Douglas William Moog, 65, of North Platte lost his battle with cancer on April 2, 2024. &nbsp;He forged his fight with grace and courage.

Doug was born January 22, 1959, in Madison, South Dakota to Delbert &amp; Nola (Bachkora) Moog. &nbsp;The family moved to Clark, South Dakota where Doug attended public school. &nbsp;Ther family moved again when Doug was 11 years old to North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;While in high school, Doug enlisted in the Army delayed entry program. &nbsp;He graduated from North Platte High School and within an hour of receiving his diploma, he was on an airplane and heading to Fort Dix, New Jersey. &nbsp;After his basic training he was stationed in Fort Ord, California. &nbsp;It was there that he met Danette, the love of his life. &nbsp;Doug &amp; Danette were married on May 8th, 1982, and have been married for 41 years. &nbsp;To this union two sons were born: Robert William 1983 &amp; Nathan Douglas 1986. &nbsp;Doug left the military after 14 years, completing tours of duty in Korea &amp; Germany. &nbsp;

When returning to North Platte, he was employed at Sixth Street Foods &amp; shortly thereafter began his career at the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad on August 1, 2023, after completing 30 years of service as a machinist. &nbsp;Doug was considered as “one in a million” because of his sense of humor and dedication to helping family, friends and anyone he met. &nbsp;Doug believed that everyone should have the enjoyment of riding a motorcycle to experience what he called “wind therapy.” &nbsp;He found contentment in traveling on his motorcycle with his wife and friends Mike &amp; Sheila Sneed through various trips they went on. &nbsp;Doug was a mechanic at heart &amp; was desirous to investigate &amp; fix vehicle repairs whenever the opportunity arose.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 8, 2024 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska with full military honors. &nbsp;Rev. Mike Wing will be officiating. &nbsp; Book signing will be Friday, April 5, 9-5, with family present to receive friends. &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. &nbsp;

Douglas William Moog (1959-2024)

Elsie Linnea Carlson Barrett died on March 28, 2024, at her home in Lexington, Nebraska, of complications from cancer at the age of 94.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Born and raised in New London, Connecticut, Elsie graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in 1947 and worked for a year to earn enough money to visit relatives in Sweden. On a frigid January day in 1950, she boarded the USS Gripsholm to sail to Sweden, the homeland of her parents. On the first day of the voyage, she wrote in her journal about watching the sun rise, “bright and glorious, marking the changing day of my life.” While abroad, she also traveled to Norway where she saw Eleanor Roosevelt give a speech in Oslo and visited Belgium, France and Germany.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;A year later, Elsie returned to New London and began another life chapter when she met Bill Barrett in a coffee shop. Bill was in the Navy and serving on a sub tender. He claimed he was smitten and followed her outside as she boarded a bus, convincing Elsie to shout her phone number through the window. They married in the Swedish Covenant Church in 1952, and Elsie left her beloved family, ocean, woods and friends to travel to the plains of Nebraska. She and Bill settled in Hastings where she became a licensed practical nurse and worked in a hospital before the couple and their first two children moved to Lexington. There, Elsie was a homemaker and raised four children and cared for numerous cats and dogs.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Elsie loved the outdoors and often took her family camping, hiking and swimming in lakes including Jeffrey Lake south of Brady, where the Barretts had a cabin. The family also co-owned a cabin near Glen Haven, CO, where she spent many happy years. The mountains were also where she introduced her family to skiing. She was a fixer of many things like leaky toilets and cantankerous lawn mowers. Elsie was unafraid of almost anything except live mice. Rarely did she back down from a challenge. Elsie was also a voracious reader, and a talented seamstress and knitter.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;After her children were grown, Elsie became a licensed real estate agent. She attended classes at Kearney State College and supported Bill during his time in the Nebraska Legislature and also when he served in Congress. She delighted in transforming their temporary living quarters into homes in both cities and showing family, friends, and constituents the many of wonders of Washington D.C. and surrounding areas. Throughout Bill’s political career, Elsie enjoyed traveling to many different countries and meeting world leaders as well as several presidents.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Closer to home, Elsie loved caring for her three grandchildren, teaching Betsy how to peer under rocks for interesting creatures and swooshing down waterslides with Darby and Noah. Almost everyone who knew Elsie, including her hospice care workers and reading and knitting groups, grew to appreciate her independent spirit which entertained, sometimes challenged, and ultimately endeared Elsie to those around her throughout her life, especially during the last chapter. She loved the ocean, immersing her 92-year-old self into the Atlantic’s healing waters to fulfill her wish of being embraced by the sea “one last time.”

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Elsie served on the Nebraska Foster Care Review board, was a 60-year member and president of her P.E.O. chapter, was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, was a boy scout den mother and girl scout leader, and a member of knitting and book clubs. She was also a member of the Congressional Club for spouses of representatives, and she and Bill helped host the National Prayer Breakfast in 1997.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Survivors include sons William (Karen) Barrett of Cupertino, CA; David Barrett of Omaha; daughters Elizabeth Barrett and Jane Messerschmidt, both of Lincoln; granddaughter Betsy Potter of Fraser, CO; grandsons Darby (fiancee Kierstene) Sarnes of Lincoln; and Noah Sarnes (Saylor) of Laurel; brother David (Marie) Carlson of Middletown, CT; sister-in-law Marjorie (James) Hewitt of Lincoln, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved orange cat Yogi.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and brother.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel and Reverend Charles Olsen, officiating with a luncheon to follow. A private graveside service will precede the Celebration of Life.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Hastings College Foundation, Central Plains Home Health &amp; Hospice, Lexington Public Library, Dawson County Historical Museum, and Nebraska Children's Home.

Elsie Linnea Barrett (1930-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp; Delbert Henry Maris was born on a farm north of Stratton, NE on August 23rd, 1931. His parents were Floyd &amp; Mildred Bahlke Maris. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1949/1950. He played all sports in high school. After he graduated, he worked in construction and helped build the Trenton Dam.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; He had one brother, Ervin, and two sisters, Elaine &amp; Jean.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He entered the Army in August 1952 and received his training at Fort Ord, California in the infantry division and served overseas in Korea. &nbsp;He received his honorable discharge in June 1954.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; He met Roberta the day after he got home from being discharged from the Army. They were married a year later in Maywood, Nebraska at the Methodist Church. They had four children: Darlene, Gary, Gerald and Ron.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Delbert is preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Geihsler in 2004; grandson, Craig Geihsler in 2015; brother, Ervin Maris; sisters; Elaine Bley and Jean Wach; brothers-in-law, Ron Wach and Ervin Bley; sister-in-law, Sandra Maris.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Delbert is survived by his wife, Roberta; sons, Gary Maris of McCook, Gerald (Debra) Maris of Culbertson and Ron Maris of McCook; grandchildren, Rod Geihsler, Lisa Johnson, Chris (Melissa) Maris and Richard Maris; great-grandchildren, Emily and Alexa Johnson, Avory and Halee Maris, Gage Geihsler and Jaidon Kimball; son-in-law, Gene Geihsler.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation for Delbert will be Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM-5:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Delbert Henry Maris (1931-2024)

&nbsp; Patricia Johnson passed away in her sleep on 3/13/24 in Oakdale, CA at the age of 93. &nbsp;Pat was born 5/12/30 in North Platte, NE to Brian and Pat Dillon. She was the 2nd child, along with sisters Tootie and Peg, and brother Tom.&nbsp; Pat attended St.Pat’s High School and graduated in 1948, proud to be a good student and cheerleader. Next step was St. Mary’s College in Omaha, where she studied accounting. She worked in a bank following junior college. In 1953, Pat married Dick Johnson, another St. Pat’s alumni, in North Platte. Pat and Dick lived in Rapid City SD for an Air Force assignment, and Pat went back to North Platte when Dick was sent overseas. Following the service, Pat and Dick moved to Sunnyvale CA in 1955 into a new suburb and new job for Dick. Children followed quickly. Mark was born in 1956, Patrice in 1959, Matt in 1960, Richard in 1962, and Doug in 1963. This triggered a DIY expansion of the Sunnyvale home and many busy years of kids, school, work, and fun along with all the challenges. Pat began working in the medical industry in 1965 at Stanford Hospital emergency room, and then worked for many years as office manager for orthopedic surgeon Dr. Bruce Robison. She was a very loyal Stanford fan, and enthusiastic partner in annual family camping trips to the Sierras and Pacific Coast. At age 50, she even ran the 12k Bay to Breakers race in SF with the kids. &nbsp;Pat and the family transitioned from camping to building a cabin in Twain Harte, CA in the mid-1970s. As the kids grew older, the family made almost weekly trips to the cabin for numerous projects and adventures. Pat and Dick retired in 1988, and moved to Twain Harte permanently. The cabin became the hub for most family events and calamities. Grandkids were a huge blessing when daughter Patty and husband Greg Orrock moved to the Sierra foothills and had sons Jason and Jared. Very shortly, the grandkid list expanded when Doug and Kris added Bryan, and Rich and Jenn added Jake and Mack. &nbsp;In 2004, Dick died of diabetes complications, and Pat continued as a hardy solo mountain woman… shoveling snow and maintaining the property. Finally the mountains became too tough and Pat moved to assisted living facilities in 2017. &nbsp;She was especially proud to be great grandmother to Jason and wife Marcela’s daughter Marissa, and then Jared and wife Heidi’s kids Aurelia, Georgia, and Cal. As “Aunt Patty”, she had favorite status with Peg and Wally Coker’s children Jim, Tom, and Kevin, plus Tootie and Ed Lupomech’s crew of John, Mike, Cathy, Ed, Joe, Lynn, Dave, Jim, Ann, and Cindy. Pat will be remembered very fondly by Mark’s wife Cindy, Patty’s husband Greg, Matt’s wife Claudia, Richard’s wife Jenn, and Doug's wife Kris. As for siblings, Father Thomas Dillon and Mary (Tootie) Lupomech have also passed away, and Margaret (Peg) Coker lives happily in Cheyenne, WY.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a very loyal Stanford fan, and enthusiastic partner in annual family camping trips to the Sierras and Pacific Coast. At age 50, she even ran the 12k Bay to Breakers race in SF with the kids. &nbsp;Pat and the family transitioned from camping to building a cabin in Twain Harte, CA in the mid-1970s. As the kids grew older, the family made almost weekly trips to the cabin for numerous projects and adventures. Pat and Dick retired in 1988, and moved to Twain Harte permanently. The cabin became the hub for most family events and calamities. Grandkids were a huge blessing when daughter Patty and husband Greg Orrock moved to the Sierra foothills and had sons Jason and Jared. Very shortly, the grandkid list expanded when Doug and Kris added Bryan, and Rich and Jenn added Jake and Mack. &nbsp;In 2004, Dick died of diabetes complications, and Pat continued as a hardy solo mountain woman… shoveling snow and maintaining the property. Finally the mountains became too tough and Pat moved to assisted living facilities in 2017. &nbsp;She was especially proud to be great grandmother to Jason and wife Marcela’s daughter Marissa, and then Jared and wife Heidi’s kids Aurelia, Georgia, and Cal. As “Aunt Patty”, she had favorite status with Peg and Wally Coker’s children Jim, Tom, and Kevin, plus Tootie and Ed Lupomech’s crew of John, Mike, Cathy, Ed, Joe, Lynn, Dave, Jim, Ann, and Cindy. Pat will be remembered very fondly by Mark’s wife Cindy, Patty’s husband Greg, Matt’s wife Claudia, Richard’s wife Jenn, and Doug's wife Kris. As for siblings, Father Thomas Dillon and Mary (Tootie) Lupomech have also passed away, and Margaret (Peg) Coker lives happily in Cheyenne, WY.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Patricia Ann Johnson (Dillon) (1930-2024)

Ruth (Dancer) Stephenson peacefully passed away on April 2, 2024, at Linden Estates in North Platte, NE, at the age of 98.

Ruth was the second of six children born to Roy and Katherine (Griffin) Dancer. &nbsp;She was born November 2, 1925, in the home of Pete and Ruby McKinley in Sutherland, NE. &nbsp;She and her siblings grew up on the Dancer family ranch, north of Sutherland, in McPherson County. &nbsp;Ruth attended District #60 country school from grades 1 to 8 then graduated from McPherson County High School in 1943 in a class of eight students. &nbsp;While in high school she had the opportunity to serve in the North Platte Canteen.

After high school, she taught school for a year then worked as a nurse's aide at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver and at the hospital at Los Alamos, NM. &nbsp;

While in New Mexico, Ruth met Vernon "Steve" Stephenson, her husband of 64 years. &nbsp;They were married on March 6, 1948, in Colorado Springs, CO, and had three daughters. &nbsp;

Ruth did the bookkeeping for her husband's construction business and was happy being a stay at home mom. &nbsp;She enjoyed having time to garden, sew, and after the children grew up, oil painting. &nbsp;

Ruth and Steve lived in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas and enjoyed traveling in their motor home. &nbsp;Following retirement, they moved to Sutherland for 18 years and were members of the Sutherland Methodist Church, then they moved to North Platte. &nbsp;Ruth and Steve enjoyed spending winters in the Happy Trails R.V. Park in Surprise, AZ.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Katherine Dancer; her husband, Steve; daughter, Glenna Meyer; infant sister, Mary Ellen; brothers, Robert and Harlan Dancer; and granddaughter-in-law, Julie Zittergruen.

Survivors include her daughters Beverly Mason (Jim) of Salida, CO, and Donna Zittergruen (Van) of Farmersburg, IA; grandchildren, Sara Zittergruen, Amy Lundy (Kevin), Evan Zittergruen, Brooke Halladay (Ashley), and Ryan Meyer (Danette); great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Rowan Lundy, Ezra Halladay, Avery and Blake Zittergruen, Bentley Miller, and Marley Meyer; sisters, Beth Newberry and Myrna Hallsted; sister-in-law, Elaine Dancer; and many other family.

Kathy Lynch, age 77 of Broken Bow, NE passed away on April 1, 2024, at the Callaway District Hospital in Callaway, NE.

Katherine (Kathy) Ann Lynch, daughter of Lawerence Lynch and Doris (Shields) Lynch, was born on November 17, 1946, with her twin sister Kitty in Arnold, NE at the Arnold Hospital.

Because no one was aware that Doris was expecting twins, they had to call the Arnold High School shop class to have them hurry and make another incubator as the hospital only had one. Although she had a rough start, including blood transfusions from her father that built a special bond between them, Kathy took off and thrived. Including winning the 1951 Professional Photographers Association Most Beautiful Child contest.

During her childhood, she enjoyed living in Arnold and growing up with her sisters. Together they loved playing games with the neighborhood children, going for walks and their many trips to see family in Colorado.

Kathy attended Arnold Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1966. After graduation, she started working at Becton Dickenson in Broken Bow, NE where she continued to work for 46 plus years, retiring in 2012. After retiring she bought a house and moved to North Platte where she resided until 2022, when she moved back to Broken Bow.&nbsp;

After the death of her father in 1969, Kathy spent almost every weekend back in Arnold with her mother. They would play Boggle, Dominos, and Kings Corners, go for drives, go to garage sales, scratch lottery tickets, watch Husker sports, and spend time together with family. &nbsp;

Kathy loved most any animal. Even though dogs were close to her heart including her companion of many years, her rescue named Happy, she also had a special spot in her heart for rabbits, squirrels, and birds. Over the years she had many neighborhood squirrels named “Chipper”, and after moving back to Broken Bow she had a pet rabbit named Tango. One of her greatest loves for the past 25-plus years was her mother’s cockatiel, Angel.&nbsp;

Along with animals Kathy loved playing games, reading, watching movies, scratch tickets, puzzles, sweets, picnics, road trips, and jewelry.

She had a spunky attitude, was very generous, and always spoke her mind. She will be missed by many.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Lawerence and Doris, and an infant brother Ronnie.

Thomas McGuire Slaby, 76, of Lakeview, Arkansas, formerly of Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born on June 11, 1947, in Denver, Colorado to Thomas and Vera (McGuire) Slaby.

Tom graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School with the class of 1965. Following high school, Tom joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country from November 29, 1965 until he was honorably discharged on November 6, 1968.&nbsp;

He was united in marriage to Janice Poulas on June 11, 1969 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Tom worked for Boeing Aircraft as a Teamster/Truckdriver.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Lakeview, Arkansas.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.

Frank passed away on March 26, 2024, at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Frank was born February 15, 1922, in Mullen, Nebraska, to Lester L. and Pearl Crain Harding on their ranch southwest of Mullen. He attended District #4 Hooker County School southwest of Mullen for 8 years. He was active in one of the first 4H clubs in Hooker County. He attended Hooker County High School in Mullen and was chosen to attend the first Boys State Program in 1938. Frank graduated from Hooker County High School in 1939.

After high school, Frank worked on the Harding ranch until the beginning of WWII. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the Navy’s 7th Fleet in the South Pacific. He earned a bronze star in the Battles of the Bismarck Sea, a bronze battle star in the New Guinea Campaign, a bronze star during the initial invasion of the Philippines on Oct. 20, 1944, and a bronze battle star during the Naval battle near Leyte Harbor when the Japanese Fleet was finally defeated.

Frank was discharged from the U.S. Navy on Dec. 22, 1945, but remained in the Naval Reserve for 4 more years. After the war, Frank bought some land and formed a partnership, the Harding Cattle Company, with his brother Forrest and father Lester Harding.&nbsp;

On March 17, 1956, Frank married Iva Tucker Malony. They had two daughters, Patricia Ann and Karen Marie. In 1960, they purchased the Garrett place west of Mullen. Frank was a charter member of the Hooker County Agricultural Society and served on the Mullen Public School Board from 1962-1968 at the time the new high school was built. He helped organize the Mullen Fire District and served as its first treasurer. He served as Hooker County Commissioner for over 30 years. Frank assisted in nearly every County Government Day since 1955. He became a member of the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in 1962 and was very active in the church. He joined the American Legion Marcy Upton Post #109 in 1946 and served in most offices through the years. At the time of his death, he was the Post Chaplain. He was a member of the firing squad for military funerals and Memorial Day.

His wife Iva passed away on June 16, 1975. He married Beth Simonson Anders on Feb. 24, 1979. They lived on his ranch west of Mullen until they retired in 1984 and moved into Beth’s house in Mullen.

Frank and Beth were active in community affairs. They were on the Cedarview Cemetery board for several years and were the co-chairmen of the Hooker County Centennial Celebration in 1989. They helped restore the old Commercial Hotel and establish the Hooker County Historical Society’s Old Hotel Museum. He wrote several “History Moment” articles for the Hooker County Tribune.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Iva and Beth, stepdaughter Sandra Norton, brother Forrest and sister-in-law Jean Harding.

He is survived by daughters Patricia (Steve) Gannon and Karen (Harold) Juzenas, stepdaughter Cheryl (Jim) O/Brien, stepsons Richard (Nancy) Anders, Charles (Karen) Anders, and Gary (Becky) Anders, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He loved them all.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be given to either St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church or the Hooker County Historical Society.

Frank E. Harding (1922-2024) 

&nbsp; Patricia Arlene France, 89, formerly of Lexington, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center.

She was born on December 9, 1934, in North Platte, Nebraska to Darrel and Arlene (Drake) Fellows. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1952. She continued her education at Mid Plains Community College where she received her associate degree. On June 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" France. Three children were blessed to this union: Victoria, Danny, and Kristie. 

Patricia and Bill spent 66 wonderful years together.&nbsp;Patricia was a hard-working woman who had many different careers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She spent some time working for Cornland Dressed Beef and Westside Homes before transitioning into working with upholstery. She was able to create beautiful, upholstered furniture and she had quite a talent for it. After some time, she moved on to work for the USDA Farm Service Agency where she enjoyed working with her farmers before retiring.&nbsp;

Patricia loved working with her hands. Besides her meticulous craft of upholstery, she was a gifted seamstress, and had quite the green thumb. She was able to grow just about anything from flowers to various fruits and vegetables. She also loved to bake. Every Christmas, she would spend hours making her own Christmas candy for her children. She made some of the best chocolate covered cherries and candy cane cookies. Although she had a small kitchen, she would magically have a table full of food out for her family all at once, piping hot.

 </figure>&nbsp; Patricia Arlene France, 89, formerly of Lexington, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center.She was born on December 9, 1934, in North Platte, Nebraska to Darrel and Arlene (Drake) Fellows. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1952. She continued her education at Mid Plains Community College where she received her associate degree. On June 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" France. Three children were blessed to this union: Victoria, Danny, and Kristie. Patricia and Bill spent 66 wonderful years together.&nbsp;Patricia was a hard-working woman who had many different careers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She spent some time working for Cornland Dressed Beef and Westside Homes before transitioning into working with upholstery. She was able to create beautiful, upholstered furniture and she had quite a talent for it. After some time, she moved on to work for the USDA Farm Service Agency where she enjoyed working with her farmers before retiring.&nbsp;Patricia loved working with her hands. Besides her meticulous craft of upholstery, she was a gifted seamstress, and had quite the green thumb. She was able to grow just about anything from flowers to various fruits and vegetables. She also loved to bake. Every Christmas, she would spend hours making her own Christmas candy for her children. She made some of the best chocolate covered cherries and candy cane cookies. Patricia Arlene France (1934-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean Roberta Miller was born on December 22, 1947 at Hillside Hospital, San Diego, California; to parents, Robert and Lillian (Counce) Beezley. &nbsp;She grew up in La Mesa, California and graduated from Helix High School in 1966. &nbsp;In the fall of that same year, she attended James Hall College of Beauty, earning her Cosmetology degree in 1967. &nbsp;The exam for Cosmetology was held in the area of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles, California.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In 1968, Jean married Michael Jennings, to this union Beth Alice was born. &nbsp;They were divorced in 1975, Jean and Beth moved to Hayes Center, Nebraska. &nbsp;Jean owned and operated a beauty salon in Hayes Center for thirteen years. &nbsp;She also worked as a cosmetologist while living in California, in total she worked in beauty salons for 21 years, making many lifelong friendships. &nbsp;Jean and Beth began dating George Miller while in Hayes Center, they were married in 1977. &nbsp;Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and making jewelry.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; In 1999, Jean attended the ELM (Education for Lay Ministry) classes of the United Church of Christ. &nbsp;After finishing her ELM classes and earning a license to the a minister, Jean served the Curtis UCC Church and the Stockville UCC Church for eight years. &nbsp;Jean was hired by the Union Congregational UCC Church in Hayes Center and the Congregational UCC Church in Trenton in 2010.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lillian Beezley; husband, George Miller; an infant son; sister, Joan Laurenroth; brother-in-law, John Miller; and sister-in-law, Teresa Miller.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; She is survived by her daughter, Beth Anderson and son-in-law, Chris Anderson of McCook; brother-in-law, Jerry Miller of Hayes Center; grandchildren: Shonda Jacob, Devin Jacob, and Izaiah Jacob all of McCook; great-grand-girls: Summer Knight, Stormi Knight, Lilli Knight, and Mckenzi Jacob; as well as several friends and extended family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Anthony Michael Pantenburg was born on June 13, 1965 in McCook, Nebraska to Robert and Barbara (Chapman) Pantenburg. &nbsp;He attended school in McCook. &nbsp;Tony was united in marriage to Tracy Belka on August 10, 1996 in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;Tony and Tracy were blessed with three children: Taylor, Tanner, and Tana.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Tony supported his family as a truck driver and most recently was employed by Gary’s Super Foods and Budweiser. &nbsp;He loved music and was a talented guitar player; Tony shared this gift with others by playing in many bands over the years. &nbsp;A passion for the outdoors led Tony and his family to other interests including fishing, camping, and countless hours spent taking in the open road on motorcycles.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Tony passed away at his home in McCook on Saturday, March 30, 2024. &nbsp;He was 58 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Pantenburg as well as his grandparents.

Anthony Michael Pantenburg (1965-2024)

In the early, quiet hours of March 28, 2024, Jimmie D. Baney of Benkelman, Nebraska, a man of faith, steadfast character and unwavering dedication passed away with his wife, Mary, of 68 years by his side. Jim, as he was affectionately known to many, a loving husband, Dad and Grandpa, was a pillar of his community, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born on the Baney homestead in rural Dundy County on May 28th, 1934, Jim's roots ran deep within the soil of his family farm. For over 50 years, he toiled on the land that shaped him, embodying the spirit of a true farmer and rancher. &nbsp;In 2018, Jimmie and Mary received the Aksarben Foundation Pioneer reward celebrating and honoring 100 continuous years of family-owned farm ground since 1918. His commitment and love for the land transcended time, as he continued to live his life on the family farm.

Jim's passion extended beyond the fields; he was a master craftsman with an unparalleled talent and keen eye for restoring antique cars, collectables and things of old. From his prized 1902 Holsman Horseless Carriage to his beloved 1929 Ford Model A with a rumble seat, Jim's expertise in reviving these treasures earned him numerous accolades at car shows and surrounding community fair parades. As the owner of the Wagon Wheel antique store in Benkelman, he curated a treasure trove of memories, history and stories waiting to be discovered. His hands were his tools, and his creations were testaments to his skill and dedication. Jim could fix anything and loved taking something from shambles and making it anew. He could make a doohickey for a thingamajig. He never could sit still and was always working on the next project. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim was blessed with the power of persuasion, loved to barter, attend auctions and "make a deal". &nbsp;He was well known to every auctioneer in the Tri State area and very seldom missed a farm sale.&nbsp;

A man of many talents, Jim found joy in various pursuits, an avid basketball and baseball player and a skilled bowler in his younger years. He loved sports and loved watching his children and grandchildren’s activities; he couldn’t help but be a bit of a bleacher coach. But, more important, he loved to spend time with an opportunity to teach, especially with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In matters of the heart, Jim found his lifelong companion in Mary Janicke. Their enduring love story began in Parks, Nebraska, where a chance encounter on the baseball field blossomed into a beautiful union on September 25th, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Bladen, NE. Together they raised a family enriched with love and laughter.&nbsp;

Jim’s personal relationship with the Lord was evident, especially with his family. His servant heart and devotion to helping others brought him joy and touched many lives. He served on the board committee of the Benkelman Friends Church where his family attended for years.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Baney, brothers and sisters-law Dale and Delores Baney, Evertt Baney and Billie Baney; sisters and brothers-in-law Velma and Max Cline, Elila and Jack Whiteside, Leta and Junior Andres and Bonnie and Delbert Nelsen. As well as, Milton and Fayetta Janicke (parents-in-law), Lyle Hansen, Wilfred Hansen, Ronald Janicke and Verlin Rose (brothers-in-law)&nbsp;

Jim is survived by the love of his life Mary; his children, James Douglas Baney (Lora), Mary Jane Shorman (Darcy), and Nancy Ruth Baney. His adoring grandchildren, Meghann Rachelle Pursley (Andrew), Aaron Douglas Baney (Kate), Joel William Shorman, Jessica Rosemary Shull, Nicholas Ivan Baney and Marina Grace Baney; two great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Faye and Isaiah Martin Pursley; his loving sisters, Ruby Stock, Helen Hansen, Barbara Lea Pursley (Neal) and sisters-in-law Donna Baney, Lois Janicke and Jane Barton (Evart); and numerous nieces, nephews and countless others who were touched by his kindness. &nbsp;

Randall Jay Mayer, 66, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away March 28, 2024 at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born February 2, 1958 to Clarence Dale and Beverly Ann (Sheets) Mayer in California. &nbsp;

He graduated from high school in El Camino, California in 1976. &nbsp;Randall worked for Hussman Electric in California, traveled across the country, eventually settling in Nebraska. &nbsp;He lived in Ogallala and moved to North Platte in 2015 where he worked as a handyman. &nbsp;Randall was a very talented woodworker and could build anything. &nbsp;He had a great love for fishing and was always accompanied by Cole.

Randall is survived by his sister, Pamela Ross-Hunziker, Sacramento, California; 2 nieces, Shantelle (Dan) Roth, Kristy (Hans) Roscher, Sacramento, California; 4 great nieces and nephews, Joseph Roth, Rhiannon Roth, Nathaniel Roscher, Mya Roscher, Sacramento, California; along with other family members and friends.

Ruth K. Foote, age 90, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services are 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Weispfennig officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. &nbsp; Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Thursday, April 4 at Wintz &amp; Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. &nbsp;Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Pallbearers are her grandsons: Kolby Foote, Donavan McConnell, Nathan Flanagan, Zachary Flanagan, Haiden Magnussen, and Charlie Foote. Honorary pallbearers are grandson, Dennis McConnell Jr. and her granddaughters: Kelsey Bryan, Brittan Flanagan, Katie Stacey, Hannah Magnussen, Chloe and Claire Foote.

Ruth was born April 21, 1933 in Okaton, South Dakota to Phillip and Alvena (Buxcel) Eckert. &nbsp;She was the 3rd of seven siblings born into this union. She grew up in Okaton where she attended country school. &nbsp;After school ended, Ruth stayed on the farm and babysat and kept house for other families in the area. &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth then moved to Pierre, SD where she worked at Ben Franklin’s. &nbsp;She met Harold Foote on a blind date and 10 months later, they were married on October 21, 1962 in Midland, SD. &nbsp;After their marriage, they moved to Huron, SD where Harold received his teaching degree and they began their family. &nbsp;While Ruth was focused on being a mom, she also loved to cook and could most often be found in the school cafeteria serving lunch at wherever Harold's teaching opportunities took them. &nbsp;In addition to the school cafeteria, she also cooked in various other establishments. &nbsp;In 2000, Ruth fought a battle with breast cancer and was proud of being a survivor. &nbsp;In 2010, they moved to Yankton where she got to be a full-time grandma, which was by far her favorite thing to do. &nbsp;She passed her love of cooking on to her grandkids at every opportunity. &nbsp; There were always “grandma cookies” and pie in her freezer when you stopped by for a visit. Ruth also loved quilting and watching the birds in the backyard. &nbsp;She especially enjoyed working outside in her vegetable garden which often resulted in jars and jars of pickles that were always ready to be shared. &nbsp; In addition to the vegetables, there was never a shortage of flowers both inside and outside of her house. &nbsp;Later in life, Ruth developed a love of sports and could usually be found watching sports on TV. &nbsp;She was especially fond of cheering on the Yankton Bucks or Gazelles. &nbsp; She treasured the time spent with her family and will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

Ruth is survived by her five children: Kathy (Dennis) McConnell of North Platte, NE, Jeffrey (Deb) Foote of North Platte, Krista (Rod) Neugebauer of Ethan, SD, Jennifer (Scott) Magnussen of Pierce, NE and Jason (Jessie) Foote of Yankton; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren: Ireland, Tucker, and Jack Bryan, Sutton Foote, and Saige Martinez-Magnussen; five sisters: Helen Oldenkamp of Omaha, NE, Freda Peters of Pierre, SD, Phyllis (Lloyd) Filler of Winner, SD, Lois Quatier of Yankton and Grace (Gary) Schmitgen of Pierre; one brother, Bill Eckert of Okaton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Foote; grandson, Joseph Flanagan; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Oldenkamp, Olin Peters, and Roy Quatier; and sister-in-law, Donna Eckert.

Kendra Broderick, 15, formerly of Chappell passed away Friday afternoon, March 29, 2024 in Aurora, Colorado.

May 28th, 2008 Kendra graced this world, and this world was forever changed. &nbsp;At 10:54pm Travis and Allie became her parents, and she began changing the world one person at a time. All 7 pounds 11 ounces of her started her fight that day, and that was followed with a fixed wing ride to the NICU at Presbyterian Saint Lukes hospital in Denver where she had many visitors that included many snuggles from Grandma Cindy and where she proved everyone wrong and broke out 18 days later. This is where we believe her love for fast movement of all kinds came from. &nbsp; From riding with her dad and papa on the lawn mower to the razor to the car and dad’s pickup she always wanted to go fast and if she could have road a rollercoaster she would have never gotten off so she settled with papa mike pushing her in her pony walker. &nbsp;Over the years Kendra had 3 helicopter rides and countless ambulance rides. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;It took 18 months to finally get the diagnosis of cerebral palsy. &nbsp;However, Kendra never let this diagnosis define her and she surpassed all odds of that diagnosis. &nbsp;

From Kendra Jane, to munchkin, to pumpkin, to sister, she had a different name to everyone who loved her. &nbsp;She was stubborn from day one and chose to miss her papa Rocky’s birthday by one day so she could have her own day. &nbsp;She conquered every obstacle that came her way and if she heard someone say it wasn’t possible she made sure to show them it was possible. &nbsp; She had that Timm attitude that proved to be the strength she needed. Her entire family always supporting every step of the way. &nbsp;She never lacked love. Her momma gave her every chance and made sure she was always dressed to a T, nails painted, earrings to match the outfit of the day, and hair always on point. Her dad made sure she always had the fast movements at home and got to play all the fun games. &nbsp;

Halloween became a staple in town for her. &nbsp; &nbsp;Between her papa Rocky and dad and the engineering aspect of these costumes and nana Ruby and mom being the brains, artists, and seamstress she was always looked for to have the most amazing costumes around her wheelchair. The entire town was always supportive, including when she was given the opportunity to travel to Dusseldorf, Germany for stem cell transplant. The town and many surrounding towns came together for “Kendra’s Journey” to give her this opportunity which changed her life forever. &nbsp;

Kendra became a big sister in June 2015 to twins Kimber and Konrad and even though she was limited she found a way to be the best big sister including clotheslining them with her legs when they were running around and annoying her. That turned into later years where she would tell them to shut up with her Dynovax. She had the best eye roll and spoke with her eyes and those eyelashes for days. She had a way to make new people work to care for her and embarrass them. She had her dad’s sense of humor and thankfully her mom’s looks. &nbsp; &nbsp;Even when people said it wasn’t possible we always found a way to make it possible. &nbsp; If they told her mom no, she found a way past it. &nbsp;Kendra got her strength from her mom, and she taught everyone that encountered her what it was like to love someone. She had the best smile and her laugh was contagious. &nbsp; Her disability never held her back. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In Kendra’s 15 years of life she endured many years of therapy and doctors’ appointments, along with many hospital stays where she proved her strength to be the fighter we know her as. &nbsp;She overcame many obstacles in her life that most adults couldn’t endure. She fought up to her very last breath where she was surrounded by so many loved ones, at 4:20 pm March 29th, 2024, in which she passed peacefully and no longer in pain.&nbsp;

Kendra Broderick (2008-2024)

Joy Elaine Osborne, age 64, of North Platte, died March 29, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;She was born on April 17, 1959 in Valentine to Robert and Alice (Smith) Hill. &nbsp;Joy went to school in Crookston, NE and graduated from Valentine High School in 1977.&nbsp;

After graduation, Joy went to Mid Plains Community College in North Platte. &nbsp;On November 26, 1979, she married Dale Osborne. &nbsp;The couple made their home in Maxwell for 15 years before returning to North Platte. &nbsp;Joy worked at Hinky Dinky and Safeway for 20 years. &nbsp;She then went to work for Great Plains Health, where she worked in the accounting department for 19 years.

Joy will be remembered as an excellent wife, mother, and grandmother. &nbsp;She was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. &nbsp;Joy enjoyed going on long walks with her husband and friends. She also loved nature and being outside. She was always at her grandchildren’s soccer games no matter how cold it was. She was their biggest fan. &nbsp; She was a member of the Church of Christ on Willow, where she was a very faithful member.

Survivors include her husband Dale of North Platte; children, Jennifer Osborne, and Kyle (Christina) Osborne, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Jaden, Anika, Jordynn, Brekkan, Bria, Rowan, and Crew; brothers, Edward (Marilyn) Hill of Valentine, and Wesley (Shelly) Hill of Kilgore, NE; and numerous other family members and many friends. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Larry Hill; and a sister, Kathy. &nbsp;Memorials may be directed to the Church of Christ and Online condolences and the live stream of the services can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 4, 2024 at the Church of Christ on Willow Street with the Rev. Joy Elaine Osborne (1959-2024)

&nbsp; John Arthur Patterson was born in Gothenburg, NE, on March 10, 1939.&nbsp; He passed away in peace at the age of 85 on March 30, 2024.

John was raised on a farm by his loving parents Oren "Pat" and Gertrude Patterson.&nbsp; He graduated from Gothenburg High School where he met the love of his life, Edythe Mae Keiser, and as he used to say, "The best-looking girl in Lincoln County!"

John attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and joined the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, then enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country from 1957 to 1960. John and Edy intended to get married a few days before Christmas in December 1958; however, the Army had different ideas and they eventually were able to wed on December 28, 1958.&nbsp; The poinsettias had wilted but their love endured for 65 years.

John and Edy settled in North Platte where they both worked and gained many lifelong friends.&nbsp; John spent most of his career at Blue Cross BlueShield where he covered the western part of the state serving physicians and hospitals as a provider relations consultant for 37 years.&nbsp; After retirement he joined the First National Bank and excelled at marketing, especially the hospitality part.&nbsp; John and Edy proudly owned ProPrinting for 20 years, bringing the business from bankruptcy to success through innovation and a lot of hard work.

Both John and Edy were very active community members.&nbsp; Most recently, he served on the Great Plains Health Board of Directors and was chairman of the Planning and Strategy Committee.&nbsp; He was proud of the progress and growth of the hospital group during his tenure.&nbsp; In addition, he served as President of many organizations, including the Mid Nebraska Community Foundation, North Platte City Council (where he served for three terms),area Red Cross, North Platte Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Rotary and United Way.&nbsp; John also served on the Boards of the North Platte Rodeo Committee, DEVCO and was a TeamMates mentor.&nbsp; He coached Little League and girls softball for many years and was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed Boys Lunch at the Platte, playing poker with the same group for 50 years, his lovely backyard, and driving his truck, Patsy.

John was a Christian, farmer, proud American, soldier, community member, comedian, entrepreneur, friend, sports fan and a lover of all animals and nature.&nbsp; Most of all John was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Gertrude. John is survived by his wife, Edy; children, Jacque Grabouski (Jim), Joi Lecznar (Al), and John Patterson II (Karin); and his nephew, Max Davis(Jenn).&nbsp; He was Bopo to his six grandchildren: Jeremy Grabouski(Christina), Jenna Matthey (Neil), Jessica Waterbury (Tom), Alynn Uglum(Adam), Ty Patterson, and Will Patterson; as well as 10 great-grandchildren so far.

John and Edy were proud of the long life and family they built. As he used to say about his life and marriage to Edy, "Not bad for two farm kids."

Celebration of John's life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 4, at First United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Visitation is Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with family greeting from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; The casket will be closed and family will have a private burial in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. John Patterson (1939-2024)

Robert “Bob” Lynn McMurtry, 71, life-long resident of North Platte, NE passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital.

Bob was born on August 31, 1952 in North Platte, NE the son of Francis Raymond and Rozella Mae (Haynes) McMurtry. &nbsp;

Bob graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic high school. &nbsp;Following school Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1972 to 1975. &nbsp;He worked for over thirty years for the Union Pacific Railroad as a safety engineer and retired in 2014. &nbsp;Bob was married to Alice Merideth on June 22, 2011. &nbsp;He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. &nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Alice; son, Adam McMurtry (Melissa) of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren, Paige and Hannah; brothers, Tom McMurtry (Carol) of North Platte, and Bernie McMurtry (Christy) of Cheyenne, WY; sister, Alice Keck (Keven) of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. &nbsp;The family requests that casual golf or NE cornhusker apparel be worn for the service. &nbsp;Burial will follow with military honors at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, near Maxwell, NE. &nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Rusty William Foster, 29 of North Platte, NE died March 26, 2024 near Caraway, AR as a result of a motor vehicle accident.&nbsp;

He was born on April 25, 1994 in Valentine, NE to William E. and Rosemary (Ramon) Foster.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rusty attended Gering Public Schools and later graduated from North Platte High School in 2012.&nbsp;&nbsp;He began working at the Walmart Distribution Center in North Platte and continued until 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also worked at Fat Dogs Convenience stores before moving to Turrell, AR with special friend and her daughter in February.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rusty married Delta (Elsasser) Morrow on February 27, 2015.

Rusty was a social butterfly and influenced many people throughout his life. Rusty enjoyed fishing with his uncles, spending time with his children, cars, computer gaming, cooking, and his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Delta Foster of North Platte, children, Sylas Forbes-Foster, Mathis Foster, and Everitt Foster, all of North Platte; parents, William (Angie) Foster of Osceola, NE and Rosemary (Shane) Burney of Arizona; bonus dads, John Moreno of California and Juan Martinez of Gering, NE; siblings, Dominic (Jenifer) Foster of Pierre, SD, April Foster (Preston Miller) , Lisa Moreno, Joslyn Moreno and bonus step brothers, all of Scottsbluff, NE, Joshua Peterson of Kearney, NE and Bailey Foster (Taylor Paugh) of Lincoln, NE; grandparents, Elida (Edward) Estrada of Texas and Larry (Barb) Meyer of Riverdale, NE; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl “Bud” W. and Nancy (Orris) Foster; and cousin, Vincent Sanchez III.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rusty William Foster (1994-2024)

On March 28, 2024, Joan Ann Johnson, passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska with the love of her daughters and husband surrounding her. &nbsp;She was born the only daughter of four children to Floyd and Georgia (Smith) Facka on March 25, 1941, in North Platte.

Growing up, Joan attended Hershey Public Schools and graduated in 1958 from Hershey. &nbsp;She then went on to cosmetology school where she received a license as a beautician. &nbsp;In May of 1959, Joan married Donald Johnson at the Lutheran Church in Hershey and the couple was blessed with three daughters, Kristie, Debbie, and Tammie. &nbsp;Joan worked for several beauty shops in the area before opening up her own space, “Joan’s Beauty Shop”, in an expansion that the couple had added onto their house. &nbsp;They were lifelong members of the Hershey Methodist Church until moving to North Platte in 2023, where they then became members of the North Platte Methodist Church. &nbsp;

Joan was known for a lot of things but it was her cooking that really stood out. &nbsp;She was a master in the kitchen, canning Sauer kraut, baking homemade bread, the best cinnamon rolls, and making chicken and noodles, quite literally from scratch. &nbsp;Joan always made sure her family, as well as, anyone who was hungry, had a home cooked meal to fill their stomachs. &nbsp;She was a selfless woman who opened her home up, enjoyed family gatherings and loved to laugh. &nbsp;She was an excellent caretaker of her husband, siblings, and children, often sewing clothing for her daughters in their childhood years. &nbsp;Attending shows at the Community Playhouse with her grandson, Mark, was a favorite hobby. &nbsp;She could always be heard singing along from the audience. &nbsp;Growing up with all brothers, Joan could be stubborn at times, but was always full of love.

Those that survive Joan include her husband, Don Johnson of North Platte, NE; daughters, Kristie (Tom) Taylor of Minden, NE, Debbie (Marty) Anderson of Fort Collins, CO, and Tammie (Billie) Reed of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Sarah Taylor (Steven), Lauren (Corbin) Michal, Chuck (Sandy) Anderson, Craig (Sarah) Anderson, Christina (Garrett) Havig, Joe Anderson, Rachel Anderson (Dom), Mark Reed, Brad (Megan) Reed; several great grandchildren; brother, Doug (Linda) Facka; brother in law, Gene Johnson; sister in law Peggy Chaney; several nieces, nephews, and other family.
