the north.

Attendees are encouraged to bring not just ideas but potential solutions—particularly for dealing with vacant properties and underutilized spaces.

“It’s about rolling up our sleeves and getting involved,” Fosdick said. “This is about community pride. If we want to see change, it has to start with us.”

In the Talent competition, the Teen title went to Cora Frans, who impressed the judges with her standout performance. In the Miss division, a tie brought double the excitement as Alayna Wilson and Jacee Pfiefer both took home top honors for their talents.

WEST POINT, Neb. (June 5, 2025) – A new alliance of 19 critical-access hospitals across Nebraska has officially launched the Nebraska High Value Network (NHVN), aiming to improve rural healthcare through shared resources, collaboration, and value-based care.

The network is designed to give small, independent hospitals the power of scale—sharing costs, data, and best practices—while allowing them to remain autonomous and responsive to local needs. Through a coordinated effort, NHVN hospitals will work together on clinical and business strategies to enhance patient care, control costs, and partner more effectively with insurers.

“Working together enables our member hospitals to make impactful investments—like in population health management—that wouldn't be possible alone,” said Tyler Toline, NHVN Board Chair and CEO of Franciscan Healthcare in West Point. “We can stay independent and still reap the benefits of a larger system.”

The network’s foundation is a clinically integrated network (CIN) that currently serves nearly 300,000 patients. A physician-led Clinical Integration Committee will oversee quality standards, data-sharing, and care coordination across member hospitals. The goal: reduce administrative burden while improving patient outcomes.

“Through the CIN, we’re showing insurers the high-quality care we already deliver—and building stronger, value-based partnerships as a result,” said Dr. Jared Kramer of Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

In addition to clinical collaboration, NHVN will help members cut costs by coordinating purchases and sharing operational expertise. An operations committee made up of hospital leaders will facilitate this work.

NHVN becomes the fifth rural hospital network launched by Cibolo Health, a company that supports independent hospitals through clinically integrated networks. Cibolo Health will provide active daily management of NHVN through its leadership team, including Nathan H. White, President, and Dr. A. Clinton MacKinney, Chief Medical Officer.

The NHVN is already in talks with other rural Nebraska hospitals about joining and anticipates continued growth.

OGALLALA, Neb. — The Keith County Big Give is off to a fast start, raising more than $160,000 in its first week as it aims for a $325,000 goal by June 15.

Presented by the Keith County Foundation Fund (KCFF), the Big Give is a countywide fundraising campaign supporting 50 local nonprofit organizations—up from 37 last year. Caitlin Fuller, event organizer, said the campaign not only highlights groups doing vital behind-the-scenes work but also encourages donors to discover and support new causes.

“When I first moved here, I didn’t know many of these organizations existed,” Fuller said in an interview with Sandhills Post. “Now, more people are learning about their impact and donating to causes they hadn’t considered before.”

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A North Platte man has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail following a weapons-related conviction.&nbsp;

Kage Anthony received a 364-day sentence in the Lincoln County Detention Center for attempted possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 3A felony. The charge was reduced from a Class 2A felony after Anthony entered a no contest plea. He was credited with 58 days for time already served and will also undergo nine months of post-release supervision.&nbsp;

According to court documents, the case stems from a December 2023 incident in which police allege Anthony fired a shot at a parked van in the 700 block of West 8th Street. Officers later located Anthony at a nearby residence, where they recovered a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Investigators determined the firearm had been reported stolen during a 2021 burglary.&nbsp;

Anthony was sentenced earlier this week in Lincoln County District Court.&nbsp;

North Platte Man Sentenced for Weapons Charge

June 3, 2025 (McCook, Neb.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— The Nebraska State Patrol is raising awareness about multiple overdose cases in southwest Nebraska.

In the last three days, there have been two overdose cases in the area. NSP has been in contact with several local agencies regarding the potential of a connection between these cases. Both cases are believed to involve similar counterfeit pills, made to look like legitimate prescription pills. Investigators believe the pills contain synthetic opioids which can be lethal with a very small dose.

The overdose cases have occurred in McCook and Culbertson. The case in McCook resulted in the death of a 22-year-old female. The McCook Police Department is the investigating agency in that case. The overdose case in Culbertson did not result in a death and is being investigating by the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Office.

“These cases are tragic and it’s imperative that people understand the dangers associated with counterfeit pills,” said Captain Jason Scott, Commander of NSP Investigative Services. “Never take prescription pills unless they are prescribed by a physician and come directly from a pharmacy.”&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College releases the rosters for its inaugural Black &amp; Gold High School Basketball All-Star game June 7. The student-athletes, representing talent from throughout western Nebraska, were nominated by their high school coaches.

Current NPCC women’s basketball players Madi Cheleen and Joie Rodriguez have been chosen to serve as the head coaches for the girl's teams, while Jimmie Pack (North Platte) and Justin Hardin (Paxton) will lead the way on the boy's side.

The girl's game will begin at 3 p.m., with the boy's game to follow at 5 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on the NPCC South Campus, 601 W State Farm Rd.

NPCC releases rosters for inaugural Black and Gold High School All-Star Game

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney sophomore Fabiana Gamboa has been named an All-American in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

To <a href="https://wearecollegetennis.com/2025/06/03/2025-ita-division-ii-womens-tennis-all-americans/">earn AA status</a> in either singles or doubles, a player must rank in the Top 20 (singles) or Top 10 (doubles) in the final ITA rankings of the season. This year those were announced on May 30.

Gamboa (Maracaibo, Venezuela) is UNK's first-ever Division II All-American (men's or women's) and joins Ron Goodman and Steve Rademacher as the only Loper tennis players to earn AA status. Both Goodman and Rademacher were tabbed by the NAIA in 1985. ​

In the <a href="https://colleges.wearecollegetennis.com/rankings?type=national&amp;gender=F&amp;divisionType=DIV2&amp;matchFormat=SINGLES&amp;date=2025-05-29">ITA rankings</a>, Gamboa was ranked as high as ninth in singles and finished 16th in Division II. She had six singles victories over nationally-ranked competition and typically won her matches in straight sets.

This past season Gamboa went 41-21 overall which included a 22-10 mark in singles and a 19-11 mark in doubles. During the dual season, she went 16-8 in singles and 17-7 in doubles. Playing at one singles and three doubles with junior Clare Plachy, she was tabbed first-team All-MIAA in singles.

Pete Komada of Central Oklahoma was the only other MIAA singles player to join Gamboa with the Washburn pair of Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs making the AA doubles list.&nbsp;

UNK went 20-6 during the recently completed season, tying for the MIAA regular season title, winning Central Region #1 and reaching the NCAA "Sweet 16" for a second consecutive spring.

Gena Jorgenson smashed her own Nebraska school record with a time of 8:33.79 on her way to a sixth-place finish at the 2025 Toyota USA National Championships in Indianapolis on Tuesday night.

Jorgenson, a two-time All-American for the Huskers in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the past two NCAA Championships, continued to slash time in her distance freestyle events. The senior-to-be from Aberdeen, S.D., swam head-to-head with world record-holder Katie Ledecky in the fastest heat of the 800 free at the U.S. Championships. Ledecky cruised to a victory in the event with a time of 8:05.76, which was more than a second off her world record time (8:04.12) set a month ago.

Claire Weinstein (8:19.67) and Jillian Cox (8:19.88) rounded out the top three finishers in the World Championship-qualifying event, while Kate Hurst (8:30.87) and Mila Nikanorov (8:32.64) rounded out the top five swimmers ahead of Jorgenson.

Jorgenson will compete in the 200 backstroke (June 4), 400 freestyle (June 6) and the 1,500 freestyle (June 7) as the Toyota USA National Championships continue this week.

Jorgenson sets School record at USA Championships

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — North Platte Community College added its third commit of the offseason over the weekend with the signing of Freshman Guard/Forward Winston Allen.

Allen joins the Knights from Cowley College, which finished last season ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA Division I poll. In 25 games, Allen averaged 5.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

A versatile player, Allen is expected to bolster a frontcourt led by returning big men Daniel Nwauzu and Joseph Badejo.

Last month, North Platte also secured a commitment from Deandre Nichols, a guard from Grandview High School (Mo.). Nichols averaged 10.2 points per game in 21 appearances for the Bulldogs last season.

Nichols joins a deep backcourt that includes returning players Sedrick Nari, Justus Michael and Dennis Rocha — who is expected back from injury — as well as incoming freshman John Sims IV from Omaha Westview.

NPCC Men's Basketball land 2 new recruits for 25-26 season

Lincoln, Neb.-&nbsp;&nbsp;Former Husker gymnast Yanni Chronopoulos and newcomer Sam Rakita competed at the Canadian National Championships in Alberta, Canada. At the Senior level, Chronopoulos claimed the bronze medal and Rakita earned second place in the Senior Next Gen level. The Ontario natives both placed in the top 20 in every event. Scores for each event are calculated by combining performances from both days.

Current Husker Nik Tarca competed for the Romanian National Team at the European Championships where he earned 37th place in the all-around.

Canadian National Championships - Senior Next Gen (19-20)

Rakita had a stellar weekend at the National Championships, grabbing gold on high bar with a 26.232 and posting a 26.432 on still rings. The incoming freshman earned silver on parallel bars, posting a 24.499. He also earned fourth place on floor with a 25.566 and on vault with a&nbsp; 26.266. The 19-year-old capped off his competition with a 21.899 on pommel horse for 13th place. His weekend performance totaled 150.894 to give Rakita the silver medal.&nbsp;

Canadian National Championships - Senior Competition (21+)

Chronopoulos performed best on pommel horse at the competition with a 26.80 for a bronze medal on the apparatus. The Big Ten Rings Champion took home fourth on rings with a 26.366. He scored fifth on parallel bars (27.033), sixth on vault (26.533), seventh on floor (26.266) and on 12th high bar (25.533). This was Chronopoulos’ first time competing in the all-around this season, where he excelled with a combined score of 157.798 for third place.&nbsp;

Tarca had his best finish on pommel horse, nabbing a 13.50 for 25th place. The sophomore took 45th on vault (13.566), 64th on high bar (11.933), 66th on still rings (12.20) and parallel bars (12.166) and 89th on floor (11.966). His performance totaled a 75.364 for 37th place.&nbsp;

Taylor Christopulos will continue international competition for Husker gymnasts, as he will travel to Panama to represent the U.S. Men’s National Team in the Pan-American Games from June 12 to June 15.&nbsp;

Two-time All-American&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://huskers.com/sports/swimming-and-diving/roster/player/gena-jorgenson">Gena Jorgenson</a>&nbsp;and Canadian&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://huskers.com/sports/swimming-and-diving/roster/player/marissa-laurin">Marissa Laurin</a>&nbsp;will represent the Nebraska swimming and diving team at national events this week in hopes of qualifying for the World Aquatics Championships later this summer.

In addition to Jorgenson's competitive schedule this week, Husker teammate&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://huskers.com/sports/swimming-and-diving/roster/player/marissa-laurin">Marissa Laurin</a>&nbsp;will participate in the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia, June 7-12. The trials serve as Canada's qualifier for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships.

Laurin, a sophomore-to-be from Grand Prairie, Alberta, will compete in the 200 backstroke on Wednesday, June 11.

Nebraska great Ndamukong Suh is one of 79 players on the 2026 ballot for the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame.&nbsp; Suh is included on the ballot in his first year of eligibility.

Suh had a dominant career at Nebraska from 2005 to 2009, capped by a 2009 season that is widely regarded as one of the best individual seasons in college football history. During his senior season Suh’s accomplishments included the following…

As a senior, Suh led Nebraska in tackles for the second straight season with 85 tackles. He also became the first defensive lineman to lead Nebraska in tackles in consecutive seasons. He also led the team in tackles for loss (24), sacks (12), quarterback hurries (26) and blocked kicks (3). His 24 tackles for loss were second on the Nebraska season list, while his 12 sacks ranked third in school history. Suh's 10 pass breakups were second on the team and led the nation's defensive linemen. He also added his fourth career interception, an NU record for defensive linemen.
